REVIEWING LAST WEEK’S WIN DePauw’s defense stopped Adrian twice from the 1-yard line in the game’s final minute and the Tigers remained undefeated at 6-0 with a 23-19 win over the visiting Bulldogs. The Tigers’ start is their best since 1951, while Adrian dropped to 2-4. DePauw took a 23-10 lead early in the fourth on Michael Engle’s 2-yard scoring pass to Alex Koors with 14:15 left, but the point-after was blocked. The Bulldogs drove to the DePauw 29 before the Tigers stopped them on downs. The Tigers, however, were forced to punt on their next possession and Adrian needed just three plays to score as Mike McGee completed a 43-yard scoring pass to Jared Edwards which closed the gap to 23-17 with 9:07 left. DePauw then drove to the Adrian 13, but Eric Malm’s 31-yard field goal try hit the left upright giving the Bulldogs the ball at the Adrian 20. McGee drove Adrian to the DePauw 17, but a first down pass from McGee to Justin Hemm ended in a fumble which the Tigers’ Ryan Huffman recovered with just 2:59 left. DePauw was unable to pick up a first down on its next series and punter Adam Hill ran out of the end zone as the Tigers took a safety making it 23-19. Adrian returned the free kick to its own 47 and drove to the Tigers’ 9. Jared Edwards picked up five yards on first down and Jeremy Southworth gained three on the next play. Following an Adrian timeout with 37 seconds left, Southworth got the call two more times but was stopped short of paydirt each time and DePauw took over on downs. The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead in the game on Malm’s 30-yard field goal just four minutes into

the contest and Adrian gained a 7-3 advantage on D’ante Thompson’s 4-yard pass from McGee with just 51 seconds left in the first. Logan Mitseff ’s 45-yard field goal early in the second pushed Adrian to a 10-3 lead, but Taylor Wagner’s 77-yard punt return for a score midway through the quarter knotted the contest at 10-10. Koors gave the Tigers a 17-10 lead late in the third on a 7-yard scoring pass from Engle and expanded it in the fourth with his second score of the game. Adrian outgained the Tigers, 360-321, and held a 23-18 edge in first downs. Engle completed 28 of 39 passes for 260 yards and two scores with eight passes going to Koors for 96 yards. In the fourth quarter, Koors topped the South-ern Collegiate Athletic Conference career receiving yards record held by Trinity’s Jason Hunt. He also extended his streak with at least one catch to 35 straight games. Koors also moved his career recep-tions total to 216 which is just one shy of tying the DePauw and SCAC record. Derrick Karazsia caught seven for 52 yards and rushed for 53 yards on 15 carries. McGee completed 22 of 38 passes for 265 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with eight going to Hemm for 93 yards and five to Thompson for 34 yards. Defensively, Ryan Preuss paced the Tigers with 14 total tackles, while Matt Johnson added 12 and Jonathan Lambert 11. Danny Taylor paced the Bulldogs with 12 tackles and Chris Cook added 11.

REVIEWING LAST YEAR’S MEETING DePauw running backs Jon Ellis and Derrick Karaszia each topped the 100-yard rushing plateau against the nation’s 16th-ranked rushing defense and led the Tigers to a 26-18 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Trinity. DePauw improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the SCAC, while Trinity dropped to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference. With its first victory over Trin-ity in 11 tries and Millsaps’ 24-0 win over Centre, DePauw moved into a first-place tie with Millsaps in the conference standings.

