Dear Friends,
Since 1989, EVYP has been providing high-level programming that prepares students for success
through college and into a career. This year, we are excited to continue our work with over 330
students through college planning, tutoring, parent workshops, and college scholarships.
We want to thank you for the generosity and support you have shown EVYP throughout the
years. As we continue to grow our programs in the Avondale community, we want to recognize
the critical role you play in our ongoing success.
Please review this report for a brief overview of the past year. On behalf of EVYP’s students,
families, staff and board, a resounding thank you for all that you do.
We hope you have a healthy and happy 2013!

The core high school program is for students
enrolled in grades 9-12. Program offerings
include college-readiness workshops and
academic support. Participation qualifies
students to receive a college scholarship.
college pRogRAM
Students from our core high school program
continue to receive support once they
enroll in college. Participants receive
individualized academic counseling and
attend workshops focused on career
development.
tutoRing
College-educated volunteers help
elementary and high school students with
homework and academic enrichment on
a weekly basis. Tutors serve as positive role
models for our students.
pARent pARticipAtion
Family support is a critical element in
student success. EVYP offers parents the
tools necessary to become involved in their
child’s education. Parents are required
to attend orientation at the beginning
of the school year. In addition, various
informational workshops are offered
throughout the year. Topics covered include
how to help your child with homework,
financial aid, and how to make the most of
high school.
EVYP maintains contact with parents
through regular phone calls, monthly
newsletters, and semester progress reports.
In addition, parents volunteer to help plan
family parties, field trips, and fundraisers.
coMMunitY outReAch Delivered in partnership with neighborhood
schools, we provide free workshops to help
prepare students for the transition to high
school, along with college and career
planning.

As of December 2012, we are
thrilled to announce that two of
our current seniors have been
selected as Posse Scholars, with a third as a finalist.
Additionally, four of our
students were selected to
participate in Chicago Scholars.
YeSeniA is a senior in a Chicago
Public School. With the help of EVYP,
she has been selected to attend
DePauw University with a full-tuition
scholarship from the Posse Foundation.
Inspired by her participation in East
Village, Yesenia hopes to one day
help prepare high school students
for a college education through
educational counseling.
“EVYP has been a second home for
me in the last few years. I feel great
encouragement once I step in the
doors every week.”
[ 9 ]
EVYP currently serves 55 college students attending public, private, and
community colleges.
EVYP students graduate from college and
go on to gainful employment or graduate
studies.
This year, two college freshmen received full-
tuition scholarships to Lake Forest College as
part of their Chicago Public School Scholarship program.
Another graduating senior was selected
as the 2012 Sid Feldman Legacy Fund Scholar at DePaul University.
We are also proud that two of our 2012
college graduates are now working in
public high schools in Chicago.
