On November 11, 2010 the Sun City Festival

Mens Golf Group conducted their Annual Veter-ans Day Tournament with over 72 participants.

Local businesses supported the tournament with

a number of great prizes. This generosity along

with the golf participants allowed the Mens Golf

Group to raise over $1,125 to support our troops

through the local Phoenix USO Chapter. On De-

cember 7, 2010 the Mens Golf Group presented

the check to Ms. Ann Theodosis, Director of the

Phoenix Chapter of United Services Organization

(USO). These funds are earmarked to support

the new USO Welcome Center at Sky Harbor

International Airport, where out troops can relaxin comfort while awaiting ights to their new duty

assignments. Great job Mens Golf Group!

After years of coming to Arizona for Spring Training games,

Chrystal talked her husband, John, into visiting with the ideaof moving from the Seattle area. After looking at the DelWebb communities on the internet, they arrived in August2007 to see if they could stand the heat. They arrived in May2008 (after nding their new home in March) to continue theirlives in the Valley of the Sun.

hn is a retired manufacturing engineer from Boeing and Chrystal continues working virtuallyth her clients in the State of Washington. Leaving the gray rain and unreasonably cold weatheras not a hard decision.

hey have been married 36+ years and believe it is amazing that spending so much timegether has left no one maimed for life! Chrystal loves to read and is the organizer of recordr the Sun City Festival Singers. John enjoys golf and photography and both enjoy traveling,

nd are looking forward to a return trip to Japan. They both love most sports (particularlyaseball), walking, working out at the Sage Fitness Center, and sharing time with new friends.

Visits to Arizona led to a move from Seattle.

    Chrystal & John Weinberg

    et Past The Plateau

e you reached a tness plateau? If you continue to exercise and seem to

little or no results, maybe you have reached a plateau. A plateau is onlyural. Consider the body as a stimulus-response mechanism. The stimu-of exercise creates the response of tness. The body will respond to the

me stimulus only so much. In order to get more response (greater tness

stimulus (exercise) needs to be changed or increased. This can be accom-hed with some easy steps.

REASE THE INTENSITY - In the case of cardiovascular exercise, thisans going faster or increasing resistance. Try adding a little more speed orne while on the treadmill. For the stationary bike or the elliptical

chine, increase the speed (pedal faster) or increase the resistance level thechine provides. These tricks make the body work harder, increasing the ex-se stimulus. Another way to accomplish this is with interval training. Duringsession of aerobic exercise, alternate periods harder and easier effort, by

ng even work and rest periods (2 minutes work, 2 minutes rest), or any other combination of work and rest.weight training, its as simple as adding the amount of weight lif ted such as ve pounds on two or three

rcises. Chances are pretty good the same number of sets and repetitions will still be completed. However,re effort will be required.

MP UP THE VOLUME - This is as simple as doing more exercise. Guidelines for aerobic exercise are mosts of the week and 40-60 minutes each time. Adding an additional day of exercise can work wonders foraking a tness plateau. Or, simply add more time to each exercise session like ve or ten minutes. With

ght training, add one or two additional exercises to get greater results. A preferred method is to increaseexercises done with the large muscles-legs, back or chest. Doing additional sets on current exercises can

o bring additional benets and challenge to the body.

Y SOMETHING NEW - Doing the same exercise eventually yields fewer or no results. Try switching from theadmill to the elliptical trainer or from a stationary bike to the treadmill. While using the same muscles, thischange how the body works and create more of a challenge. Switch weight exercises from machines to

mbbells or vice-versa. Try some body-weight exercises (push-ups, dips, pull-ups) instead of using resistanceices. Any shift in how exercise is performed changes the stimulus and thus the response of the body.

en the exercise no longer seems to provide any benet, you may be at a tness plateau. The body has now

pted to the challenge of exercise. A plateau is easily passed by changing exercise intensity, volume or type.s, any exercise can be modied to provide additional challenge and benet. Not only can you get past a

eau, exercise will now become new, different and challenging when changes are included.
