National Craft Competitionon April 24-27, our apprentices competed against their peers from across the country to win the following awards:
Carpentry Gold medal:David Porter of Wohlsen Construction Company
Plumbing Silver medal:Matt Woodcraft of Haller Enterprises, Inc.
Colton Kreider of Garden Spot Electric, Inc. also turned in an impressive performance.
David & Matt work on their practical tests during the National Craft Competition.
70 new students, along with 112 previous students, learn about the expectations of apprenticeship at orientation.

commissioners about PLAs.
2. Participated in a media event discussing prevailing wage reforms, specifically, a bill aimed at raising the prevailing wage threshold.
3. Met with Department of Labor & Industry and the Lt. Governor about job classifications and apprenticeship.
4. Participated in a forum on healthcare and how the new mandate will impact small businesses.
5. Attended multiple meetings on Unemployment Compensation reform.
6. Worked on the E-Verify bill corrections and additions.
7. Participated in and supported the efforts of the Lawsuit Abuse Coalition Group.
8. Met with representatives of a plumbing association to discuss legislation.
9. Participated in an Economic Roundtable hosted by Congressman Joe Pitts.
10. Attended a “Business Day” with Governor Corbett at the Governor’s Mansion.

Grassroots Committee in Action
Grassroots Gold AwardThe Keystone Chapter received a Gold Award in recognition of our grassroots performance in the year 2011-2012. of the seventy-plus chapters throughout the country, only five other chapters achieved the highest standard. The award measures categories such as a chapter’s grassroots participation, infrastructure, activism with in-
state political activities and volunteer leadership involvement.

Roundtable on July 16 at the Chapter office.
ABC Legislative ConferenceAn important part of LegCon is the visits made to our federal representatives to discuss important issues of our members. This year a group of ABC Keystone members travelled to our nation’s capital to meet with Congressmen Joe Pitts, Todd Platts, Charlie Dent, Pat Meehan, and our new friend, Lou Barletta. The meetings were productive and allowed a good opportunity to interact with our leaders in Washington.

New Activities in 2012:We added another food vendor: DiDough’s. Their soft pretzels and sandwiches were well received. They donated 25% of their income to the event.
The public could climb into the cab and take hold of the controls in a backhoe this year! A qualified “coach” was in the cab with them the entire time.
