www.GeorgiaStateSports.com GAME PREVIEW For the first time in school history, the Geor- gia State softball team (31-12, 9-3) will play a team ranked second in the nation in No. 2 Alabama (40-2, 17-2) Tues., April 17 in Tuscaloosa. The Panthers have placed Alabama twice, both times in 1997. On March 9, GSU lost to the Crimson Tide 2-4 at the Georgia State Round Robin tourna- ment in Atlanta. Alabama took the second contest 11-2 on March 28 at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic in Marietta, Ga. Although Georgia State has never face a sec- ond ranked team, GSU has twice played the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, losing both times to the top-ranked Arizona Wildcats 14-1 in 1994 and 4-1 in 1996. This will mark the team from the Southeastern Conference the Panthers have faced in 2012. Georgia State lost to No. 24 Auburn 9-1 in five innings on Feb. 22 in Panthersville before losing to No. 8 Georgia 6-0 in Athens. Besides these two SEC schools, GSU has faced one other ranked opponent prior this season in No. 25 Georgia Tech. In fact, the Panthers beat the rankedYellow Jackets in Pan- thersville by a score of 2-1, giving GSU a record of 1-2 vs. ranked teams in 2012. Both teams enter the contest after sweeping conference series this past weekend at home.Alabama took all three games over SEC foe South Carolina and Georgia State ex- tended their CAA win-streak to nine games with three wins over Drexel. Freshman Ashley Christy was named the CAA Player of the Week she went 7-for-11 at the plate with seven RBI and four runs scored. The Panthers got a walk-off home run from Brenna Morrissey during the first game against the Dragons. Following the matchup with the Crimson Tide, Georgia State flys to Newark, Del. to take on the Blue Hens in a three-game CAA series. 2012 Georgia State Softball GSU MEDIA RELATIONS SID Contact: Robert Carnes Address: 125 Decatur St., Suite 130 Atlanta, Ga. 30303 Office: (404) 413-4034 Cell: (770) 617-0598 E-Mail: [email protected] www.GeorgiaStateSports.com Facebook: facebook.com/GeorgiaStateSoftball Twitter: @GSU_Softball 2012 SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time/Result Feb. 11 LONGWOOD 1 W, 3-2 Feb. 11 ETSU 1 W, 11-2 Feb. 12 WESTERN CAROLINA 1 W, 7-5 Feb. 12 LONGWOOD 1 L, 7-11 Feb. 15 at Georgia Southern (DH) W, 1-0 Feb. 15 at Georgia Southern (DH) L, 1-4 Feb. 18 CHATTANOOGA 2 W, 5-1 Feb. 18 EASTERN ILLINOIS 2 W, 7-0 Feb. 19 IUPUI 2 W, 1-0 Feb. 22 #24 AUBURN L, 1-9 (5) Feb. 24 vs. Eastern Kentucky 3 L, 2-5 Feb. 24 vs. Southeastern Louisiana 3 W, 12-0 (5) Feb. 25 vs. Central Arkansas 3 W, 4-3 Feb. 25 vs. Campbell 3 W, 9-6 Feb. 26 vs. Robert Morris 3 W, 5-0 Feb. 29 #25 GEORGIA TECH W, 2-1 Mar. 2 vs. Tennessee Tech 4 W, 8-7 Mar. 2 vs. Western Kentucky 4 L, 2-3 Mar. 3 vs. Elon 4 Canceled Mar. 3 vs. Rhode Island 4 W, 5-0 Mar. 4 vs. Morehead State 4 W, 5-3 Mar. 4 vs. Furman 4 W, 2-0 Mar. 8 at Jacksonville State (DH) W, 4-2 Mar. 8 at Jacksonville State (DH) W, 5-3 Mar. 11 MERCER (DH) L, 2-3 Mar. 11 MERCER (DH) W, 2-1 Mar. 17 at Kennesaw State (DH) W, 3-1 Mar. 17 at Kennesaw State (DH) L, 1-3 Mar. 21 at No. 8 Georgia L, 0-6 Mar. 24 HOFSTRA (DH)* L, 6-8 Mar. 24 HOFSTRA (DH)* L, 0-16 (5) Mar. 25 HOFSTRA* L, 1-4 Mar. 31 TOWSON (DH)* W, 4-0 Mar. 31 TOWSON (DH)* W, 8-1 Apr. 1 TOWSON* W, 4-0 Apr. 4 at Furman (DH) W, 2-0 Apr. 4 at Furman (DH) W, 7-2 Apr. 6 at UNCW (DH)* W, 8-0 Apr. 6 at UNCW (DH)* W, 6-0 Apr. 7 at UNCW* W, 4-1 Apr. 11 at Georgia Tech L, 2-3 Apr. 14 DREXEL (DH)* W, 3-2 (8) Apr. 14 DREXEL (DH)* W, 8-0 (5) Apr. 15 DREXEL* W, 6-1 Apr. 17 at Alabama 7 p.m. Apr. 21 at Delaware (DH)* 12 p.m. Apr. 21 at Delaware (DH)* 2 p.m. Apr. 22 at Delaware* 12 p.m. Apr. 28 JAMES MADISON (DH)* 12 p.m. Apr. 28 JAMES MADISON (DH)* 2 p.m. Apr. 29 JAMES MADISON* 12 p.m. May 4 at George Mason (DH)* 12 p.m. May 4 at George Mason (DH)* 2 p.m. May 5 at George Mason* 12 p.m. May 9-11 CAA Tournament* TBD 1-Georgia State First Pitch Classic, Panthersville, Ga. 2-Panther Invitational, Panthersville, Ga. 3-Phyliss Rafter Memorial, Woodstock, Ga. 4-Buzz Classic, Woodstock, Ga. *-Colonial Athletic Association Game Georgia State (31-12, 9-3) vs. No. 2 Alabama (40-2, 17-2) Tuesday, April 17, 2012 • 7 p.m. ET Rhodes Stadium Tuscaloosa, Ala.
