    COLORADO SPRINGS -

    World champions Dremiel

    Byers and Kristie Davis will

    lead the 21-member U.S.

    wrestling team into the World

    Championships on Sept. 6-12

    in Moscow, Russia.

    The seven-day competition

    will start with the Greco-Roman

    tournament, followed by

    womens freestyle and mens

    freestyle.

    Davis, formerly Kristie

    Marano, is a two-time World

    champion. She has dropped

    down to 67 kg/147.5 lbs. She

    won a silver medal in her last

    trip to the Worlds in 2007. She

    is a U.S. record nine-time

    World medalist.

    Byers won a World silver

    medal in 2009 in Greco-

    Roman and a World bronze

    medal in 2007 at 120 kg/264.5

    lbs.

    The U.S. freestyle team is

    led by returning World silver

    medalist Jake Herbert at 84

    kg/185 lbs.

    2006 World silver medalist

    Mike Zadick will make his third

    appearance in the Worlds in

    freestyle wrestling at 60 kg/132

    lbs.

    Past World bronze medalist

    Justin Ruiz is back on the

    Greco-Roman team. He is

    making his fifth trip to the

    Worlds. He competes at 96

    kg/211.5 lbs.

    2008 World bronze medalist

    Tatiana Padilla has made her

    third straight World Team at 55

    kg/121 lbs. Padilla was fifth in

    the World in 2009.

    Olympian Spenser Mango

    has made his second straight

    World Team in Greco-Roman

    at 55 kg/121 lbs.

    Byers and Zadick also are

    past Olympians.

    Jones was named the

    National Freestyle

    Coach for USA

    Wrestling in September

    2008.

    Jones previously spent

    three seasons as the

    head coach at the

    University of

    Pennsylvania. Jones

    coached Penns Matt

    Valenti to back-to-backNCAA titles in 2006 and 2007.

    Jones was an Olympic Freestyle Coach for the

    2004 U.S. Olympic Team, which competed in

    Athens, Greece. The U.S. won three medals in

    Athens, with a gold by Cael Sanderson and sil-

    vers by Stephen Abas and Jamill Kelly.

    Jones served as head coach for the American

    team at the 2001 World Championships. The U.S.

    placed fifth in the team standings and featured a

    pair of silver medalists. Jones was the head

    coach for a pair of U.S. teams that won champi-

    onships at the World Cup. He was named

    National Freestyle Coach of the Year by USA

    Wrestling.

    Jones was head coach of the 2003 Pan American

    Games team, which won the team title and cap-

    tured four individual gold medals. He also was onthe U.S. coaching staff for the 1996 and 2000

    Olympic Games. Among the athletes he coached

    were 1996 Olympic gold medalist Kendall Cross

    and 2000 Olympic silver medalist Sammie

    Henson.

    Jones had an outstanding career at the interna-

    tional level. He won a gold medal at the 1991

    World Championships. Jones also claimed a silver

    medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona,

    Spain. He added a bronze medal at the 1995

    World Championships. He placed fourth in the

    1990 and 1993 World Championships. He was a

    member of the U.S. squads that won World team

    titles in 1993 and 1995.

    Jones, a four-time World Cup champion, is a

    Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling

    Hall of Fame. Jones was voted Worlds MostTechnical Wrestler by FILA.

    Jones wrestled on the 1988 NCAA Championship

    team at Arizona State, where he was a NCAA

    finalist and was a three-time All-American for the

    Sun Devils.

    Jones and his wife, Renee, have four children,

    Jessica, David, Rebecca and Jacob.

    Zadick won a World

    Zadick retired from competition after placing sec-

    ond at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

    Zadick had a standout collegiate career for the

    University of Iowa.

    He was a two-time All-American for the

    Hawkeyes, capturing an NCAA title in 1996 while

    wrestling under Dan Gable.

    A native of Great Falls, Montana, Zadick won four

    state titles for Great Falls High School.

    Zadicks younger brother, Mike, won a World sil-

    ver medal in freestyle wrestling in 2006.

    Zadick also competed in the 2001 World

    Championships, placing seventh.

    He was a runner-up at the U.S. Olympic Team

    Trials in 2000 and 2008. He was a three-time

    U.S. Nationals runner-up (2003, 2006, 2008) and

    a two-time World Team Trials runner-up (1999,2002).

