Conjoint initiative City of Munich, Municipal utility & Business Community

Vision 100 % renewable energy for Munich

The city, municipal utilities and business community are working together for the common good

Main focus of the initiative is the development of urban PV, providing roofs, technical and financial resources

CommitmentCooperation and fair partnership enable the overcoming of existing barriers and the realization of opportunities

Strategic ApproachActivation of all city roofs, suitable for PV

The Solarinitiative particularly cares forPV potentials, that otherwise would remain undeveloped.

Business Area 1: PV Potential AnalysisUnicredit Tucherpark, Munich (ongoing project)

Project: PV potentials analysis

includes analysis of possible solar energy output and estimation of economic effectiveness and profitability

Objective: Determination of PV potentials of all suited objects in the area:

All buildings (roofs) and open spaces are systematically measured and analyzed

Allocation of PV modules (quantity, size, position) for each individual roof; optimal placement of module (shading state & self-cleaning effect)

The economic optimum of per roof/free surface installed capacity determined (maximal energy output)

Business Area 1: PV Potential Analysis Munich city drainage utility (MCD) (project completed)

Scope and Strategy: MCD would like to use all of own available renewable energy potentials, in order to achieve 100% self-sufficiency in renewable energy in the future.

Project: PV potentials analysis

Objective:

How many of the properties are suitable for PV use?

How big is the installable system performance and solar power output?

Which economic efficiency of PV system should be expected? Today / in the future?

Solution:

Detection of the actual state of roof and open space surfaces.

Assessment of PV potentials & determination of solar power yields.

Detailed PV economic evaluation of all roof and free surfaces

PV Potentials Analysis:Solar outputs calculation for Munich

Calibrated potential solar outputs - based on 2500 real data sets of PV plants in Munich. Calculated in relation to the ratio of the modules’ inclination angle and cardinal directions (Source: SWM GmbH)

10

PV Potentials Analysis:PV project prioritization

Listing of all analyzed roofs with their specific PV potentials and important criteria which results in different priority levels of the PV installations: A: best suited; B: well suited; C: less suited;O: Currently unachievable (e.g. renovation outstanding)

PV Potential Analysis:Economic evaluation

-> PV systems still can be build and operated economically, i.e. at well suited southern German roofs. Especially when roof owners invest by themselves and use a share of the PV electricity for their own purposes.

The different lines indicate a pre defined ROI expectation of the buyer in relation to FIT, operating costs and to solar output of the roof.

Upper part: Before Renewable Energy Law change in April 2012

Lower part: After the expected drastic Feed in Tariff cuts (FIT)

X axis: Annual solar output (kWh/kWp)

Y axis: Costs f. buyer per kWpPV output(€)

Business Area 2: PV PlanningSiemens AG: PV on new Corporate Headquarter (ongoing project)

Project: New building of Siemens Headquarter

Requirement: Show case with maximal energy efficiency -> passive house standard

Objective: Providing support for architect, planners and developers in the design of the PV system and its integration into complex building services

Solution:

Participation in planning workshops with architects, engineers and house technicians, organized by Siemens.

Simulation of solar electricity revenues and finding the economic optimum.

Forecast of future profitability of the PV project.

Support for the cost-benefit analysis of different variants of PV systems.

Business Area 2: PV PlanningSüdhausbau: Energy-plus-townhouses line (ongoing project)

Project: The first line of energy-plus-townhouses in Munich with optimal integrated PV system

Objective:

Consulting regarding optimum design of the PV system

Assistance in obtaining the building permission /affirmation

Solution:

Advising the builder-owner and architects in the early planning stages

Development of a comprehensive energy concept

Conceptual development of an optimal PV design with maximum energy efficiency, to achieve the positive energy standards

Negotiations with local Construction Committee for the constructive resolution of legal objections

-> Each house produces ca. 30% more energy than necessary/will be used by tenant (warm water, household electricity & heating)

Project: Green roof and PV construction at the Roof of Augustiner logistics center in Munich-Freiham

Initial situation:Initial intention of Augustiner in 2008 was to install a PV system on the roof of the building. PV project was cancelled after several unsuccessful negotiations with authorities as the valid development plan allowed roof-mounted constructions only at the 10% of the roof surface.

Objective:

Resumption of the project to reassess the licensing situation with reference to the energy transition.

Solution:

Requesting a special permit for the development plan (application for exemption) and construction permit

Mediation and coordination of the system concept with builder-owner, architect and licensing authorities

Business Area 2 + 3: PV Planning & Development Augustiner Bräu: PV plant on green roof (ongoing project)

Page 15: 2012 06-11 intersolar key note final version

15

Business Area 3: PV Project DevelopmentRossius OHG: PV Green Roof Construction (project completed)

Project: Implementation of a PV system on a green roof

Initial situation:

High expectations of the client in terms of recoverable solar yields and potential returns.

Time-critical implementation before the beginning of winter.

Objective:

Independent consultancy, economic evaluation and technical design.

Customer support during all project phases, from static validation, feed-in-tariff/subvention approval to construction supervision.

Customized financing solution with the participation of the general contractor.
