What to PackThe weather in Sitka is relatively
mild compared to the rest of the
state of Alaska. As a matter of fact,
Sitka is warmed by a Japanese
current which makes this region a
wet, mid-latitude rain forest. In the
summer, temperatures can range
between 45-75 degrees. However,
the average summer temperature is
in the high 50s. We suggest packing
items that can easily be layered and
re-worn. Polar-fleece dries quickly
and is the fabric of choice among
most captains and crew.
Remember! Rain gear and boots
are included and we carry a
selection of gloves and clothing for
purchase.
Upon Your ArrivalAlaska Airlines provides jet service
from the lower 48 to Sitka. We
recommend arriving on flight #67
the day prior to your first fishing
date. This flight arrives before the
dinner hour and after check-in
times It is the preferred flight
among returning clients. When
your jet arrives, a representative of
Sitka Point Lodge and Charters will
be there to greet you holding an
identifying sign and flashing a smile.
Oftentimes the day of your arrival
is the last day of fishing for the prior
guests. Therefore, your first night
accommodations may be off sight
at one of Sitka’s finest hotels.Either way, the check-in time at
Sitka Point Lodge and the local
hotels is 3:00 pm. If you should
arrive before check-in time, your
luggage can be stored for you.
Because dinners are provided on
fishing days only, we suggest making
arrival night dinner reservations
ahead of time. This will be your
only chance to enjoy Sitka’srestaurants; we are certainly happy
to make recommendations and
accommodations in advance.
Transporting Your Fish
Your fish will be packaged and
ready to take with you on your
departing flight. To efficiently
comply with bag restrictions, we
suggest your carry-on contain allthe personal belongings you need
for your stay which allows your fish
box to be checked as baggage.
For each ticketed passenger, Alaska
Airlines allows one pieces of
luggage weighing up to 50 pounds.
A $25 fee is charged for each
additional bag. If you have more
than three extra bags, or if any
weigh more than 50 pounds,
additional fees will apply. (Please
note that other Airlines may operate
under different rules.) Passengers
may board with one carry-on thatfits in the above compartment and
one small carry on which fits
beneath the seat in front of you.
Please inspect your photo ID or
passport just incase the expiration
date lands on the dates of your trip.
More information can be found at
alaskaair.com.
Departure Day Check-out time is at 10:00 am.
Breakfast is served three hours prior
to your flight departure time. You
can expect to leave with your
luggage and fish boxes two hours
prior to your departure time. Our
staff will have all boxes labeled
accordingly, assist you in loading
your bags and walk you to the
check-in counter located at Sitka’s
Municipal Airport. Many clientsleave on flight #68 which is a daily,
southbound, direct flight which
leaves mid-morning.

Q: What is the average Gratuity Given to Captains and
Staff?
A: This is the most frequently asked question. Gratuity is
customary and 15% of the package price is routine. Our staff is
always appreciative when a gift of gratuity compliments them on
a job well done. Gratuity envelopes and further guidelines are
available in the office.
Q: What if I am prone to seasickness?
A: Captain Mike says, “Seasickness goes from thinking you are
going to die to wishing you would!” Thankfully, there are
preventative measures available. Drug stores in Sitka are wellsupplied with over-the-counter medicine. However; a better
option is to speak with your doctor ahead of time. They can
prescribe a seasick patch which is the most popular option.
Q: How far from town is Sitka Point Lodge?
A: The lode is located approximately 5 miles north of the heart
of downtown and 2 miles south of the ferry terminal. We are
only a 10 minute ride from the airport.
Q: Will I be able to e-mail and will my cell-phone have
service?
A: Most people are able to receive phone service with their
phones. ATT is the local wireless provider, but we recommend
checking with your service provider to be sure. Guests are free to
enjoy our wireless internet connection as well as the guest
computer. Photos may be downloaded to a disk under the
condition that your digital camera counts photos indefinitely and
not from zero with each batch. Double check your owners
manual before arrival. Sitka Point Lodge & Fishing Charters is
not liable if for any loss of digital data.
Q: What if I have special dietary needs or meal
requests?
A: No problem! Let us know in
advance and we will
accommodate you and yours. Hot
breakfasts are served at the lodge,
lunches on the boat; appetizers
and dinner upon your return each
evening. We promise, you will not
go hungry!