    Zadick was a U.S. Olympic Training Center

    Resident athlete from 2004-2008, where his

    freestyle career flourished on the mat under

    stunned many wrestling observers by winning an

    Olympic gold medal in 2000. Slay knocked off

    Russias Bouvaisa Saitiev en route to the gold

    medal. Saitiev won Olympic titles in 1996, 2004

    and 2008.

    A native of Amarillo, Texas, Slay was a two-time

    NCAA runner-up competing for the Univ. of

    Pennsylvania, where he received a degree from

    the Wharton School of Business.

    Slay won three Texas state high school titles for

    Tascosa High School, and was an all-district foot-

    ball player.

    He also served as

    ond in the team standings and winning three

    medals, including a gold medal by Stephen Neal.

    As coach of the 1998 U.S. World Team, the U.S.

    placed third in the team standings in Tehran, Iran

    with three medals, including a gold medal by

    Sammie Henson.

    He also was a coach on the 2009 U.S. World

    Team.

    He is currently the head coach at Oklahoma

    State. He is the winningest coach in Oklahoma

    State history, and has led the Cowboys to five

    NCAA team titles (1995, 2003-2006). He has

    coached 23 NCAA individual champions and five

    Olympians, including 2004 silver medalist Jamill

    Kelly. Oklahoma State has won 10 Big 12 team

    titles under Smith. Seven times, Smith has beenBig 12 Coach of the Year.

    As an athlete, Smith was considered by many the

    best freestyle wrestler in U.S. history. He claimed

    gold medals at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic

    Games, and won four World gold medals (1987,

    1989, 1990, 1991). His six straight World-level

    titles is unprecedented. He also won titles at the

    Pan American Games (twice), Goodwill Games

    (twice) and the World Cup.

    Smith won most of the major awards in amateur

    athletics, including the James E. Sullivan Award,

    the USOC SportsMan of the Year and the World

    Trophy. He was FILA Wrestler of the Year in

    1991, and won the 1990 FILA Master of

    Technique Award. He is a member of the FILA

    International Hall of Fame and the National

    Wrestling Hall of Fame, along with many othermajor honors.

    Smith was a two-time NCAA champion for

    Oklahoma State (1987-88) and a three-time All-

    American. He originally hails from Del City, Okla.,

    where he won two state high school titles.

    Brands was one of the nation's greatest freestyle

    wrestlers, winning World gold medals in 1993 in

    Toronto, Canada and in 1995 in Atlanta, Ga. at 57

    kg/125.5 pounds.

    In 2000, he made a comeback and won the U.S.

    Olympic Team Trials in Dallas, Texas at 58

    kg/127.75 lbs. He earned a bronze medal at the

    2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

    Wrestlings full-time

    National Womens

    Coach in April 2002, the

    first in USA Wrestlings

    history.

    He is responsible for the

    training of Americas

    elite women freestyle

    wrestlers, as well as

    coaching women

    wrestlers who areinvolved in the U.S. Olympic Training Center resi-

    dent athlete program. He will also play an impor-

    tant role in the development of womens wrestling

    in the United States.

    For the first time, womens wrestlers competed in

    the Olympic Games in 2004. Sara McMann won a

    silver medal and Patricia Miranda won a bronze

    medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

    Since becoming USA Wrestlings National

    Womens Coach, U.S. teams on international

    tours have turned in outstanding performances.

    At the 2003 World Championships in New York,

    all seven U.S. women won medals. Kristie

    Marano won a gold medal for the U.S. as it tied

    Japan for the team title.

    Steiner also led the U.S. to the title at the 2003

    World Cup, where the Americans defeated hostJapan to capture the title.

    Steiner also guided two other U.S. athletes to

    World titles - Iris Smith in 2005 and Clarissa Chun

    in 2008.

    Steiner worked six years as an assistant wrestling

    coach at Wisconsin. He helped develop a number

    of top wrestlers, including two-time NCAA champi-

    on Donny Pritzlaff.

    He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach

    at Oregon State.

    Steiner placed second in the 1998 U.S. Nationals.

    He finished fourth in the 1996 Olympic Trials and

    fifth in the 2000 Olympic Trials. He won a gold

    medal at the 1996 Pan American Championships.

