Dollar General Grant• I Choose to Read - $2,000

Worked with Hazelwood/Hill, Gwinn 2nd periods and Osborn English I Repeat classes to select one fiction and one nonfiction title for each student.

Students who read 5 books by end of year could select 2 more books to be purchased.

Difficult to measure progress due to time constraints implementing regular checkout, in-class reading time, and then reorganization of classes that split up original groups of students.

Of the 54 students originally participating, 30 students read 5 or more books by the end of the school year, based on circulation records.

Purchased 192 books total with these funds

During 2nd semester, used remainder of funds to purchase books requested by any student in the school. Lots of requests from McDermid’s English II & IV classes and Styles’s English II classes in particular.
