Dear Friends,Each year through its programs, Adventure Unlimited (A/U) energetically engages more than 5,000 Christian Scientists of all ages, especially young people, in activities that inspire thought, help overcome limitations, build friendships and impel growth in the understanding of Christian Science. We strive to put Christian Science into action thereby meeting the practical needs of those we serve and solidifying the movement.Humbled and directed by our current metaphysical theme, A/U continues to expand its horizons and is endeavoring to benefit the community at large. With the help of our strategic partners, A/U is actively serving mankind and providing an atmosphere of healing. Our youth, young adults and families are the future. We invite you to join us in our mission of “Opening Windows to God” for all these spiritual seekers. Read the pages that follow for proof of the blessings and growth that are unfolding and how specifically you can help.

With love and gratitude, Anabeth Hormel Cox Chairman, Board of Trustees

Healing in Action Gina Lindquist, Executive DirectorAs we reflect on God’s bounty and provision, we are exceedingly grateful for the ways in which we’ve found greater opportunities to bless, whether that has been through countless hours of community service in the National Leadership Council (NLC), or the ability for families and friends to experience Christian Science in action at Youth and Family Camp, adult programs and DiscoveryBound activities. These blessings have also come through a year full of life changing experiences, significant healings and the sharing of Christian Science principles, whether at the A/U Ranches or DiscoveryBound events.Countless pages of fruitage gathered at our various programs from young people, in particular, have been challenged and subsequently inspired to put newfound spiritual understanding into practice. As one participant shared, “The biggest insight I received from this weekend was a renewed desire to heal…to really ‘live it.‘ ” Thank you for being a part of this important effort. We look forward to continuing our relationship with you.

“Let your light shine”Our spiritually rich Summer Youth programs nurtured this metaphysical theme resulting in many demonstrations including several significant physical healings (see back cover for additional details).

Program EnhancementsOne of the highlights of each session has been the Rodeo for the Round-Up and Sky Valley corral campers. This activity provides a focus for staff instruction and camper skill development throughout the session. Building on this model, this summer we created two new culminating program activities for Sky Valley campers:

• Mountain Madness Triathlon- teams were made up of campers from Explorers, Mountaineers and Challengers with each person taking part in one leg of the race – climbing in the rock gym, running or completing the low ropes course. The event provided a new focus for mountain program campers and staff, as well as the opportunity for parents to see their children demonstrating skills learned during camp.

• Water Olympics- created for the Waterfront program campers, this competition included a variety of swimming races and relays in the pool, a canoeing event and a ropes swing competition. This experience gave the campers an ultimate goal to progress toward during their time in the Waterfront program.

Round-Up programs continue to provide campers with the opportunity to move through a progression of skills development with increasing challenge levels.

Leaders-In-Training (LIT) – this year a significant change was made to the LIT program offered at Round-Up. After piloting a 6 ½ week program last summer, we adapted it to a 2-week session that campers participated in as an enhancement to their program major. Twenty campers completed the program and it is a strong model moving forward.

I feel inspired to go home and read the lesson like at camp.

DiscoveryBound – Christian Science in action year round!DiscoveryBound (DB) is the only nationwide program that presents local, regional and national opportunities for Christian Science youth to come together for inspiration, fellowship, service and fun! Our programming is relevant and engaging, due in part to the active involvement of other CS organizations, Chapter Workers and a multitude of volunteers.Local and regional events unite youth, their friends (including non-Christian Scientists), often young adults and families. Such gatherings provide an important infrastructure based on moral standards and a spiritual approach to life.

Some successful events include the annual Jetty Park Family Regional in Florida. Averaging 75 participants, it’s held at a campground offering a variety of activities along the spectacular coastline. A new model of college/teen participants was initiated in San Luis Obispo, California, where they worked with the Cal Poly CS Org familiarizing high school students with the importance of maintaining their spiritual identity in college.

Boston Youth Meeting June 4 - 7, 2011Held during The Mother Church Annual Meeting, teens gained a greater understanding of Mary Baker Eddy along with ideas on how to bring “Church Alive”. Highlights of the weekend included: a question and answer session with TMC Board of Directors, evening events sponsored by TMC Youth, Mother Church organ demonstration, Longyear Museum presentation, small group discussions led by our NLC Class of 2012, a guided tour along the Freedom Trail and Boston Harbor cruise and dance.

Focus on music September 2 - 5, 2011Focus Series events offer teens an inside look at specific fields of interest through informative workshops and inspirational discussions with leaders in related professions who practice Christian Science. Focus on Music in Seattle was for those who enjoy singing, playing an instrument, writing scores/lyrics or just tapping their foot to the beat! They discovered how harmony is not only a part of music, but also their daily lives. Facilitators performed at a concert open to the public that drew 250 attendees!

I am a better leader and a more active thinker because of NLC, and I can’t wait to share Christian Science with the world. — NLC Participant

National Leadership Council (NLC) - Service to Mankind DiscoveryBound‘s NLC is the first national program to emerge in decades for Christian Science youth. It is dedicated to fostering spiritual growth, leadership qualities and a service approach to life.

Over the course of their four years in high school, teen participants are inspired to live Christian Science through active service in church, DiscoveryBound Chapters, at CS Camps, throughout the country and around the world. They exemplify the reference, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16).

