QSAC Showdown NCS (Eastern District Race #1)

March 14 & 15, 2008 Carolina RC Complex, Easley, SC

Carolina RC Complex is a beautiful complex. The track has a run line of approximately 369 feet. The complex is not only home to a beautiful asphalt oval it also houses a dirt oval and road course! The first QSAC NCS Showdown of the season was March 14th & 15th (And 16th in this case). Everyone was excited and happy to finally be in race mode again! The weather, however, wasn’t quite as happy. Because of the rain we could not race on Saturday. The second and final rounds of qualifying and the mains had to be run on Sunday. Unfortunately, not all of the racers could stay the extra day (Sunday) and left without competing in the second round of heats and mains. A lot of fast cars /good drivers were missing. Race Day (Sunday rain make up day): Grand National: Due to the fact that one of our Grand National drivers (Chance) had to catch a flight back to the West Coast, we ran the GN class first. These guys are the best of the best in ¼ scale racing! In the A-main the battle for the lead exchanged hands several times throughout the 300 lap main event, but when the checkered flag waived it was Donnie Burnett in front. Donnie was quick clicking off the fastest lap in the process 6.366! These guys are FAST! Sprint: Our Sprint guys were next in the lineup. These guys are some of the best drivers around. Wheel to wheel at full speed the entire main event keeps everybody on the edge of their seats! Bob Elliot edged out Randy Baker for the win with fast Larry Hopson rounding out the top three. Good show guys! Super Trucks: Super Trucks hit the track next. There were some really fast trucks in this class and the racing in the finale was close the entire time. Jim Bell led most of the race but settled for second behind winner Jeff Davis who drove a smart race and now leads in NCS points. 3rd place finisher Allen Johnson had a strong running truck as well. Jeff Davis turned a 6.694 lap, which was the fastest lap in the “A”.

Sportsman: The Sportsman Class was the final race of the day. This race was very-very close (to close at times) with side by side action the entire race. The lead changed hands almost every lap. In the end it was first time NCS winner Chuck Lambert grabbing the win! Local driver Robby Vaughn had the fastest lap of the race with a 6.664. There is a lot of talent in this class. That concluded our race weekend. Thanks to Donnie Burnett for the excellent facility; and to David Aljoe for being a great announcer. Last but not least a special thanks to Darlene Aljoe for the countless ways she helped make the weekend go smooth!

QSAC N.C.S. Western District Race By Kenny Roller

Thursday April 3rd Drivers have been showing up all week and the weather has been great. It’s a little cold at night but the daytime temps have been good. Drivers are working hard to get the set ups for the track and as the new drivers to the track are finding out, it can be a little tricky. Friday April 4th It is go time for the drivers and the day is starting out cold with a little over cast but other wise ok. Most drivers are dealing with tight cars, as am I and I hope that I can get the set up a little better before qualifying and heats today. The wind is starting to pick up and I am watching to the south very intently to see if a storm is coming. Sure enough it is and we are giving warning to all the drivers to put away the canopies and other loose items. Last thing we want is a repeat of the 05 District Race. 12:30PM and the wind is blowing at about 20 to 30 MPH. It is time to qualify. With the dirt flying and the wind blowing all the drivers are having trouble with the loose conditions. Sprints have elected to cancel their heat race due to the high winds. The Sportsman and GN will go ahead. Fast Qualifiers were Sprint # 8 Dino Mowreader, Sportsman # 18 Dennis Andrews, and GN # 93 Denny Andrews During the Sprint Qualifying, Dennis Andrews had a radio glitch and hit the wall hard sending his wing flying in air about 20 ft high and 100 ft away. Thank goodness for soft walls, the driver walked away and will be in tomorrows race, but the car will not. Heat races started with the sportsman heat 1A group and was won by # 18 Dennis Andrews. Sportsman heat 1B was won by # Mike Kenley. GN heat 1A was won by # 1 Brent May and heat 1B by # 18 Scott Schramske. Saturday April 5th It looks to be a nice day today and we could see some warmer temperatures at the track. We are starting today with the sprint heat 1A with # 20 Dennis Andrews taking the win and # 20 Dennis Andrews winning Sprint 1B. Sportsman heat 2A was won by # 18 Dennis Andrews and 2B by # 23 Shaun Biglin. GN heat 2A was won by # 93 Denny Andrews and heat 2B was won by # 18 Scott Schramske. Main Events Sprint A Main was won by # 20 Dennis Andrews Sportsman B Main was won by # 16 Steve Pfister Sportsman A Main was won by # 18 Dennis Andrews Grand National A Main was won by # 62 Chance Overholt I wish that I had more time to write more but I am sure you all under stand. To many irons in the fire. This was a great event and although the weather wasn’t the best, the drivers had a great time and I really enjoyed meeting new people at the track. I had a great time talking to Bill and Dave Scott, partying with Denny and Dennis Andrews, and racing with all the different drivers. We have a great track to race on and we hope that more of you will come up and see how fast this track is and what a challenge it is to run. Have you ever wanted to have a QSAC rule or gray area clarified?

Well, here is a very simple form, for you to fill out and mail to the QSAC official in charge of establishing the rules for the year 2009. If you have a suggestion, a change or a problem with the 2008 rules, please write them down on this page now, before you forget. No matter how small your idea may be, please submit it. With your help in this area, we as a club can make 2009 the best Quarter-Scale season ever. QSAC is a club composed of members and a club’s success depends upon its membership’s participation. Note #1: A mechanics license MUST be obtained through a “Licensed To Race” QSAC member. This license will only permit the holder in the “Hot Pit” area, it will not insure him/her to drive a car. The currently licensed QSAC member sponsoring a Mechanic, MUST list their QSAC number below. QSAC Member number sponsoring this Mechanics License____________ Note #2: The “One Day Driver’s License” provides Driver’s Insurance for one person for one day or one event and can only be used once per year. You will not be eligible for QSAC Partners Benefits. The $30.00 fee can later be applied toward the purchase of a “Full Membership” for the same year. If a driver wishes to enter a second event after they have used the “One Day” license, he or she must then pay an additional $30.00 or $10.00 depending upon which newsletter choice is made. This will provide them with a “Full Membership” thru the end of the year with all membership benefits included. It is the driver’s responsibility to provide proof of the original “One Day” membership. Note #3: The membership period runs from October 31st thru December 31st of the following year. Note #4: Membership applications received after August 1st will be valid thru December 31st of the same year. The membership fee will be reduced 25%. This policy applies to the “Full Membership” classification only. Please note that the QSAC insurance is based on a fixed cost per member NOT per time period. Note #5: Membership fees may vary each year. Note #6: “Full Memberships” received by March 31st, 2008 will be eligible for the QSAC Partners drawing which is being held on September 12th, 2008 at the QSAC Showdown N.C.S.
