2009 Annual Report

2009 OASC Conferences & Training Events May 22, 2009 Early Intervention- OACB Spring Conference- Through collaborative funding with OACB and DODD, we were able to bring nationally known speakers in the field of Evidenced Based Early Intervention, M’lisa Rush and Dathan Shelden to a full day track. The evening prior we hosted a mini training to raise awareness with our state leaders. Director Martin, First Lady Francis Strickland, Robin Harris, Governor’s office, Karen Hughes with ODH, Alicia Leatherman, Early Childhood Cabinet, Angela Sausser-Short, FCFC and others representing CB’s were in attendance. July 13th &14th - OASC annual planning retreat. Jo Krippenstapel led attendees in identifying our ‘North Stars’ and identifying how the OASC organization can facilitate progress toward that journey. The summary is included later in this report.

October 8th- OASC committee for ages 3-21 sponsored a collaborative venture with OAAS on Youth Transition. Hamilton and Fairfield counties presented their programs and a State Support Team representative taught the new transition process and effective EIP goal writing. 70 people were in attendance.

OACB Winter Conference December 4th - A full day track is being organized to highlight “hot topics” which will cover current events for all age groups served by CB’s children’s departments.

OASC sponsored a grant writing committee to apply for the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council grant entitled, Early Intervention Transdisciplinary Methodology in Ohio with a federal award of $125,000 for two years. The grant’s purpose it to allow for every child and family served by Ohio’s Part C early intervention system to have access to evidence based early intervention services, using methodologies built upon the science of how young children naturally learn, and built upon trusting relationships between the caregivers and professionals. The project will assist Part C eligible children and

their families to access and receive quality services by teams trained in evidence based EI transdisciplinary methodology. The award is to be announced early November. If funded, 30 Early Intervention Teams from across Ohio will have the opportunity to be trained by national experts in the field. The training and ongoing technical assistance will take place over the two year period.
