    Ten Phoenix College student athletes earned

    National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)

    Academic All-American honors in 2010-2011 with

    a GPA o 36 or higher In Fall 2010, 97 student

    athletes achieved a 30 or better GPA

    Five PC athletic teams were designated NJCAA

    Academic All-American Teams, with a team grade

    point average o at least 30

    The PC Mens Basketball team took rst place in

    the Region 1 Championship, placing in the top ten

    nationally During 2010-2011, 47 Phoenix College student

    athletes signed on to continue their athletic and

    academic pursuits at the university level

    2011 Coaching Staf

    Christopher Sagar

    Head Coach

    Chris Sagar enters his fth

    year as the head coach at

    Phoenix College. Sagar

    took over the program in

    2007 ater spending fve

    years as the assistant/

    goalkeeper coach or the

    Bears. In his our years at the helm he has amassed

    a 43-30-6 record, fnished all our years in the top

    our o the ACCAC, and made appearances in one

    championship game and three semi-fnals in theNJCAA Region 1 Tournament.

    The 2009 edition with a 12-8-1 record had the

    best fnish in the history o the program ending

    as runners-up in the NJCAA region 1 Tournament.

    In 2008, the team fnished with a 13-6-1 record.

    In doing so they broke the school records or

    most wins in a season, most consecutive wins in

    a season (a stretch o 8), and most goals scored

    in a season (51). They also scored in 20 o their 21

    matches.Sagars teams have been named NJCAA Academic

    All-American Teams or the past our years

    running. In that time 7 bears have also received

    individual Academic All-American Honors. Sagar

    has produced 16 ACCAC All-Conerence Players

    including the 2010 ACCAC Player o the Year, Kaila

    Cameli (1st JC transer at University o Portland).

    He has also moved 25 other players on to our-year

    institutions in that time.

    Sagar also currently serves as a Sta Coach andGoalkeeping Director or the Phoenix Rush Soccer

    Club. There he is responsible or the technical

    and tactical development o competitive youth

    teams as well as the implementation o a program

    o education and instruction or the clubs

    goalkeepers.

    He has been involved in coaching youth soccer

    here in the valley or the past fteen years, was

    the ormer Director o Goalkeeping or the State

    o Arizona Olympic Development Program andalso spent some time as the Head Coach o the

    Fort Collins Force, an amateur team competing in

    the W-League. There he led a team comprised o

    both current and ormer players rom some o the

    nations top collegiate soccer programs.

    His ormer college experience included a stint as

    an Assistant Womens Soccer Coach at Arizona

    State University in 2000. There he helped the

    young program to its most successul season to

    date (14-7-1) and to round two o the Division I

    NCAA Playos. Additionally, he led the varsity boys

    Prescott High School team to Desert Sky titles in

    1997-98 and 1998-99 and the state semi fnals each

    year amassing a 33-6 record. Sagar was named the

    Regions Coach o the Year or the 1998-99 season.

    A native o Trinidad and Tobago, Sagar represented

    his country at the U-19 and U-23 (Olympic)

    levels playing in the Junior World Cup qualiying

    tournament in Guatemala 1988 and in CONCACAF

    qualiying rounds or the 1992 Olympic Games in

    Barcelona.

    Sagar won a National Championship with Yavapai

    College in 1992 and earned the distinction o being

    named Most Valuable Goalkeeper at the National

    Tournament in both 1991 and 1992. In 1999, he

    received Honorable Mention on the NJCAA All

    Century Team. He fnished his college career at

    the University o Wisconsin-Parkside. There as

    captain, he led his team to its frst ever NCAA post

    season appearance. He still currently holds the

    NCAA II National Record or Lowest Goals Against

    in a career (0.32goals/game). He received the

    Arthur Ashe Jr. Award or excellence in Academics

    and Sport and was inducted to the University o

    Wisconsin-Parkside Athletic Hall O Fame in 2001.

    He and his wie Cara currently reside in Scottsdale.

    Angela GomezAssistant Coach

    Angela Gomez is a 2006 Phoenix College graduate,

    who returns or a second stint as an assistant

    coach or the women soccer program. She will be

    involved in all phases o the preparation or the

    team both on and o the feld.

    Jonathan Callahan

    Assistant CoachJonathan is a Phoenix native and returns hom ater

    completing his Masters Degree at Texas Christian

    University in order join the PC coaching sta. He

    will work primarily with the goalkeepers.

    Lisa Ruiz-Gonzales, MS,

    ATC, AT/L is Phoenix

    Colleges Head Athletic

    Trainer and an Assistant

    Athletic Director. This is her sixth year as Head

    Athletic Trainer or Phoenix College. She received

    her B.S. in Exercise Science rom Arizona State

    University and her M.S. in Sports Health Care rom

    Arizona School o Health Sciences. She has been

    a part o the Phoenix College amily and athletic

    training sta since 1999, initially starting as an

    athletic training student while attending ASU and

    continuing through as a graduate assistant while

    completing her masters degree at ASHS. Lisa is a

    certifed member o the National Athletic Trainers

    Association (NATA), Rocky Mountain Athletic

    Trainers Association, Arizona Community Colleges

    currently licensed by the Arizona Board o AthleticTrainers. Lisa and her husband Emmett currently
