2010 Summit
2010 Summit Declaration Of SupportWHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee region consisting of Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson Counties – whose leadership collaborate on regional growth and planning issues through such organizations as the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Cumberland Region Tomorrow, the Middle Tennessee Mayors Caucus, Leadership Middle Tennessee, the Regional Chambers Caucus, the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee, and many others, to establish a collective vision and plan of action to address regional quality growth issues and opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the participating governments, agencies, nonprofits and other interested parties are represented under the POWER OF TEN umbrella and are committed to turning talk into action while preparing for the future growth and sustainability of this place we call home; and
WHEREAS, at this year's "Convening the Region Summit," the Nashville Area MPO has unveiled a visionary Regional Transportation Plan with a horizon year of 2035, developed through an extensive, multi-year outreach process with regional stakeholders and the public; there is a clear need to define the direction of growth and development of our region, to create livable communities and centers, to preserve our natural resources, to build an energy efficient economy, and to establish a true multi-modal transportation system that serves a broad range of constituencies,
NOW THEREFORE be it RESOLVED that as a member of this community, I will work with my colleagues in a collaborative spirit to harness the POWER OF TEN and create a future we can all be proud of. To turn regional challenges into opportunities, we must work together. One county or one person alone cannot do it. It will take us all - working together - and I pledge my support.