    Steiner was a 1993 NCAA champion for the

    University of Iowa, where he wrestled for Dan

    Gable. He was named Outstanding Wrestler ofthe 1993 NCAAs.

    He finished his college career as a three-time All-

    American for the Hawkeyes. He received his

    bachelors degree in social work from the

    University of Iowa in 1993.

    Steiner, originally from Bismarck, N.D., won two

    state high school titles for Century High School.

    Steiner and his wife, Jodi, have one daughter,

    Raven.

    Izboinikov, called

    Coach Izzy by his

    athletes, served 10

    years as a teacher and

    wrestling coach at

    Yucca Valley High

    School in California.

    Izboinikov is a Silver

    level certified coach with USA Wrestlings

    National Coaches Education Program.

    He has coached U.S. womens wrestling teams

    on foreign tours, and has participated in training

    camps with the womens program.

    Since he joined the womens staff, the U.S. has

    crowned individual World champions in Iris Smith

    (2005) and Clarissa Chun (2008).

    He competed as an athlete and earned his

    coaching degrees in his native Russia. Among his

    top achievements was a second-place finish in

    the Russian Junior National/World Team Tryouts

    in 1989.

    Izboinikov received his bachelors degree in

    physical education from Moscow State University

    of Physical Education in 1993. He also received

    his Wrestling Coach diploma in Russia in 1993.He came to the United States in 1993.

    Izboinikov is married, and his wifes name is

    Pam. They have one son, Dimitri, and one

    daughter, Alyssa.

    Davis serves as assistant

    wrestling coach for

    Oklahoma City

    University, where he has

    helped build its womens

    wrestling program into a

    national power. He works

    in all aspects of both

    mens and womens pro-

    grams.

    With Davis guidance,

    OCU has won two con-secutive WCWA Womens national team titles and

    was second at the nationals the previous season.

    In three seasons, OCU womens wrestlers have

    won eight individual WCWA national titles. Four

    OCU womens wrestlers qualified for the 2008

    Olympic Trials.

    Davis has helped coach the U.S. Senior team

    which competed at the 2010 Canada Cup, as well

    as the 2010 Junior World team which competed in

    Hungary. He also helped coach a WCWA college

    team which competed at the Spanish Grand Prix.

    Davis has coached a number of other teams that

    have competed in Canadian tournaments.

    Previously, Davis was a high-school assistant in

    El Reno, Okla., in 2005-06. Davis had been a

    head coach at Broken Arrow, Okla., from 2002-05.

    Davis coached four-time state champion BrandonTucker and three-time state champ Shane Vernon

    at Broken Arrow. Before then, Davis was also a

    head coach at Poteau, Okla.

    Davis was named Oklahoma Coaches Association

    assistant coach of the year in 2002 after helping

    Broken Arrow win the dual state championship.

    With Oklahoma USA Wrestling, Davis was also an

    assistant for Oklahomas three-time Junior

    National Dual champion and 2001 runner-up

    teams.

    As a college wrestler, Davis was a member of

    Central Oklahomas 1996 NCAA Division II run-

    ner-up squad.

    He is married to Kristie Davis, a two-time World

    champion and nine-time World medalist in

    womens freestyle wrestling, and a member of the

    2010 U.S. World Team.

    Wilson was a World

    Team coach with the

    World Team in Tokyo,

    Japan, which placed

    fourth in the World team

    standings and featured

    He was also a coach

    with the 2009 U.S.

    World Cup Team, which competed in Taiyuan,

    China. The U.S. was fifth in the standings with a

    2-2 team record. He was a member of the 2008

    U.S. Olympic team staff, and has also coached at

    the Pan American Championships.

    He also served as World Team coach in 2009.

    Wilson is the personal coach for 2008 World

    champion and 2008 Olympian Clarissa Chun,

    and has worked directly on a regular basis with a

    number of other national-caliber women

    wrestlers.

    He has been a club coach with the Sunkist Kids

    since 2001. The Sunkist Kids placed second at

    the 2009 U.S. Nationals, led by three individual

    champions.

    Wilson is the owner and a coach at Rough House

    MMA and Fitness in Colorado Springs, Colo. Heopened the club this year, which specializes in

    wrestling, No-Gi Grappling, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay-Thai,

    kickboxing, boxing and personal fitness.

