In the course of a musician‘s artistic existence compositions arise and cannot be integrated into a single-theme album, be it on the basis of their independence relative to theme and inspiration, or simply due to their unique meanings. Such songs remain as a lonely presence in the conscious of the respective musician. But if their number becomes too great they inevitably clog the creative process like a spiritual void crying for expression. To free this energy-robbing force by reaching a near- catharsis form, an expression is needed and this time came together in the form of the CD you are holding. The recording of this release took place over a long period; beginning in the Czech Republic, the bulk was carried through in an extremely cold former BND Bunker in Nuremberg and finished on 30. December 2000. The Nargaroth album presented here is not a concept album in the manner of „Orke" or „Herbstleyd". But considering the points mentioned above, the songs are of one complete element in the sense that they are all based upon varied dimensions and consequent of extremes in diversity. This CD contains 12 songs independent of one another, be it through differences in style, sound, conception or substance. Their creation was motivated upon the most differing foundations: Political, historical (The Day as Burzum ... ), through far-reaching emotions of light ( Seven Tears ...) and deprivation ( Erik, may you rape the...), pure Black Metal ( BM ist Krieg & Possessed by Black Fuckin‘ Metal...) as well as testimonies or tributes (cover songs...), etc.. Because of their dissimilarity to the Nargaroth style, I could have developed these songs for use in a side-project. But I loathe this kind of behavior. What arises from my will is consequently bound to my persona and identity. To me, Nargaroth is not a band but rather a zenith of existence. I cannot just set it down and don a new ‚skin‘. There will also be future expressions of my persona that could not be more different and outlandish. On the whole I am, for I am in Nargaroth as Nargaroth is in me. No compromise... KvN

This hateful song I dedicate to the time between 1990 and 1994. I suppose that I must not recollect on this time and the Black Metal history connected to it. Black Metal is WAR, and this in every conceivable form! In time voices called for so-called guidance or goals one should follow together in unity. But so long that everyone shits on everyone else in Black Metal, people benefit at the cost of others or friends, as long as envy buries mutual acquaintances because one is a bit more famous than the other group of pigs, and as long as lies constantly shadow the scene, I shit on it! So is the basis of my support for the war of everyone against everyone, band against band, because any sort of goals cannot be reached as long as this dishonesty and discord prevail inside the "legion"... As this unity will never be achieved, an changed constellation in Black Metal is fantasy. This song grew from a very intense time in my life which will never come back with the same power and structure.

Seven tears are flowing to the river... This love poem I transpire in form and pair with the violent intensity of a Black Metal song, which in relation to an expression of emotion stresses the crown certainly the same in itself, to my soul which was too long under the torture of deprivation…and six of´ em are mine…

Far beyond the stars ( Cover of AZHUBHAM HAANI; written by ANGRAMAIN `YO , released 1992)

This cover song is in honor and to the memory of Azhubham Haani, which according to my artistic judgment has protected the throne of musical madness for eight years. In conjunction are of course the previous band and the side project of Angramain ´Yo, all of which relating to the closer description of the already-mentioned throne. As part of the text was indecipherable in its recorded form and the guitar riffs partially inaudible, I was forced to interpret and build the music in my own way to carry out the recording. Similar to the exhaustion of a long distance runner who needs a break from time to time, it's impossible to let these works run together inside me without break. Instead I must stop the course of the music and use a moment of initiated silence as recovery to avoid allowing emotional exhaustion become too great. So I hesitate with every moment of peace with the notion that the next step to music will throw me born again into the whirl of madness harboring inside...

I burn for you (Cover of LORD FOUL; released 1994)

In 1994 I didn't believe in a glorious future for black metal but then received a demo in which this covered song "I burn for you" could be found. One can suppose that Lord Foul, like Azhubham Haani, should not be known to current infiltrators in the scene. Even if I cannot reach the original rough, incomparable sound in all its expressed elements, a memorial and sign of gratitude is erected here as a representation for the sort of enduring strength I miss in all bands existing afterwards. And yet or exactly because of this I am unworthy and lower my head in its presence... I die for your amusement!!!

