    FISHING REGULATIONS

    FISHING Gigging, snagging and bowshing is

    now allowed on all trout streams ex-cept or the Cumberland River rom

    Wol Creek Dam to the ennesseestate line. Tis includes HatcheryCreek and all other tributaries o thissection o the Cumberland River or1/2 mile upstream o their confu-ence with the Cumberland River. Itis still illegal to gig, snag or bowshor trout. Please see the sections ongigging and snagging (page 16) andbowshing (page 17).

    Barkley Lake: Te daily creel limit oncrappie is now 20 sh per day.

    Cave Run Lake: An 18-inch mini-mum size limit on smallmouth bass.

    Cedar Creek Lake (Lincoln County):Te 9-inch minimum size limit oncrappie is now removed. (30 shdaily creel limit remains.) Blue-

    gill and redear sunsh now understatewide regulations or minimumsize and daily creel limits. A 12-inchminimum size limit and no daily creel

    limit on channel catsh. Dix River rom Herrington Lake Dam

    downstream or two miles: Browntrout now under statewide regulationsor minimum size and daily creel limits.

    Doe Run Lake (Kenton County):Possession or use o shad or bait isprohibited. A 15-inch minimum sizelimit with a 3 sh daily creel limiton largemouth bass. A 4 sh dailycreel limit on channel catsh with nominimum size limit.

    Fishpond Lake: (Letcher County): Boatswith electric (trolling) motors only arenow allowed on Fishpond Lake.

    General Butler State Park Lake (Car-roll County): Possession or use oshad or bait is prohibited. A 15-inchminimum size limit on largemouthbass with a 3 sh daily creel limit.

    A 4 sh daily creel limit on channelcatsh with no minimum size limit.

    Kentucky Lake: A 20 sh daily creellimit on crappie.

    Lake Blythe (Christian County):

    Tere is a now a 12 to 15-inch prottive slot limit on largemouth bass. largemouth bass caught between 1and 15 inches must be immediately

Cmmercial shing gear may ntbe used t take turtles. A hunting licenseis required when taking turtles by gun rby bw and arrw. Otherwise a shinglicense is required.

    with an enclsed twine r wire meshbag. urtle traps must be inspected daily.All turtles must be remved daily except

    ne decy turtle may remain. Any therspecies (except st shelled and snappingturtles) caught in a turtle trap must bereleased unharmed.

    GRASS CARP HARVESTPROHIBITED(301 KAR 1:201)

    Harvesting grass carp is prhib-ited in any lake wned r managed bythe Kentucky Department Fish and

    Wildlie Resurces. Anglers wh catch agrass carp rm ne these lakes mustimmediately return the sh t the water

    where it was caught. Grass carp are usedt cntrl aquatic vegetatin. Signs arepsted at applicable lakes.

    LIVE BAIT FOR PERSONAL USE(301 KAR 1:130, 1:122)

    N live sh, live bait sh r livebait rganisms that are nt native restablished in Kentucky waters shall bebught, sld, pssessed, imprted, r inany way used r released int waters

    this Cmmnwealth. Blueback herringare nt native t Kentucky and may ntbe imprted r pssessed in this state.

    Hlders sprt shing licensesmay take live bait rm public watersand may pssess up t 500 minnws, 500

    craysh, 25 spring lizards r dusky sala-manders, 5 rgs (ther than bullrgs),100 tadples, 100 native lampreys, 500ther aquatic invertebrate rganismsther than mussels, 500 shad (except nlakes where shad pssessin/use is pr-hibited), 500 herring and any number unshelled Asiatic clams. A cmmerciallicense is required t take live bait rmpublic waters pen t cmmercial sh-ing r the purpse selling.

    Live bait may be taken with the l-lwing gear: Dip Nets: Maximum size 3 eet in

    diameter is legal in the Ohi, ennes-see and Mississippi rivers, CumberlandRiver belw Barkley Dam, KentuckyRiver belw Lck N. 14, and all lakeshaving 1,000 r mre surace acres.

    Minnow raps: Maximum legal sizestatewide: 3 eet lng, 18 inches in di-ameter, 1-inch penings r catching.

    Seines: Maximum legal size statewide:10 eet lng, 4 eet deep, 1/4-inchmesh. Maximum legal size in the Ohiand Mississippi rivers and Kentuckyand Barkley lakes: 30 eet lng, 6 eet

    deep and 1/4-inch bar mesh. Sport Cast Nets: Maximum sprt cast

    net size is 20 eet in diameter withmaximum 1-inch bar mesh statewideexcept in the llwing waters. Sprtcast nets prhibited in: 1) lakes havingewer than 500 surace acres, 2) any the streams and tailwaters listed in therut Waters sectin this guide,3) tributaries the Cumberland Riv-er between Wl Creek Dam and the

    Q:May I sh around a dock ora marina?

    A: It depends. Public marinason U.S. Army Corps o Engineers

    Lakes have contractual agreements

    that address lease space on public

    waters. The Corps presently allows

    the marina owners or operators to

    post signs that prohibit shing within

    150 eet o their foating structures.

    These agreements do not prohibit

    a person rom shing in their boat

    rental slip. This policy does not apply

    to privately owned boat docks on

    Corps lakes.

    A sprt shing trtline is a linewith n mre than 50 single r multi-barbed baited hks that must be at least18 inches apart. A sprt shing trtlinemust be set at least three eet belw the

    waters surace. Jugging is shing with asingle baited line attached t any at-

    ing bject. A jug line may have n mrethan ne single r multi-barbed hk. Aset line is a line with ne single r multibarbed hk. It may be attached t a treelimb, tree trunk, bank ple r ther sta-tinary bject n the bank a stream rimpundment.

    One persn may use n mre thantw sprt shing trtlines r 50 jug lines(per bat) r 25 set lines at any ne time.Each sprt shing trtline, jug line r setline must be: 1) permanently labeled

    with the name and address the user;

    2) baited, checked and all sh remvedat least nce every 24 hurs; 3) removedrm water, bank r tree when shingceases.

    the bank. Snagging is nt legal rm abat. Gigging is legal rm a bat nlyn lakes 500 surace acres r larger andnly during daylight hurs.

    Gigging and snagging are nt legalrm a platrm r within 200 yards adam, except belw Kentucky Dam. Oth-

    erwise, gigging/snagging is permittedday r night in all prtins lakes andstreams pen t these methds (reer tprhibited areas belw).

    Tere is a statewide limit o 2 pad-dlefsh or either gigging or snagging,except in the Lake Barkley tailwater(Cumberland River) and in the Ken-tucky Lake tailwater (ennessee River)up to 8 paddlefsh may be taken daily.Snagging anglers must cease snaggingonce they attain the two fsh daily creel
