Welcome to Highrock Brookline!

In case we haven’t made it clear yet, we are very happy that you joined us this Sunday.

Included here is a quick introduction to who we are and why we do some of the things we do. If you are interested in learning more about Highrock we’d love to talk to you and welcome you personally!

is to cultivate a community of

Christians through locally-focused congregations that bring God’s kingdom deeper into every neighborhood and institution in Greater Boston by living and loving in such a compelling and Christ-like way as to challenge our neighbors to seriously consider the claims of Christ, be reconciled to God, and serve others in the unique ways God designed them to so that Boston becomes a “city on a hill” that will be a blessing to the world.

Everyone has their own specific traits that make them unique - churches are like that too. Here are a few of Highrock Brookline’s unique qualities.

Our baptisms are held at historic Walden Pond - even during the winter!

‘Ohana’ grOupsOhana, a Hawaiian word for family, is what we call our small groups - intimate communities of people who gather together regularly to eat, study the Bible, and pray for one other. These cross-lifestage groups are where accountability, mentorship, support and love happens on a regular basis!

sOulfOOdFamilies eat together and so after first service, Soulfood is our shared family meal. It’s a meal where your soul, as well as your stomach is fed. We place a high value on sharing meals together, so you’ll notice that almost all events at Highrock will have food. Just as Jesus shared so many meals with his disciples, friends, and strangers - we would love to share them with you.

CreatiOn CareWe strive to be intentional about caring for God’s creation – even in small ways. It’s why we use reusuable plates and utensils at Soulfood, and why our regulars bring their own coffee mugs each Sunday to reduce waste. Even as a newcomer, you can join in by bringing your coffee mug next week!

saturday sabbathHighrock observes Saturday as a day of rest. There are no church meetings, no official events, nothing to take people away from simply resting in God’s presence. Because many people faithfully serve our church on Sundays, we understand it may not always feel like a day of rest. And so we set aside Saturdays for rest and play.

Kidsrock! is where our children learn about God and loving one another. Children worship with us during the opening music set, and are then dismissed to KidsRock! during the Passing of the Peace.

Of course, your children are more than welcome to stay with you for the entirety of the service if that is your preference.

KidsRock! rooms are located out the back doors of the auditorium. There will be teachers and other families there to assist you.

meet the ’roCkersAfter Connection Time you’ll get an invitation to “Meet the ’Rockers,” which is our regular dinner for newcomers at Pastor Josh and Minhee’s home. This is a great opportunity to meet some Highrockers and to enjoy a family meal.

serVinG in A ministrYFrom cooking Soulfood, to washing dishes, to teaching our kids, to welcoming newcomers, to playing music, there are all kinds of opportunities to serve on Sunday. This is not only a great way to serve the church, but serving also provides an opportunity to build relationships with one another.

connecting to our communityHere is a ‘road map’ for how to get connected more deeply at Highrock. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to develop meaningful Christian community at our church. This does not have to be the exact path you take, but hopefully it shows how many people in the church do get connected.

rUth bible stUDYAfter “Meet the ’Rockers,” you’ll be invited to one of our Ruth Bible Studies. Each week of this six-week study will look at a section of the Book of Ruth while highlighting a corresponding value of our church.

ohAnA GroUPsOur hope is that as you spend time within our church, you’ll eventually get connected to an Ohana Group. This is where the most intimate community at Highrock happens.

membershiPAt the core of Highrock Brookline are our members. These are the people who have committed to this community and who lead us in pursuing our vision, appointing our leaders, and so much more.

connecting with our world

hiGhroCk in nePAlOur church is deeply committed to the community of Brookline - but we also have our eyes set on what God is doing on a global scale. Through strategic partnerships, our efforts to join God in His work have been focused on the country of Nepal.

sAbitri’s sChool For WiDoWsNepal is a post-conflict country that has a startling number of widows and single women. Many of these women have no father, husband or son to provide for them, and possess no education of their own to be able to provide for themselves. We have partnered with one of these widows, a woman named Sabitri, to open a school specifically designed to educate these amazing women and to equip them for meaningful work.

sChool For ChilDren

With DisAbilitiesNepal is a predominantly Hindu country with a strong belief in reincarnation. Based on that belief, children born with disabilities are often considered cursed for the sins of a previous life. Moreover, because of the cultural stigma attached to disabilities, these children are often neglected and ignored, locked in closets, or left out on the streets. We have partnered with a local Nepali program called ABBS, which takes these children in, provides nutrition, education, human touch, and therapy treatment in order to minister to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