The day Burzum killed Mayhem (Music / Lyric von Kanwulf 1993 -´99; Language of birth and Language of recitation: English)

The dedication of this song is unambiguous. With it, I recall a kind of change, a kind of diffusion in the Black Metal of that time back then. When I heard of the actual deed some days later, I was in a kind of trance; on the one hand, I had now another evidence that BM was more than just a mode of entertainment, to which it degraded more and more in the course of the following years. On the other hand, for me the future of all persons involved and of all that was unclear. I have grown with BURZUM for example, and it was, so to say, an entity accompanying my adolescence. And in this fragile world of a mid-teenager, such a grave event happened. I think I can already see the lack of understanding in the eyes of some readers, but they shall be aware that this emotional state of suspense of those times can only be grasped in its full momentousness by a member of the scene who has also lived through it. What I actually want to say is that having lived through and witnessed these events in those times is formative and essential for an understanding in the broadest sense as well as for an evaluation of those circumstances. Newcomers today only have to read on something spilled on paper by some biased hack writer, so that one ought to be careful when choosing one’s sources, given that even the testimonies of those involved are more than contradictory already. Thus, they form an opinion of something they can only explore from a historic distance. The aspect of experience is missing. And that, as I said, is an important factor when one wants to assess its relevance. What one may think about the successive division, the rumors and all the commercialization is left to anybody’s own judgment. So, I do not know until the present day whether all this, besides having been an important evidence for me that BM was more than just music, has been of benefit regarding the future of BM, or whether it was not much rather a part of the beginning of the end…1993, a year of misery?

1993, a year of misery. Darkness fills the sky, I hear the warriors cry.

Pìsen prò Satanas (Cover of ROOT; written by The Boss, released 1990, recited in the Czech language)

It's time to eat your souls... This acknowledgement goes to the Czech band ROOT, regardless of the totally indiscussible sexual affinity of the front man, a facet consequently reported to me only after the recording of this cover. This song has, in my opinion, a substantial potential and I think everyone knows now where Varg Vikernes got the musical inspiration for his song "War". And all skeptics can shut their mouths, because he has confirmed this in one of his first interviews...Oh, Satani....

Erik, may you rape the angels (Music / Lyrics by Kanwulf 1999 – 2000; Language of birth and chosen language of recitation: English)

Erik, may you rape the angels...! This song is a monument to the memory of ERIK, his mark as the drummer of Immortal and Gorgoroth, who forever left this world in October 1999. The intentions for that are possibly questionable, so I must say that Grim, his pseudonym, for me represented one of the most sympathetic existences in the history of Black Metal of the second generation. The knowledge of his passing gave me a miserable feeling like no other and accordingly came into the context of the death of my only friend ever. At the end of the song can be heard the line "This is Demonaz, that Abbath and this is me. I play drums". This is the voice of Erik from June 4, 1994 at a concert in "German House" in Lößnitz. I hold this outro as just and mounting. As GORGOROTH is no stylistic challenge for me, I decided to embrace the musical singularity of IMMORTAL as a musical frame for the growth of my song. Regardless, this piece doesn't represent a copy of Immortal, as perhaps some rampant, cloven voices will claim. This song came out of stylistic parallels and from the sadness over the loss of one of the most valuable people to me. And all of us, friend and enemy, know that such a person isn't to be forgotten. Because regardless of at which battle's wake, weather in the depths of the soul, in the clear moon's lonely hours of night or in the circles of the suffering, the people mourn their dead… Erik, may you be your own tragedy!

Amarok – Zorn des Lammes III (Amarok – Wrath of the Lamb III) ( Music 1996 / Lyrics 1998 by Kanwulf; Language of birth: German, chosen language of recitation: English)

