“IbelieveCoachWilliamsisthemostqualifiedpersonwecouldhavehiredandIamexpectingbigcontributionsfromher,”commentedNgongba.“Itisalwaysaplustogetalocalbasketballproductwithheadcoachingexperience,particu-larlyatthecollegelevel.”
AtRadford,Williamswillorganizeandoverseeteamtravel,academics,commu-nityinvolvement,filmexchange,summercampsaswellasassistwithscheduling.
InjustthreeseasonsatAverettUniver-sity,Williamselevatedtheprogramtonewheights,includingaschool-record17-9overallmarkin2009-10,whichtoppedthepreviousschoolstandardsettheyearbefore.Inadditiontotheiroverallrecord,theCougarssetanewprogramrecordforconferencewinsineachofWilliams’threeyearsatthehelm.
AlongwithherheadcoachingdutiesatAverett,Williamsservedastheathleticdepartment’sSeniorWomen’sAdministrator.
“ShehadtomanageallaspectsoftheAverettprogram,whichiswhyIamconfidentshewillbeastrongadditiontoourstaff.”
BeforeacceptingherpositionatAverett,Williams,anativeofnearbyRoanoke,wasanassistantcoachatFerrumCollege.WhileonthePanthers’staff,shehelpedheadcoachBryanHarveyleadtheteamtoaschool-best21-7recordin2006-07.Additionally,sheplayedamajorroleintherecruitingprocessthatlanded11freshmenontheFerrumcampus,includingthe2007USASouthConferenceRookieoftheYear.
A2004graduateofRoanokeCollege,Williamsearnedabachelor’sde-greeinsociology.Shewasathree-yearstandoutontheMaroonsbasketballteamafterplayingoneseasonatVirginiaTech.Athree-timeOldDominionAthleticConferenceall-leagueselection,includingfirst-teamselectionsin2002and2003,WilliamswasnamedODACPlayeroftheYearin2003,whileearninghonorablementionAll-Americahonors.

Shumaker,aForest,Miss.native,comestoRadfordafterheadinguptheBiloxi(Miss.)HighSchoolstrengthandconditioningdepartmentforthepastyear.Duringhistime,hedesignedandimplementedprogramsfortheIndians’13boysandgirlssportsteams.
PriortohistimeinBiloxi,hewasagraduateassistantcoachathisalmamaterMississippiStatefrom2007
to2009.DuringhistimeinStarkville,Shumakerwastheheadcoachforthemen’sandwomen’strackandfieldsquads,whileassistingwiththeBulldogs’footballandbaseballteams.
InhisreturntoMississippiState,ShumakerearnedhisMaster’sofSci-enceinInstructionalTechnologyin2009.
A2005graduatewithadegreeinphysicaleducationandformermemberoftheBulldogbaseballandfootballteams(2000-01),Shumakerwasinchargeofthetrackandfieldprogram,whileassistingwithsoftball,baseballandfootball.HealsospenttimewithMississippiState’sTurfGrassManagementandGameOperationsdepartments.
Followinghisgraduationin2005,ShumakerspenttimeasanassistantbaseballcoachatUniversityofCentralOklahomaandservedasanas-sistantstrengthandconditioningcoachatJacksonState.
AtJacksonState,hewastheheadcoachfortheTigers’softballandmen’sbasketballprograms,whileassistingwithfootball,baseballandwomen’sbasketball.
CherylCoxisinherthirdyearastheAdministrativeAssistantforbothRadfordmen’sandwomen’sbasket-ball.
Alongwiththedailyoperationsoftheoffice,Coxassistswithpreparingteamtravelfromhotelstomealsandorganizesrecruitinginformation.
Priortojoiningthebasketballofficealmostthreeyearsago,shehandledbothTicketOperationsandMediaRe-lationsforanumberofMinorLeagueBaseballTeams.Thoseclubsinclude,theCarolinaMudcats,Tri-CityValley-CatsandtheMyrtleBeachPelicans.
In1998,CoxreceivedaB.A.inCommunicationsfromBluefieldCol-lege,whereshewasalsoamemberofthevolleyballandsoftballteams.