    Wilson was a member of the Greco-Roman Team

    USA four times during his competitive career,

    placing second in the World Team Trials in 2001,

    and third in 1994, 1995 and 1997. He was sec-

    ond at the U.S. Nationals twice during his career.

    Wilson also won a bronze medal at the 1998 Pan

    American Championships and was fifth in the

    1996 World Cup.

    He competed for the U.S. Marines for nine years

    and the U.S. Army for five years during his

    career. He was third in the 1991 World Military

    Championships in freestyle, and was a medalist

    at the Armed Forces Championships a number of

    times.Wilson has also competed in No-Gi Grappling

    and Mixed Martial Arts during his competitive

    career.

    He attended the Univ of Oklahoma for two years

    under coach Jack Spates, and was a starter on

    the varsity team. Wilson is originally from

    Manassas, Va., where he was third in the state

    for Stonewall Jackson High School.

    Fraser joined USA

    Wrestling as the

    National Greco-Roman

    Coach in October 1995.

    Fraser led the U.S. to its

    only team title in World

    Championships history

    when the Americans

    captured the title in

    2007 in Baku,

    Azerbaijan. Brad Vering

    (silver), Harry Lester

    (bronze) and Dremiel Byers (bronze) each won

    medals as the U.S. egded Russia by one point for

    the team title.

    Fraser also was in the corner when Rulon

    Gardner shocked the World by knocking off three-

    time Olympic champion Alexander Karelin in the

    2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Karelin

    was unbeaten in international competition before

    suffering a loss to Gardner in the Olympic finals.

    Gardner also won an Olympic bronze medal in

    2004 in Athens, Greece.

    Fraser coached Gardner to a World title in 2001,

    and also helped guide Dremiel Byers (2002) and

    Joe Warren (2006) to World titles.

    Fraser won a gold medal for the U.S. at the 1984

    Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He became the

    first U.S. wrestler to win an Olympic title in Greco-Roman wrestling. He beat three-time World cham-

    pion Frank Andersson of Sweden en route to win-

    ning his Olympic title.

    He also was a member of the 1979 and 1982 U.S.

    World Teams. He won a gold medal at the 1983

    Pan American Games.

    Fraser was inducted into the National Wrestling

    Hall of Fame in 1994.

    He was named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Year

    in 1984, and was a finalist for the James E.

    Sullivan Award that year.

    He was a two-time All-American for the University

    of Michigan. He earned a bachelors degree in

    physical education in 1980.

    He was a Michigan state high school champion

    for Hazel Park High School.

    Fraser was an assistant coach at the University ofMichigan from 1980-87, and at Eastern Michigan

    from 1987-93. He also coached the Michigan

    Wrestling Club for 10 years.

    He has three children, Kellen, Kerrin and Hannah.

    Petkovic helped guidethe U.S. to its first World Championships team

    title in American history in 2007 in Baku,

    Azerbaijan. Two of the U.S. wrestlers Petkovic

    worked closely with - Brad Vering (second) and

    Lindsey Durlacher (fifth) - turned in key perform-

    ances that led to that historic team victory.

    He also coached Joe Warren to a World title in

    2006 in Guangzhou, China, and coached Adam

    Wheeler to an Olympic bronze medal in 2008 in

    Beijing, China.

    Petkovic was a 1976 Olympic gold medalist in

    Greco-Roman wrestling, competing for the former

    Yugoslavia. He also claimed three World silver

    medals in 1978, 1979 and 1981, and a World

    bronze medal in 1977.

    Petkovic placed fourth at the 1984 Olympic

    Games in Los Angeles. He wrestled international-ly in Greco-Roman from 1970-84.

    He came to the United States in 1986. He served

    as a club coach for the New York Athletic Club for

    six years.

    He was a member of the 2000 U.S. Greco-

    Roman Olympic Team coaching staff, as well as

    the 2001 U.S. Greco-Roman World Team coach-

    ing staff. The U.S. placed third at both competi-

    tions.

    Petkovic also assisted at the 1988 U.S. Olympic

    Training Camp in Big Bear, Calif., and also

    helped prepare the 1991 U.S. Greco-Roman

    World Team.

    Petkovic and his wife have one son, Sasha, and

    one daughter, Irona.

