Tournament Categories are self-selected. Players who have two consecutive Championship wins within the B Category will be required to play in the A category. Members are not permitted to play in more than one Category per Division. Seeding will be determined by the Tournament Director and will be based on prior Tournament results and player ability. All dates and times for matches will be posted with the draw sheet. It is the player’s responsibility to check the Draw Sheet to confirm their match times. All matches will be scheduled on a weekend. All matches must be played at the date and time scheduled. Only weather will dictate a change in a scheduled match. Unfortunately, injury, illness or unforeseen circumstances cannot be reasons for rescheduling a match. However, if all participants of a pre semi-final match agree to play on a date and time prior to the one posted, and court time is available, the match may be rescheduled for that time. In this case a Tournament Match Rescheduling Form must be submitted to the Tennis Coordinator immediately. This form may be obtained from the Pro Shop. An example of this form follows on page 13. Format of Play – Matches will have a 10-minute warm up period. A First Match Consolation Draw Format will be used, which guarantees every player at least two matches. A description of a First Match Consolation Draw Format follows on Page 8. The first player/team to win six games wins that “Set,” provided there is a margin of two games over the opponent(s). If the score reaches six games all, a tie break game shall be played. This tie-break game shall be “First to 7 Points with a Margin of 2 Points.” A description of this tie-break game format follows on page 9. All matches throughout the entire tournament will be played “best of 3 Sets” with the exception of the 65s Divisions. 65s Divisions: All matches prior to the Finals will be 2 Sets. If the score in a match is one set all, one tie-break game shall be played to decide the match. This tie break game shall be “First to 12 Points with a Margin of 2 Points.” A description of the tie-break game format follows on Page 9. Final Tournament Matches will be 3 sets. The Tennis Professional Staff will umpire the Final Matches.

The Tournament Director will make final decisions regarding any and all matters concerning the Tournament. A Tournament Awards Presentation will take place on the Tennis Deck immediately following finals of each “Club Championship” tournament. Awards will be presented to the Champion(s) and Finalist(s) of each Tournament. Specialty menu items will be available from the Lake Naomi Clubhouse by pre-purchase with the Lake Naomi Tennis Pro Shop.

First Match Consolation Draw

The consolation match must be played in order to qualify for inclusion in future Lake Naomi Tennis tournaments. Players able to commit to only play one match should not register for this tournament. Consolation matches will be scheduled simultaneously with regular play matches. The purpose of this type of draw is to allow all participants a minimum of two matches. When a player or team wins their first match, they move in the normal direction on the draw sheet (Championship Draw). The non-winning player or team (from their 1st match) moves to the left into the Consolation Draw. If a player or team receives a Bye and loses their first match, they are moved into the Consolation Draw. From this point forward, the winning players or teams continue to play, and the non winning players or teams are eliminated from further play. Traditionally, the winner of the Championship Draw is declared Champion, and 2nd place is the Finalist. The winner on the Consolation side is declared Consolation Champion.

“First to 7 Points with a Margin of 2 Points” Tie Break Game used To Determine the Winner of a Set

When a 6-Game Tie is Reached in a Set The 12-point tiebreaker is employed when the score of any set reaches 6 games each. The goal is to be the first player to reach 7 points, and the player must win by a margin of 2 points (7-5, 8-6, 14-12, etc.). Player A serves the first point into the deuce (or forehand) court. Player B serves the second point into the ad (or backhand) court, and serves the third point into the deuce (or forehand) court. Player A serves the fourth and fifth points in the same manner. The players continue to play in this manner until one player reaches 7 points, and is ahead by 2 points. The players switch sides after every 6 points. If another set is necessary, or if another tiebreaker is to be played to determine the match (in the above scenario) Player B would be the first to serve.

2010 Adult 65s Tournaments

“First to 12 Points with a Margin of 2 Points” Tie Break Game used to Determine the Match

First player to reach 12 points by a margin of 2 wins the tie-break and the Match. Player A serves the first point into the deuce (or forehand) court. The players continue to play in this manner until one player reaches 12 points, and is ahead by 2 points. The players switch sides after every 6 points.

To place yourself in an NTRP skill level: 1. Begin with 1.0. Read the descriptions of all the general characteristics carefully and then decide which one best describes your present tennis-playing ability. 2. Assume you are competing against players of the same gender and ability level. 3. If in doubt, place yourself in the next highest level. To check your self-rating: After choosing a playing level, ask yourself: “Can I play competitively against any age player of my gender who is rated at the same level that I have rated myself?” If your answer is “yes,” your self-rating is probably accurate. NTRP SPECIFIC DETAILS can be found posted in the Proshop and via www.lakenaomitennis.com – Our Lake Naomi Club Tennis website provided by our Tennis Professional, Bobby McKee.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF NTRP PLAYING LEVELS 1.0 This player is just starting to play tennis. 1.5 This player has limited experience and is still working primarily on getting the ball into play. 2.0 This player needs on-court experience. This player has obvious stroke weaknesses but is familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play. 2.5 This player is learning to judge where the ball is going, although court coverage is weak. Can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability. 3.0 This player is fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots, but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks execution when trying for directional control, depth, or power. Most common doubles formation is one up, one back.

3.5 This player has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety. This player exhibits more aggressive net play, has improved court coverage, and is developing teamwork in doubles. 4.0 This player has dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots, and volleys with some success. This player occasionally forces errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident. 4.5 This player has begun to master the use of power and spins and is beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. This player can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. This player tends to over hit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in doubles. 5.0 This player has good shot anticipation and frequently has an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be structured. This player can regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls and can put away volleys, can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, overhead smashes, and has good depth and spin on most second serves. 5.5 This player has developed power and/or consistency as a major weapon. This player can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hits dependable shots in a stress situation. 6.0 to 7.0 The 6.0 player typically has had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and has obtained a sectional and/or national ranking. The 6.5 and 7.0 are world-class players. The Tennis Committee Members have posted their personal ratings at the Lake Naomi Club Tennis Pro Shop for you to reference.
