Dr. Maureen Anderson (DVM) Strangles continues to be a hot topic in southwestern Ontario. Whether it's really because of increased numbers of cases this year or just more talk (especially on the internet) isn't clear, but there are many questions, concerns and misconceptions regarding this disease and, the bacterium that causes it. Eastern and Western Encephalitis Virus Dr. Daniel G. Kenney (DVM) The first Ontario case of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) of 2010 has been identified in a horse in Simcoe County. This mosquito-borne disease tends to be identified in a few horses every year in Ontario in the fall. This case should be taken as an indication that EEE is active in at least some parts of the province. LUNCH Equine Massage and Complementary Healthcare Debra Pearse-Lappano (Certified Equine Massage Therapist) Join us for a brief overview of Massage, Reiki and Acupressure as Holistic healthcare. This will include the benefits as treatment, prevention and maintenance. This Complementary Healthcare is meant to work with the Veterinary community, not replace a Vet’s care. Equine Neurology (Myelogram) Dr. Bruce Watt (DVM) and Dr. Andrea Finnen (DVM, DES) A Myelogram is a diagnostic tool used to determine cord compression in the potential surgical candidate. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia; it involves an injection of an iodine based fluid into the spinal canal and is viewed by radiographs to assess the health of the spinal cord. Equine Physiotherapy Peter Burn, Registered Physiotherapist Horses are amazing athletes but like human athletes they can tweak and strain muscles during their work and then require physiotherapy. Physiotherapy can help promote the healing of these injuries and speed the recovery times. Even if you don’t have a specific injury or trauma it is good practice to have your horse routinely checked. This means that small problems can be detected early and prevented from developing into more serious issues. 2011 7 CENTRAL ONTARIO AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE CROPS / HORSES FRIDAY JANUARY CROPS 9:30 AM TO 10:20 AM ROOM A ROOM B ROOM C ROOM D Market Outlook 2011 Will Corn Reach $7.50/bushel?