    Hermann has recently

    been named the head

    coach for USA

    Wrestling's Greco-

    Roman program at the

    U.S. Olympic Education

    Center at Northern

    Michigan University. He

    will officially assume his

    duties at Northern

    Michigan on August 16.

    Hermann served as thehead coach of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, which

    won three silver medals at the Atlanta Olympic

    Games. Capturing silver medals were Brandon

    Paulson (52 kg), Dennis Hall (57 kg) and Matt

    Ghaffari (130 kg). He was also the assistant

    coach of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team, which won

    three medals in the Sydney Olympic Games,

    including Olympic champion Rulon Gardner (130

    kg), silver medalist Matt Lindland (76 kg) and

    bronze medalist Garrett Lowney (97 kg).

    He was also head coach of the 1993 U.S. World

    Team, which was 14th at the World

    Championships. Hermann also was an assistant

    coach with the 1994 and 1997 U.S. World Teams.

    He was the head coach of the 1995 Pan

    American Games team which placed second.

    Hermann also served as head coach of the 1990Pan American Championships team and the 1992

    World Cup team. He was also coach of the 1991

    and 1995 U.S. CISM World Military teams.

    Since 1983, he has served the head coach of the

    All-Navy team, where he has developed a number

    of nationally ranked athletes. Among the athletes

    he worked with was 2008 Olympic bronze medal-

    ist Adam Wheeler.

    He was named USA Wrestling Greco-Roman

    Coach of the Year in both 1992 and 1996.

    Hermann is a gold certified coach with USA

    Wrestlings National Coaches Education Program,

    the highest level of achievement.

    As an athlete, Hermann competed on three U.S.

    World teams and won a bronze medal at the 1983

    Pan American Games. He won four U.S. Senior

    national titles, and competed in five World Cups.During his career, Hermann was a CISM World

    Military champion, and captured 11 Armed Forces

    titles. He was named 1984 and 1992 Navy Athlete

    of the Year. Hermann was a 12-time All-Navy

    Wrestling champion. He hails from Crystal River,

    Fla., where he was a 1976 Florida state high

    school champion...

    Hicks serves as the

    head coach of the U.S.

    Marine Corps wrestling

    team, which is sta-

    tioned in Camp

    LeJeune, N.C. He has

    served as head coach

    of the All-Marine

    wrestling team since

    2004.

    Hicks has coached a

    number of Greco-

    Roman Team USA members during his years as

    the coach of the U.S. Marine Corps. His teams

    have placed second in the Armed Forces

    Championships every year since 2004.

    He also served as a coach for the 2007 Pan

    American Games team, which competed in Rio

    de Janiero, Brazil. The U.S. won six medals,

    including gold medals from Harry Lester, Brad

    Vering and Justin Ruiz. Hicks was also a member

    of the 2006 U.S. Greco-Roman World Team

    coaching staff.

    Hicks has served as assistant coach for the U.S.

    CISM World Military Championships team three

    times. He coached the 2007 U.S. CISM team

    which competed in the CISM Games in

    Hyderabad, India. He also coached the 2008 U.S.

    CISM team which competed in Split, Croatia. Heis also coaching the 2010 U.S. CISM team which

    is competing in Lahti, Finland in mid-August.

    He has coached numerous U.S. teams in interna-

    tional competition, leading teams which have

    competed in Sweden, Finland, France, Poland,

    Serbia and Greece.

    Hicks holds a rank of Major with the U.S. Marine

    Corps. He has served overseas with the U.S.

    Marine Corps fleet during his military career.

    As an athlete, Hicks was a successful internation-

    al wrestler competing for the U.S. Marine Corps.

    He qualified for five Greco-Roman national

    teams, and was second in the 1998 World Team

    Trials. He was a placewinner in the U.S. Olympic

    Team Trials three times (1996, 2000, 2004).

    Hicks was second in the 1999 U.S. Senior

    Nationals, and placed third in the national cham-pionships three times (1997, 2002, 2004). He

    was a 1996 World Cup bronze medalist.

    Hicks was a five-time Armed Forces Greco-

    Roman champion during his career. In 2000, he

    won a bronze medal at the CISM Military World

    Championships, and in 1999, he placed fourth in

    the CISM Military World Games...