The teams exchanged first quarter field goals as DePauw’s Jordan Havercamp hit a 34-yarder and Trinity’s Garrett Biel knocked in one from 38 yards. Havercamp connected on a 22-yarder early in the second to give DePauw a 6-3 lead. Later in the second, DePauw pinned Trinity at the seven when Havercamp was called upon for a 47-yard field goal try, but instead punted. Trinity used 13 plays to cover the 93 yards with Al Furlow scoring on a 3-yard run with 31 seconds remaining in the half giving Trinity a 10-6 lead. DePauw’s defense stopped Trinity near midfield of its opening drive of the second half and the Tigers started their first series of the half on their own 24. Spud Dick completed all three passes and, mixed in with the running of Karazsia and Ellis, DePauw drove to the Trinity 1. Ellis suffered a 3-yard loss on second down, but Dick teamed with Bryan Mulligan for a 4-yard score which gave the hosts a 13-10 lead with 5:58 left in the third. Caleb Urban’s 33-yard return on the ensuing kickoff gave Trinity the ball at its own 44. Trinity picked up a first down on the opening play and crossed midfield, but four penalties totaling 30 yards pushed them back to their own 27 and faced with a third-and-39 situation. Following Trinity’s punt, DePauw started on its own 29 and quickly drove to the Trinity 20 helped by Dick’s 29-yard pass to Brayden Dahlstrom and a 13-yard strike to Alex Koors. Ellis then scam-pered in from the 20 as time expired in the third. Havercamp’s point-after extended DePauw’s lead to 20-10. The Tigers’ defense stopped Trinity on downs at midfield on their initial fourth quarter possession and, after the teams exchanged punts, DePauw got the ball back at its own 19 with 8:50 left. Ellis carried three straight times for 43 yards as the Tigers moved to the Trinity 39. Karazsia then rushed three times for 19 yards to the 20. Dick completed a 10-yard pass to Mulligan and Ellis ran for eight to the 2. Dick then lofted a pass over a Trinity defender to Anthony Meek who ran it in from the 2 to make it 26-10 with 4:23 left. Another long return by Urban gave Trinity the ball on its own 44. They drove to the DePauw 10

Davidson’s 2-point conversion pass to Tyson Cannon closed the gap to 26-18 with 2:02 left. Koors recovered Biel’s onside kick, but the Tigers weren’t able to run out the clock and Adam Hill punted to the Trinity 17. Davidson’s pass on the game’s final play fell incomplete. TIGER NOTES Michael Engle tied a DePauw single-game record with six touchdown passes in the season-opening win over Rose-Hulman … Alex Koors has caught at least one pass in each of the 35 games he’s played in his career and touchdown passes in all six this season … Koors tied his own school record and that held by several players when he caught three touchdown passes in the win over Sewanee … Taylor Wagner’s 77-yard punt return for a touch-down against Adrian was DePauw’s first straight TD return since Adam Sisson accomplished the feat (56 yards) at Sewanee on October 11, 2003 … Chris Gasbarra returned a blocked punt seven yards for a score against Anderson on September 13, 2008 … Wagner’s return was the longest by a DePauw player since John Stephens returned one 86 yards against Millsaps on October 20, 2001, and is the seventh longest in Division III this year … the Tigers rank 13th in Division III with 298.8 pass-ing yards per game and 26th in passing efficiency at 155.79 … DePauw has allowed just 0.67 sacks per game which ranks in a tie for 18th … DePauw leads the SCAC in passing offense, total offense, pass efficiency, scoring defense, total defense and turnover margin … DePauw has clinched a .500 or better season for the 15th straight season which extends its school record streak … the Tigers are 50-15 dating back to the beginning of the 2004 season and are 29-7 over the last four seasons ... this season is the 123rd in school history dating back to a single game against Butler in 1884 ... in 70 seasons at Blackstock Stadium, DePauw teams have posted a 191-127-5 record for a .599 winning percentage … DePauw has outscored the opposi-tion by an 91-9 margin in the second quarter of games this year by allowing just three field goals … the Tigers outscore the opposition by a 115-30 margin in the first half … Eric Malm was suc-cessful on the first 27 extra-point attempts of his

career before having one blocked against Adrian … DePauw’s streak of games in which it held the time of possession lead ended at 13 when Adrian held a 30:20-29:40 edge. Prior to that Centre was the last team to hold the advantage and that came in 2009 … DePauw’s 201 points after six games is the most by a DePauw team after six contests since the 1943 team totaled 206. That team finished 5-0-1 and is the last DePauw team and one of only two in program history to go undefeated … DePauw is one of just 22 Division III schools without a loss this season … the Tigers have allowed just 97 points after six games which is the best DePauw performance since the 2006 squad gave up just 89 through the first six contests … DePauw’s 6-0 start is the best in program history since the 1951 team opened with seven straight wins.
