Our Affiliates are great in 2008! I am so pleased to partner with such outstanding Affiliate members. You all do so much to support our Association and REALTORS®. I have watched many of you for numerous years donate your time and money

to our Association and I want you all to know how deeply we appreciate it.

This year during rough economic times you have, like most of our members, doubled your working hours but still seem to find the time to volunteer at so many of our Association events, as well as sponsoring them. Thank you so much for your continued support and for embracing REALTORS® as always.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you by name, but at the risk of missing someone, I want you to know that we know without your involvement and

participation in our Association, we would not be as strong as you have made us. On behalf of the Board of Directors and all of our REALTOR® members---THANK YOU!

The maximum number of people per tournament date that can play is 48 per tournament date. Anyone over 18 years of age can play in the tournament and the entry fee is $60 per tournament date. There will be 6 winners each night that are guaranteed a seat in the finals’ competition on September 6th.

There will be beer, wine and finger foods.

The value of our Affiliates cannot be underestimated! Affiliates provide outstanding support to the Association by volunteering their time and sponsoring education classes and special events throughout the year.

There are many sponsorship opportunities available for Affiliate members. Some of these are:

• New Member Welcome Class – This class is held usually the first Wednesday morning of the month. Sponsorship opportunities are available for breakfast. This class typically has no more than 30 students enrolled each month. Sponsors have the choice of bringing their own food and beverages or having the Association purchase the food and get invoiced. Please note that Sponsors are always welcomed to pass out their company literature and are allowed to give a short 5-10 minute dialog about their company when sponsoring a class.

• Continuing Education Classes - These classes are held most Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the Association Classroom (sometimes off-site). Sponsorship opportunities are available for breakfast and snacks for afternoon classes. These classes typically have no more than 72 registrants; however, you may contact the Association the day before any class to get an accurate count. Sponsors have the choice of bringing their own food and beverages or having the Association purchase the food and get invoiced. Sponsorship opportunities are available for Designation classes as well. These classes are larger and are usually more than one day. Contact the Association for more information on these classes.

• New Flat Screen Technology in the Classroom – Our new flat screen television has replaced the need to use a projector and you can get a bigger and better view of presentations, education classes, etc. If you choose a sponsorship level, you can have your logo flash on the screen in a continuous motion.

• Green Publication with Enhanced Affiliate Links – All members can now opt to receive

the magazine in email form or view it on our website as an interactive document. On the web, you will be able to flip the pages and click through any web address. It will also be a great way to advertise! Your advertisements are now going to be live links to your websites, so make sure your website addresses are on all ads.

• Affiliate Sponsorship Levels - Presently, there are 6 different levels of corporate Sponsorship that go up in offerings depending upon the level you choose. Please call the Association for more information or visit our website: www.osceolarealtors.org and place your cursor on the Affiliate button on the left side of the homepage and click on “Affiliate Sponsorship Opportunities”. ■

Are you current on the tax implications of buying and selling residential property? These are just a few of the topics that are covered in GRI 3. The GRI designation – Graduate, REALTOR® Institute – is the nation’s #1 real estate designation. It is earned through state associations whose REALTOR® Institute courses of study meet the standards established by the National Association of REALTORS®. The designation is available only to members of NAR.

RAJIA ACKLEY – Broker, Coldwell Banker Ackley Realty Honored as “Women Who Mean Business” Finalist.

Rajia recently received recognition from the Orlando Business Journal as one of the area’s top female business owners. Nearly 100 women from Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties were nominated for the annual tribute, with judges selecting five finalists in three areas: Business Owner of the Year, Business Executive of the Year and Up-and-Comer of the Year.

Rajia, started her real estate company in 1984 and built it into one of Osceola County’s largest full-service companies with sales in excess of $100 million. The Association is proud to call Rajia a member!

A WORD FROM YOUR AFFILIATE CHAIR…

When I look back over the last four years at the real estate

landscape in Central Florida, it amazes me at what I see. This August 13 marks the four year anniver-sary of hurricane Charlie, followed shortly by Fran-ces and Jeanne. What a year 2004 was. Many of us were scrambling around after Charlie trying to figure out how to get our businesses up and running. We pulled together, helped each other, prayed for each other and we got through it stronger than before.

Not too long after that one of the biggest challenges we faced was getting an appraisal high enough to cover the highest bidder on the newest listing which had only been on the market for a matter of hours. Appraisers sure do have a tough job! We came up with “market adjustments” to justify the unusual ap-preciation of real estate. It didn’t matter if it was an empty lot in a remote part of Osceola County or a condominium in downtown Celebration. What a

time that was and we all said it couldn’t last and we were right. Everybody and his brother, aunt and un-cle decided to get a real estate license. Most of them did not know what they were doing but we helped them along as best we could.

Transition to the present and we go from “market ad-justments” in 2005 to phrases like “soft market” and “declining market”. We had to come up with some way to justify lower values and lower lending limits. What happened to all those new REALTORS®? Mem-bership in the Association is declining. Offices are closing and people are losing their jobs. We are all working harder than ever and getting paid less. Talk about a market correction. Who would have thunk it?

I have noticed that there is a spirit of empathy among us. Perhaps a reflection on the past will help us to focus more sharply on the present and future. Now more than ever we need to pull together, help each other, pray for each other, and I’m convinced we will come through this stronger than before!

Affiliate sponsorship is vital to the Ed-ucation Department’s role at the Asso-ciation. Many of you may or may not know that the food that is on the table

in the room when you come for class is provided by our Affiliate members. This is true for most of the meetings and classes held at the Association, includ-ing the MLS Marketing, Network & Knowledge meet-ings held on Tuesday mornings.

In the past I have had the pleasure of working with most of the Affiliate members in conjunction with many classes and functions. They appreciate the importance of education, especially in today’s mar-ket. The Affiliate members have not only sponsored breakfast and snacks for the continuing education classes, but designation classes as well.

As sponsors, the Affiliate members have the oppor-tunity to not only sponsor breakfasts but to speak to the class for approximately 5-7 minutes before the

beginning of class regarding their services and how they can assist you.

Many of you have heard me say over and over that networking is a vital part of real estate. Just knowing someone’s name just isn’t enough. So it is nice hav-ing the Affiliate members come to the Association and introduce themselves to members.