This third section of an all-together four-part unity represents an specialty which differs from the subject-matter that externalizes itself in a dedication and thematically softer subject-matter than the last two parts. The actual drive which brought me to this audacious dedication (regardless of the boycott of earlier albums), will be explained explicitly in

the following statement. It shall also be mentioned here that although one could assume such, no woman was involved in the accompanying vocal parts!! The German nation seems to suffer under a kind of trauma in regard to a part of our history and national identity. Signs of this are, for example, the sale of T-Shirts with the words "I could give a shit about being German". I don't know of any other country where this sort of slander runs rampant and is also exploited commercially. I despise this sort of slander in the deepest way. I am glad to live in a country which has a sort of standard of living from which we can all benefit and which we should all appreciate. The climax of all came in the publication of a T-Shirt on which a partly decayed corpse is printed with the words, "I was proud to be German". Many are not really offended by this; some just see a gaffe in relation to a publicly displayed corpse. But also when one can interpret it other ways, I see the shaming of an exploited, denied and all-to-gladly forgotten German generation. I am talking about the German soldiers of the World Wars. When we find guilt in everything through the smallest differences, we should also do

the same in reverse situations! I especially dedicate this song to the fallen sons and daughters of my family that in the First World War lost their lives, burned in a tank at 17 years old in Russia, killed in Belgium or, in regards to female deaths, a suicide after repeated rape. In addition I dedicate this song to all soldiers and women who share the same burden, or stand the burden of survival and whose name is now outcast. And like how they died I leave this song, unmixed without unflourished and raw...I am what I am, I’m just a man!

This song is a mark of my respect for the only German Black Metal band next to ABSURD that is worth mention! I can imagine that the two spirits of MOONBLOOD will raise their eyebrows at such a statement (at least Occulta Mors sits here with me and shudders at the thought), but this is my opinion on the matter. And now because there is very little in the world of German Black Metal that one can praise, one reflects upon the long ignored and overseen, so consequently its now sort of a trend to listen to MOONBLOOD. So the numbers pile up of supposed trusted ones or year-long friends and former gothic-sluts, who are not even worth raping before murdering, wear MOONBLOOD T-Shirts and answer the question, if they know the band they degrade through their miserable existence by wearing this shirt, they answer, "They are good, right?". Arrrrgggghhhh...!!! And so another worthy gem is destroyed through hype. Shit!

Possessed by Black fucking Metal

(Music / Lyrics by Kanwulf 1994; Language of birth and recitation: English) This song is dedicated with all passion and power of soul to the cult BLACK METAL. Raw, full of emotional facets and something from all conscience which touch deep inside me. However I believe the BM is dead, aside from this face there will always be something that is labeled as BM and even if it actually has nothing more to do with it anymore. It has been degraded to a domesticated form of music of which I have no more interest in. Because of this the dedication, as a farewell to one of the most grandiose memories and a medium of expression in metal from which rose those demons which Nargaroth has summoned.

Once upon a time as Black Metal ruled, the blood was hot, the hearts was strong

the future seemed to be ours...

But nothing more remained, because Black Metal died.

Gone days of pure underground, of Spirit, Pain and Fire.

So listen to your heart,

what Black Metal means to you. If you’re weak destroy yourself,

if you’re from old days remember his corpse.

I’m possessed by Black fucking Metal !

Within the scope of this album’s functions, i.e. to cope and to come to terms with some aspects regarding my person and its interaction with some facets of Black Metal, it seems indispensable to me to comment on some things and recur on some topics, which have been adulterated by either the ignorant or by split tongues. During the transcription of these contents, however, I quickly realized that the bulk of things to be fixed in writing were to exceed by far the capacity of a booklet and thus devalue its use as a satisfying but limited source of information.

Therefore, I decided to compose a hardback supplementary writing in the course of the publication of the here present NARGAROTH album “Black Metal ist Krieg – A Dedication Monument”, which seems indispensable for an understanding of the single songs, and which will shortly follow the album. This writing will contain a transliteration of my thoughts, which the lack of space in this booklet prevents me to write here. I also believe that I thus further approach my goal of separating those who only follow the musical excesses from those for whom the spirit and the soul behind the respective works mean as much as the musical expression of these thoughts – in order to find those NARGAROTH – possessed I have seen in the most diverse regions of this land, so that they shall be able to nourish on the energy I am able to give as well as on the force of the demons in my mind. (It has never come to a publication of this supplementary writing because I have simply been too lazy to write it)

For some, Black Metal is amusement. For some, an era in their lives. For some, however, only just a

pastime! For me, it is hatred, it is force! For me, Black Metal is blood!