NLC leadership training is built on a Biblical model of service to God and mankind. During their adventure expeditions, service trips, and leadership opportunities, they work toward progressive levels of the Congressional Award, established by Congress to recognize initiative, service and achievement in young people.

Since the inception of this program over seven years ago, NLC teens have been inspired to write over 40 articles for the Christian Science periodicals and provided 9,000+ hours of service to over 100 organizations around the world.

NLC Program Results (based on a 2010 survey):

• More than 8 out of 10 teens say they are now more confident sharing Christian Science• Almost 9 out of 10 teens have a better understanding of their relationship to God• 7 out of 10 teens feel the NLC program has made a difference in their leadership with friends

• The top three areas of growth are:

– Stronger students of Christian Science – Want to make a difference in the world – More confident leaders

With everything teens are doing in and out of school and the challenges they face during their high school years, the NLC program is an invaluable support system for them. These opportunities to come together for spiritual inspiration provide a renewed sense of peace and compassion.

We Are Changing Lives—Thanks to You!Thanks to your faithful and consistent support in 2011, we were able to provide programs for 5,000 Christian Scientists of all ages, especially young people, demonstrating Cap Andrew‘s vision of “Opening Windows to God”.

Due to your generosity, over 200 youth were able to attend camp at the A/U Ranches and over 75 attended national DiscoveryBound programs

this year (from as far away as Africa) that may not have had the opportunity due to financial needs.

You have directly impacted the lives of young Christian Scientists and their friends through your generosity. The A/U Camp experience supports a young person’s understanding of Christian Science by witnessing CS in action and healing many problems from homesickness to debilitating fear.

The General Fund supports all programs. We have to raise $941,630 before the end of our fiscal year, January 31, 2012, in order to meet our budget of $3,912,521.

Because of you, a Sky Valley camper, Monica, found the energy, to peak Mt. Columbia at 14,077 feet by turning to God for her strength. And Clara had an immediate healing in the corral by seeing only the good in her horse. During a national DB event a non-Christian Science friend of a participant experienced an instant healing of a headache after turning to a Practitioner. The parent of a DiscoveryBound teen participant commented, “These programs are an oasis that give young people a sense of community and support them in all their daily activities with the practical application of Christian Science.”

A History of Generosity...Recently we took a closer look at the record of contributions given by you, our donors in support of A/U programs. So far this year 36% of the donations have come from donors who have given on a regular basis for 25 years or more! Now that’s a historic record of true generosity, and we are indeed very grateful!

We thank you for your continued support in providing for the spiritual growth of the next generation of young Christian Scientists.

I continue to contribute to A/U to help provide a legacy for the future, in hopes that young people will get even a fraction of the incredible experiences out of the programs that I received

M y wife and I contributed small annual gifts as were able in the early years of our marriage. Fast forward a number of years and I was part of a group of volunteers who met at the

Ranches and developed a list of maintenance and repair items that needed to be done. Why do I give to A/U in these various ways? Our young people are the future of the Christian Science movement, our future leaders of our communities and the world. As each of us have been helped as we travel Love’s grand adventure, now it is our turn to help those who follow us!

Divine Love’s Protection - Always Present

Over the course of this past year, Adventure Unlimited’s program participants and staff have experienced countless demonstrations of

Divine Love’s protection. We are indeed grateful for the growth in humility, safety from harm, and the resulting healings.

I was driving back to camp late in the night after dropping campers off at Denver International Airport. As we approached the top of Kenosha Pass, suddenly a massive shadow appeared in the right half of our lane. It was difficult to see what turned out to be a bull moose. In that potentially terrifying moment I heard a voice say, ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’ I was able to remain calm and remember our safety instructions to: 1) pray 2) don’t make sharp turns. As soon as the moose was hit, immediately another passenger declared ‘God is Love’, which really set the foundation for turning immediately to God. Everyone walked away completely unharmed and no additional accidents resulted. – Wes Fleming & Heather Libbe, A/U Ranches Seasonal Staff

At DiscoveryBound’s recent Focus on Music a female participant lost her wallet and phone at a public venue. Throughout the weekend she held firm to the Truth that nothing is lost and remained expectant. A staff member received a call the last morning of the program–it had been found with the cash in it. Before she boarded the plane home, her wallet and phone were returned. – DiscoveryBound Staff

It was inspiring seeing classmates helping another overcome fear and other forms of mortal mind. One girl was having lots of trouble on the hike. Three of us and a class leader stayed back and supported her the entire way. We shared hymns, healings, thoughts and other forms of inspiration. To witness the girl‘s transformation was truly inspiring and a hike that I will never forget. – NLC Adventure Trip Participant

This summer our NLC Class of 2014 traveled to Moab for part of their Adventure Trip. During the gratitude meeting one evening, I felt a sand flea biting me, later to find out it was the sting of a scorpion. The right side of my body soon went numb. The pain grew stronger and I was unable to focus, so I walked quietly to my bed roll and asked for a full text quarterly. I thought of the spiritual power the kids had expressed earlier. Error had NO chance! The next morning, I awoke with almost no pain. Within an hour we held Church and by the end of the service, I was completely free and all that remained was the truth and a wonderful conclusion to our trip. – James Orlet, Co-Leader NLC 2014
