THE MOST HOLY TRINITY First Reading: Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40

Moses asks the people if they have ever seen anything as great as the actions of God. He reminds them that there is only one

God and all people must keep his commandments. If the laws of God are kept, his people will prosper all their lives.

Second Reading: Romans 8:14-17 Paul explains that through the Holy Spirit, we become children of God. As heirs of God we must be willing to suffer as Christ was if

we are to share in his glory. Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20

Jesus asks his disciples to go to other nations and teach others all that they have learned. He asks that these new followers be

baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. =================================================

TRINITY SUNDAY

Welcome! New parishioners are asked to register by calling or visiting the parish office or by speaking to one of the parish staff. WHY A CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN SHOULD BE A REGISTERED PARISHIONER The precepts of the Church explained that: we need to belong to a parish (your

parish is the Church in the City where you are domiciled) and to contribute to its support. Everyone should do this (Canon 107). To identify yourself with a worshipping community of faith. Salvation comes to us by God in community. Religion is not meant to be individualistic. Membership in a parish community is the norm. To allow the priest of the parish to know you so that Letters of Recommendation can be given when needed. (Sponsorship/certificates)

God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our

tears that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

The Most Holy Trinity May 27, 2018

“All power in heaven and earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have

commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

As Christians we profess our belief in a creating Father, the redeeming Son and the power animator, the Holy Spirit. We make the sign of the cross as we bless ourselves at prayer, calling upon the Trinity. As faith filled persons we express our belief in this not understandable mystery. Nothing shakes our faith.

But if I really believe, I accept the challenge given to the apostles in Galilee to leave, to make disciples, to baptize and to teach the great commandment of love. The mandate is given to all Christians not only to the ordained or professed religious. At times of graduation, people are commissioned as officers in the military or as police officers, and they joyfully take up their task to which they were called. At the time of our baptism we too were commissioned to continue the mission of Jesus, the mission of the church, which is to bring the good news to a needy world. We meet parishioners who ‘go on mission’ for mercy to Ghana and the Dominican Republic from hospitals or to assist the poor. Did you learn from those who went to Puerto Rico or Florida after the hurricanes, or someone who went to Mexico following the earthquake? The Lord is asking me today to begin living anew, the commission I was given at baptism to go, teach, baptize and observe what I believe is my commission. This is my ‘Great Commission.’ ================================================

Praise the Holy Trinity Some truths, like the very existence of God, can be known by human reason alone other truths, like the fact that God is One in Three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – can only be known if God reveals them to us.

We could never conclude on our own that God is a Trinity. Today’s Feast is not only an opportunity or thanking God for telling us more about himself. It is an occasion to take courage as we strive for deeper unity within the human family. God reveals himself to us in order to make us more like himself – not just as individuals, but as families, nations, and an international community. We grow in unity as we give ourselves away to one another, just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit give themselves to each other completely. ===================================================

PRAYER BEFORE THE MASS (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the sacrament of Your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus

Christ, I come sick to the doctor of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the radiance of eternal light, and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth.

Lord, in your great generosity, heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness. May I receive the bread of angels, the King of kings and Lord of lords, with humble reverence, with the purity and faith, the repentance and love, and the determined purpose that will help to bring me to salvation. May I receive the sacrament of the Lord's Body and Blood, and its reality and power.

Kind God, may I receive the Body of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born from the womb of the Virgin Mary, and so be received into His mystical body and numbered among His members.

Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I now receive Your beloved Son under the veil of a sacrament, may I one day see him face to face in glory, who lives and reigns with You for ever. Amen

PRAYER AFTER THE MASS St. Thomas Aquinas

I give thanks to Thee, O Lord, most holy, Father almighty, eternal God, that Thou hast vouchsafed, for no merit of mine own, but out of Thy pure mercy, to appease the hunger of my soul with the precious body and blood of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Humbly I implore Thee, let not this holy communion be to me an increase of guilt unto my punishment, but an availing plea unto pardon and salvation. Let it be to me the armour of faith and the shield of good will. May it root out from my heart all vice; may it utterly subdue my evil passions and all my unruly desires. May it perfect me in charity and patience; in humility and obedience; and in all other virtues. May it be my sure defence against the snares laid for me by my enemies, visible and invisible. May it restrain and quiet all my evil impulses, and make me ever cleave to Thee Who art the one true God. May I owe to it a happy ending of my life. And do Thou, O heavenly Father, vouchsafe one day to call me, a sinner, to that ineffable banquet, where Thou, together with Thy Son and the Holy Ghost, art to Thy saints true and unfailing light, fullness of content, joy for evermore, gladness without alloy, consummate and everlasting happiness. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
