The Chicago Fire Soccer Club and the Chicago Fire Foundation have made a deep impact in the community for more than a decade.

Throughout the 2011 season the Chicago Fire Foundation maintained its leadership role in the Chicagoland community. This year was a monumental one, as we continued to grow our relationships with our charity partners and awarded our largest grant to date – $100,000 to Urban Initiatives. Urban Initiatives is a non-profit organization that runs a health and education soccer program in the Chicago Public Schools. With our support, Urban Initiatives was able to expand to four new schools, reaching more than 140 additional students. We view this partnership as a genuine opportunity to use the size and scope of the sport of soccer to affect the community around us.

Additionally, we were excited to take part in the citywide Take The Field initiative, as we joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Pritzker Traubert Family Foundation to celebrate the grand opening of the Chicago Fire Soccer Club Field at Pasteur Park in the West Lawn neighborhood on Chicago’s Southside. The Take The Field initiative joins public and private resources to build 10 artificial turf athletic fields throughout the City of Chicago over the next three years. Our sport and our community intersect on so many levels and we hope the 650,000 youth and adults who currently play soccer in the Chicago land area will have a chance to experience this new field.

Part of the Chicago Fire Foundation’s ability to enrich lives in Chicagoland is because of the countless hours our players spend on community outreach efforts. Each year many of our supporters, sponsors and front office staff also contribute to our programs, for which we are grateful. The club’s Kicks for Kids program is a prime example of the impact the organization has had on Chicago-area youth. Kicks for Kids enables underprivileged children the opportunity to experience the excitement of a Fire game at TOYOTA PARK. Throughout the 2011 season, more than 8,000 children benefited from the program. For many of these children this is the first experience they have had to see a professional soccer game.

As we look to 2012 and beyond, Fire fans can count on our unwavering commitment to winning championships, as well as our dedication to supporting the Chicago community through the efforts of the Chicago Fire Foundation.

On behalf of everyone associated with the Chicago Fire Soccer Club and all those who benefit from your generous commitment – we extend a heartfelt thank you.

Sincerely,

Andrew Hauptman, Owner

Throughout the 2011 season, more than 8,000 children benefited from the program. For many of these children this is the first experience they have had to see a professional soccer game.

TAKE THE FIELD INITIATIVE

URBAN INITIATIVESThe Foundation partners with Urban Initiatives, a non-profit organization that runs a health and education soccer program in the Chicago Public Schools. By actively engaging participants in extracurricular activities at a young age, Urban Initiatives empowers youth to live a healthy lifestyle, value education, and enhance their personal and social development.

In 2011, the Chicago Fire Foundation awarded the largest grant in Foundation history with a grant of $100,000 to Urban Initiatives. With these additional funds, Urban Initiatives was able to expand their program to four new schools, reaching an additional 140 students.

On Saturday, November 5, the Chicago Fire Soccer Club joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Park District, the Pritzker Traubert Family Foundation, U.S. Soccer Foundation and hundreds of Chicago area children to celebrate the grand opening of the Chicago Fire Soccer Club Field at Pasteur Park. Take the Field initiative joins public and private resources to build ten artificial turf athletic fields over the next three years throughout the City of Chicago.

Each field will feature an all-weather surface and lighting that will allow the field to be used nine months out of the year. At least three of the fields will be lined for both soccer and football. Thanks, to its partners, to date, $7.9 million has been dedicated to the program.

AMERICA SCORES CHICAGO

The Foundation partners with America SCORES Chicago, whose mission is to empower students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression and service learning. The Foundation is pleased to partner with America SCORES Chicago to help grow the sport of soccer by providing children in underserved communities the opportunity to experience the beautiful game.

Fire midfielder Michael Videira sits on the Junior Board for America SCORES Chicago and has been involved with many of their initiatives.

COMMON THREADS

In partnership with Common Threads, several Fire players have participated in cooking classes and summer camps that aim to educate children on the importance of good nutrition and physical well-being, and to foster an appreciation of cultural diversity through cooking.

The Foundation’s involvement in various soccer clinics throughout the year help highlight and teach children the importance of physical activity.

ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

As a part of the MLS W.O.R.K.S. Soccer Kicks Cancer campaign, Chicago Fire captain Logan Pause visited St. Jude as one of four MLS ambassadors. While at St. Jude, the MLS ambassadors toured the hospital and met with patients and doctors.

St. Jude also had a presence at the September 25th Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution game. A group of St. Jude volunteers sold 50/50 Raffle tickets to raise money, and a patient from St. Jude took part in the ceremonial coin toss.

CHILDREN’S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Children’s Memorial Hospital is Illinois’ only freestanding hospital exclusively for kids. Ranked #1 in almost every major pediatric specialty, they provide superior pediatric healthcare in a compassionate, family-centered environment.

Like Children’s Memorial Hospital, the Chicago Fire Foundation is also dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children. CFF continues to support the hospital through contributions and visits. Chicago Fire defender Steven Kinney has donated much of his time to Children’s Memorial Hospital, leading weekly Bingo games and visiting with patients.

LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is an organization with a mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund their mission.

In 2011, the Chicago Fire Foundation partnered with the LLS for their Soccer Kicks for Cancer program. Youth soccer players solicited pledges for every time the player touched a soccer ball over a ten-day period, with the goal of 2,000 touches. In support of LLS’ great cause and their alignment with the values of the Foundation, CFF gave over $12,000 in 2011.

KICKS FOR KIDS

The Kicks for Kids program enables individuals to support underprivileged children by giving them the opportunity to experience the excitement of a Chicago Fire game at TOYOTA PARK. Throughout the 2011 season, children from nearly 40 local youth-based organizations were provided this opportunity.

For the eighth year in a row, the Chicago Fire Foundation celebrated “Kicks for Kids Night”. On Wednesday, June 22 and Thursday, August 18, the Chicago Fire teamed up with local contributors and business, affording more than 8,000 underprivileged children from the Chicago land area the opportunity to take in the Chicago Fire game. For many of the children, this was their first time experiencing a Major League Soccer game.

The Chicago Fire and the Chicago Fire Foundation, in conjunction with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, participated in the Passback Program. The Passback Program allows individuals to donate new or gently used soccer equipment, which is then passed back to youth soccer programs in the community. At the August 27th Fire vs. Colorado Rapids game, the Chicago Fire Foundation held a Passback drive, collecting over 3,000 pieces of equipment.
