How to Enter TournamentsWhen entering a tournament please refer to the ‘contact’ column on the following list of events for 2010.

All Australian Ranking points tournaments will be offering online entry. Details of the tournament and online entry is available online at tournaments.tennis.com.au. Schedule information, draws and results can also be found on this website.

Entry forms are generally available by contacting the phone number or email address listed for the tournament. Some tournaments also have entry forms available on the internet so please check Tennis Victoria’s website tennis.com.au/vic (Tournaments/Entries) first.

Players are not permitted to enter two tournaments where the dates overlap. The only exception to this rule is where one of these tournaments has a limited size draw. Strict penalties apply to players who breach this condition.

Code of BehaviourThe ‘Code of Behaviour’ is enforced at all sanctioned tournaments and competitions and can involve penalties that include the loss of Australian Ranking points as well as suspension from all competitions and tournaments.

Please check tennis.com.au/vic (Tournaments) for more details. Players, parents and spectators are encouraged to review this document and to be aware of the level of behaviour expected at sanctioned competitions and tournaments.

Tournament RegulationsAll Australian Ranking point tournaments (Australian Money Tournaments and Optus Junior Tour events) are conducted according to a set of strict tournament regulations. This covers the procedures the Tournament Directors and officials use in the conduct of tournaments.

Optus Junior Tour events in 2010 will feature the compulsory feed-in of players up to and including the round of 16. For gold events, this will also extend to players that reach the quarterfinals playing for places first through to eighth.

Australian RankingThe Australian Ranking ranks Australian tournament players from ATP/WTA level, through to 12/u state level performers with one all encompassing ranking system. A player’s Australian Ranking will be made up of their best eight singles plus 25% of their best six doubles results on a 12 month calendar rollover system from results of all Australian Ranking point events. The mix of a player’s best results is modified dependent on their age. Rankings can be found on tennisrankings.com.au and points tables can be found at tennis.com.au.

Best Eight Results

This mix of best eight singles and best six doubles

results is dependent on the following:

Athletes aged 12/u (up to 13th birthday)

Results only calculated from tournaments contested in

either the12/u or 14/u age groups.

Athletes aged 13 to 16 (13th birthday through

to 16th birthday)

Results can only include a maximum of four post

junior tournaments in singles and three post junior

tournaments in doubles.

Athletes aged 16 and over (16th birthday onwards)

No restriction on the composition of their results.

Australian Ranking Tournament Classifications

For 2010 there have been several changes to the

classifications of Australian Ranking points tournaments.

Australian Money Tournaments (AMTs) now incorporate

the previous National Open Tournaments and have set

prize money based on the level of the tournament.

AMTs and Optus Junior Tour (OJT) events have been

separated into five levels of events. They range from

Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and White. Australian

Ranking points available and prize money at AMT

events will reflect the level of tournament.

AMTs

Platinum AMTs offer $10,000 total prize money, and are the pinnacle open events, designed to be the stepping stone up to the Pro Tour events. These events have restricted size draws based on ranking.

Silver AMTs offer a total of $5000 prize money across the men’s and women’s open events.

Gold AMTs offer $7500 total prize money and are the highest open sized draw events.

Bronze AMTs have a total prize money pool of $3000 for the open events.

OJT’sWith over 35 OJT events conducted throughout Victoria, OJT’s offer varying levels of Australian Ranking points as categorised by their level. The

top level of tournament is the Optus National Junior Championships which are classified as Platinum events. The level of points then reduce between

Gold, Silver, Bronze and White, which offers the lowest amounts of points within each age group.

White AMTs offer the lowest prize money and Australian Ranking points with $1500 total prize money available.

Offering the highest level of point, OJT Platinum events represent the National Junior Championships and have limited draw sizes.

OJT Gold events award the highest level of points at the state level with players reaching the final eight playing out for positions 1-8.

OJT Silver events offer less ranking points than gold events with 16/u winners receiving 24 ranking points (14/u and 12/u age groups are awarded a lower number of points).

OJT Bronze events are a mid-level tournament offering the 16/u winners 20 ranking points (14/u and 12/u age groups are awarded a lower number of points).

OJT White events are the introductory level junior ranking point events, with the 16/u winners receiving 16 ranking points (14/u and 12/u age groups are awarded a lower number of points).

MLC Tennis Hot Shots MLC Tennis Hot Shots is the fun way for kids to learn how to play tennis. Smaller courts, nets, racquets and low-compression balls make learning easy and gives younger players the chance to serve, rally and score right from the first time they play.

From the first moment players participate in the MLC Tennis Hot Shots program, they will ‘play the game’ of tennis. This means players are able to serve, rally and score in an exciting International Tennis Federation (ITF) endorsed competition format.

MLC Tennis Hot Shots Challenges provide children with the opportunity to participate in a fun competition in an encouraging environment. They can also provide a stepping stone for children moving into competitions such as the Junior Development Series.

Tennis Victoria MembershipAll players who wish to compete in competitions and tournaments sanctioned by Tennis Victoria must be a registered member of Tennis Victoria.

The easiest way to become a registered member is to join a club that is affiliated with Tennis Victoria. There are approximately 1000 affiliated tennis clubs throughout Victoria. Players can also join directly with Tennis Victoria.

Player Sanction FeeIn 2008 Tennis Victoria introduced a player sanction fee to Australian Money Tournaments, Optus Junior Tour events and Junior Development Series tournaments.

The funds from the player sanction fee are used for the provision of services that support player development and tournament infrastructure. To ensure all aspects of these events are conducted to a high standard, ongoing investment in training and other support services is needed. This not only benefits the tournament but also the participants.

The 2010 fees will be:

– Australian Money Tournaments and Optus Junior Tour events – $5.00 per player

– Junior Development Series tournaments – $3.00 per player

Pennant Competition

Pennant is the largest club representative competition in the country with over 3500 junior and adult players representing 150 clubs. Men’s and women’s teams of all ages and standards enter the 14 week plus finals competition, which features singles and doubles and can be played on Saturday’s or Sunday’s.

Team entries close in early March with the competition commencing on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 April. The competition is open to all metropolitan Tennis Victoria affiliated clubs to enter.

Junior Pennant Competition

Junior Pennant is the largest metropolitan inter-association competition offering a 10 week plus finals competition for junior players in the 10/u, 12/u, 14/u and 16/u age groups.

The competition takes place on Sunday mornings with boys and girls teams of four players selected by local associations to represent them in the competition.

The season commences on Sunday 22 August and finishes on Sunday 21 November.

for players moving up from the Optus Junior Tour. AMTs provide a

minimum of $1500 prize money and ranking points in open events only.

A series of premier regional team events held across Victoria for teams

from metropolitan associations and our country regions.

These prestigious events showcase our emerging junior talent with

events ranging from 10/u to 18/u (includes open events).

The Talent Search Program is designed to identify young and exciting athletes aged between 6 and 11 who have a desire and

capacity to play and excel in sport. Each Talent Search day is limited

to approximately 50 places so register today! Register online