Sinceitsfoundingin1983,theBigSouthConferencehasmaturedintoacompetitiveleaderincollegeathletics,activelypursuingexcellenceonthefieldofplayandintheclassroom.TheLeague’sgrowingpresenceasanNCAADivisionIathleticconferenceisevidentbyathleticaccom-plishmentsonthenationalstage,innovativemarketingandmediapartner-ships,increasedtelevisionpackages,andqualityathleticcompetitionwhileintentionallyfosteringtheacademic,personal,social,athleticandleadershipdevelopmentofeachstudent-athlete.ThishasevolvedintotheConference’smissionof“DevelopingLeadersThroughAthletics.”
TheBigSouthConferencewasformedonAugust21,1983,whenCharlestonSouthern(thenBaptistCollege)AthleticDirectorHowardBagwellandAugustaPresidentGeorgeChristenberrybeganrecruitingmembersintotheBigSouth,receivinginitialcommitmentsfromAugusta,CharlestonSouthern,Campbell,CoastalCarolinaandWinthrop.Onemonthlater,Dr.EdwardM.SingletonwasselectedastheLeague’sfirstCommissionerandcontinuedtosolicitnewmembers.HiseffortsledtotheadditionsofArmstrongState,RadfordandUNCAsheville,givingtheBigSouthmorethantherequiredsixmemberstoconstituteanofficialconference.TheBigSouth’sfirstyearofcompetitionwasintheFallof1984,andinSeptember1986,theBigSouthConferencewasgrantedfull-fledgedNCAADivisionIstatus.
DuringitsinfancyandpriortosecuringautomaticbidstoNCAAChampionships,theBigSouthmadeearlystridesinearningat-largeberthsinseveralnationalpostseasonevents,includingvolleyball,women’sbasketballandwomen’sgolf.In1989,GeorgeF.“Buddy”SasserreplacedtheretiringDr.SingletonasCommissioner,andin1990,theLeaguereceiveditsfirstautomaticbid–receivinganautomaticqualifiertotheNCAABaseballChampionship.UnderSasser’ssevenyearsofleadership,theConferenceimplementeditspublicrelationsandcompli-anceprograms,andintroduceditsfirst-evermen’sbasketballtelevisionpackage,featuringtheBigSouthcompetingamongsomeofthefinestteamsinthenation.
InAugust1996,KyleB.KallanderreplacedSasserasthethirdCom-missioner,andinhis13yearsatthehelmoftheBigSouth,KallanderhasbeeninstrumentalinaggressivelypromotingtheConferencetonewlevels.TheConferencehasenjoyedrecordlevelsinmarketingrevenueduringthepastseveralyears,hehasbroughttelevisioncoveragetoBigSouthwomen’sbasketball,baseballandsoftballforthefirsttimeinConferencehistory,aswellasincreasednationaltelevisionexposuretotheLeagueasawholethroughaggressiveanduniquetelevisionpackages.
UnderKallander’sleadership,theBigSouthdevelopedandiniti-ateditsfirstlong-rangestrategicplan,re-affirmingtheLeague’svisionasadistinctiveathleticConferencecommittedtothequalityofinstitutionallifethroughathleticcompetition.Healsospearheadedtheeffortstoaddfootballasachampionshipsport,whichcametofruitionin2002,andhassolidifiedConferencemembershipwiththeadditionsofHighPoint,Gardner-WebbandPresbyterian,andin2011-12,thereturnofchartermemberCampbellUniversity.Kallander’slongrangevisionhasalsoincludedtechnologicaladvancements,astheConferenceintroduceditsfirstliveeventvideostreamingin2005andhassinceexpandeditsvideoofferingstomorethan600eventsannuallythroughapartnershipwiththememberinstitutions,aswellasthecreationofseveralonlineandsocialmediaplatforms.
Inthelast15years,theBigSouthhasexperiencedmonumentalgrowthandsuccessinnearlyeverysport.Duringthistime,theCon-
ferencehashadtwoindividualNationalChampions,morethan200All-Americans,hasreachedthe“Sweet16”inmen’ssoccer,women’sbasketballandbaseball,hasreceivednationalTop25rankingsinmen’ssoccer,men’sbasketball,women’sbasketball,baseball,men’soutdoortrack&field,andmen’sgolf,hadanindividualselectedtoplayintheNCAASinglesChampionshipfourtimesinadditiontothefirstmen’stennisdoublesat-largeselection,hadtheNo.1rankedmen’sgolferinthecountry,hashadthenation’stopscoringmen’sbasketballteamthreeconsecutiveyearsaswellasthenationalmen’sbasketballscoringleadertwice,receivedanat-largeplayoffberthintheFootballChampionshipSubdivisionin2006,andhadaninstitutionfinishfifthintheNCAAMen’sGolfChampionships–thehighest-everteamfinishinanNCAAevent.
