Falmouth Community Television 2010 Annual Report 3

For the past 19 years, we at FCTV have seen significant changes in our facility, in the growth of membership, the quality and quantity of programs and most of all the expectations of our community. Thankfully our members and supporters have supported us in meeting the expectations of our Falmouth neighbors and continue to give generously of their time and their dollars.

2010 was a busy year in which we continued to show growth. We are pleased to present this annual report and highlight many of our accomplishments of 2010, some of which include:

• Go live with FCTV - Channel 15, our new Government Access Channel.

• Work with the Falmouth Emergency Operations Center to assist with the dissemination of critical information about the Town-Wide Boil Water Alert and Hurricane Earl.

• Coordinate weekly Citizen Journalism forums, empowering members to actively participate in the process of collecting, reporting and analyzing local news and information stories in an easy-to-digest fashion using Zi8 cameras.

• Bringing together twelve FCTV members to compete in the first ever Movie Making Boot Camp designed to teach the art of narrative video production to volunteer producers.

• Partner with community leaders and local organizations to recognize and celebrate our First Amendment rights during Freedom of Speech Week.

• In partnership with FCTV volunteers, provide live coverage of the Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan Review Committee meetings.

• Receive a grant from Cape Light Compact to update lighting throughout the facility including new studio lights.

• Partner with the Gus Canty Recreation Center on annual summer youth workshops.• Participate in the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce Preserve America promotion. • Assist in the installation of emergency override of local community channels from Falmouth Fire Rescue on

Main Street. • Produce the monthly Village Green Magazine program which provides an outlet, training vehicle and

springboard to new and existing volunteers who videotape and edit shorts about our community and its citizens.

• Awarded first place from the Alliance for Community Media, Northeast Region for the Village Green Magazine show in the News and Magazine format category.

• Presentation of FCTV Summer Lecture Series featuring Producer/Director Michael Bavaro (June), and “Boy Band” Producer Andrea Ajemian (July).

• Update equipment including the addition of an iPAD Teleprompter system, Kodak Zi8 digital cameras, LCD monitors, QVidium which allows FCTV to go live from outside locations using broadband Internet, iMAC editing system, Apple boxes and C-stands.

• Continue live streaming and expand video on demand. • Provide youth-oriented training in the form of workshops, camps and ongoing kids’ clubs, expanding the

number of regular clubs from one to two and offering summer and vacation programs for youth. • Recognition by the Falmouth Rotary of FCTV community impact.• Hold two PSA Days to provide studio and production crew to Falmouth non-profit organizations.• Provide staff coverage of the Falmouth Road Race, Falmouth Christmas Parade, Town Meeting and

Selectmen Meetings while also coordinating volunteer coverage of several other government meetings and community events.

• Obtain grants from Falmouth Road Race, Cape Light Compact and Shaw’s Supermarket.

EDUCATIONAL ACCESS CHANNEL 14

Falmouth Educational Access Channel (EdTV) has had an eventful year bringing Falmouth Public Schools’ content to its viewers. With the work of many individuals including EdTV’s Access Coordinator, Ryan Webber; Nick Riebesehl, student manager; and other student volunteers; EdTV continues to grow. A new automatically-updated program schedule and current weather report have been added to our bulletin board, which continues to provide information such as events, lunch menus, and sports schedules.

Shows are now broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. School Committee meetings continue to be broadcast live on Tuesday evenings, and are rebroadcast twice daily at 9am and 7pm. Morse Pond School’s “Catapult!” is aired daily at 4pm as part of our kids’ hour. Additional lineup items include the informative Parent Connection Series featuring topics such as Internet safety, bullying, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Music, choral, and band concerts continue to be broadcast on a regular basis as well as the schools’ open house/meet the teacher nights. Special segments such as the FHS choral performance in New York City, and the live broadcast of the FHS Boys’ basketball semifinals at the TD Banknorth Garden have added great variation to our standard lineup.

EdTV’s main office has now moved to Falmouth High School with the completion of the FHS Renovation. A new editing suite, complete with an 8-core Mac Pro, has been completed adjacent to Falmouth High School’s new studio. The design and implementation of this studio was a collaboration between Falmouth Public Schools and EdTV and is now being used by students and staff to produce content for both programs.

With the enthusiastic support of FCTV’s staff, Falmouth Public Schools Superintendent Marc Dupuis, Falmouth High School’s video teacher Barry Sadoff, and many others, EdTV continues to thrive.