TheConference’stagline,“DevelopingLeadersThroughAthletics”wasunveiledin2008-09inconjunctionwiththeConference’s25thAnni-versary.TheLeaguealsohonoreditsheritagewiththeTop25“BestoftheBest”momentsinLeaguehistoryfrom1983-2008,withLibertyUniversity’s10-yearwomen’sbasketballchampionshiprunfrom1996-2007beingcrownedtheNo.1momentintheBigSouth’sfirst25years.TheConfer-ence’son-fieldaccomplishmentshavebeenduplicatedintheclassroom.Annually,morethan40percentofConferencestudent-athletesarenamedtotheBigSouth’sPresidentialHonorRollformaintainingacumulative3.0grade-pointaverage,andtheLeaguehashadmorethan95AcademicAll-Americansinitsquarter-centuryofexistence.

ThehardwoodfloorwasproducedbyHornerFlooring,locatedinDollarBay,Michiganandfoundedin1891.AlongwithRadfordUniversity,HornerFlooringcanbefoundatAllenFieldhouse(UniversityofKansas),TheBreslinCenter(MichiganStateUniversity),TheKohlCenter(UniversityofWisconsin),ALLTELPavilion(VirginiaCommonwealth)andtheGeorgiaDome,whichhostedthe2002NCAAFinalFour. Branch&Associates,Inc.(Roanoke,Va.)wasresponsibleforthelargestpartoftherenovations,whichconsistedofreplacingthefacilities’air-supportedfabricroofwithamoremodernizedfabricstructure,supportedbyninesteeltrusses.Byreplacingtheair-supportedroof,anewairconditioningandaircir-culationsystemisbeinginstalledthroughoutthefacility,makingitmoreadaptableforallseasonsandamorecomfortableandquietenvironment. OtherimprovementstotheDedmonCenterincludeanewhigh-techlightingsystemwithshuttercapa-bilities,enhancingthepre-gameaswellasin-gameatmosphere.Theimprovedlightingwillalsocreateamoreviewer-friendlypictureforthetelevisionaudience. TheDedmonCenteralsohousesthedepartment’snewLearningEnhancementCenter(LEC),dedi-catedtostudent-athletesupportservicesandastate-of-the-art,5,000square-ft.weightroomdedicatedtotheneedsoftheUniversity’s19varsityathleticteams. Thecomplexfeaturesseveraladjoiningfacilities,includingintercollegiatefieldsforbaseball,softball,fieldhockeyandtennis,alongwithsoccerpracticefieldsandintermuralsoccer,footballandsoftballfields.InadditionPatrickD.CuppStadiumaddsaintercollegiatesoccerandtrackandfieldcomplex. BradEpperleyjoinedRadfordAthleticsinNovemberof2009astheDirectorofFacilitiesandEquipment.Asthedirector,heoverseestheday-to-dayoperationsofRadford’sathleticfacilitiesandservesasagameoperationsmanagerforallhomeevents. Epperleybrings15yearsofexperienceinthefieldoffacilitymanagementmostrecentlyworkingfortheCityofSalemParksandRecreationDepartmentsinceFebruaryof2000. WhileemployedwiththeCityofSalem,Epperleyservedtwodifferentroles.HewasthefacilitymanageroftheJamesI.MoyerSportsComplexandSalemKiwanisBaseballFieldfromAug.2005toNov.2009.Priortothat,hewasthecity’ssportssupervisor.Inhis10yearswiththeParksandRecreationdepartment,Epperleywasinchargeoftheday-to-dayopera-tionsofastateoftheartfour-fieldsportscomplexandapreviousminorleaguestadium.Hisprimaryrespon-sibilitiesweretorecruitandmanageeventsalongwiththecoordinationofmediarelations,whichincluded

A1991graduateofRoanokeCollege,LineburgstartedhiscollegiatebasketballcareerasaHighlander,wherehewasatwo-yearlettermanbeforetransferringtonearbyRoanokeCollegetoplayhisfinaltwoyears.
HeearnedhisBachelor’sinpoliticalsciencewithaminorinhistory.In1995,hereceivedaMaster’sDegreeineducationfromVirginiaTech,wherehewasalsoagraduateassistantonthemen’sbasketballstaff.
