Finally A Home That Works In Harmony With Your Life

The Manor at Hollingsworth Park at Verdae in Greenville, SC

Open Nov. 29-Dec. 2 & Dec. 6-9 ONLY!

Open for 8 DAYS ONLY!

C hris Rogers found success

building high-end custom

homes. Jerry Fay oversaw high-volume

production at a regional home builder that

built several hundred homes per year.

When they combined their strengths,

they created a company that brings together

the best of both worlds – the quality and

features of a custom home with the best-

practices and efficiency of a volume builder.

“We go all over the country visiting other

markets to find the best products and the

best procedures,” Fay said. “All of the

innovations, all of the green initiatives.”

Then they bring those ideas back to the

Upstate, where they build homes at a

variety of price points.

“We provide people with options they

didn’t know they had,” Rogers said. “We

challenge our vendors to do the same thing.”

Using this “plug-and-play” idea, clients

can comb through a huge variety of offerings

and choose exactly what they would like in

their dream home, whether their budget is

$250,000 or a million-plus.

Rogers, who founded Milestone Custom

Homes in 1995, was the sole owner for nine

years, until he partnered with Fay in 2004.

“With his practices and systems, and

our attention to detail, it worked out

phenomenally,” Rogers said. “It’s been

a huge boost for Milestone, because we

got a lot better, and are able to do things

more quickly, more efficiently and less

expensively.”

While the showcase home is where

many of their creative ideas are together in

one eye-popping place, Milestone can work

with most any client and budget to choose

just the features that will make a difference

in their lives.

“The biggest thing that separates

us is the relationship we have with our

customers,” Fay said. “What separates our

building style is creativity within every inch

of the house.”

Fay even goes to clients’ homes to see

how they live, and then he and Rogers come

up with solutions that improve daily life. These

special touches have included a niche for

golf clubs, a doll house, a dog palace, a kitty

closet, UsB charging stations, ballet barres,

and custom shoe closets.

“It’s just planning, and can be things

that are in any price range,” Fay says. “It’s

practical to put them in.”

For the Inspiration Home, they went all

out, with trademark special features, big

and small, scattered throughout the home,

including the spectacular home gym, a kitty

palace and a built-in slide hidden in a wall.

“We like the iHome because we want

people to see the kinds of things we do,”

Rogers said. “so it’s not just a pretty house at

the end, but is something that helps educate

people about their home, what they should

look for, and what quality looks like.” •

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of numerous Inspiration Home

sponsors and partners, every penny raised through ticket sales is going

directly to two local non-profit organizations.

The S.C. Mountains to Midlands affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the

Cure® was a part of the 2009 Inspiration Home Tour in 2009, and they

are thrilled to be involved again. “We like partnering with Milestone,” said

Ticket Sales to Benefit COMMUNITY GROUPS

of directors. “They have been great

champions for us, helping us fight

breast cancer and bring awareness.”

of each $10 ticket designated to

benefit the local Komen affiliate, 75%

stays in the community, providing

grants to organizations that provide

services such as breast cancer screen-

ings, treatment and helping those who

have been diagnosed. The remaining

25% will go to national research to

help find a cure, Fryer said.

The newest beneficiary, the Green-

ville Humane society, was chosen by

the homeowner due to their love of

animals. According to kim pitman, ex-

ecutive director, the funds are greatly

needed and sincerely appreciated.

Since the organization doesn’t re-

ceive any state or county funding, “we

totally rely on private donations to help

run our operations,” pitman said.

The Humane society moved into a

new building and expanded education

and community outreach services

last year. “We’ve had a huge positive

response to these services, which

we offer to the community for free,” she said. “This money will allow us to cover the costs of these educational services,” such as job training for special needs students, among other programs. It will also help defray the costs of caring for the 150 pets cur-rently in the adoption center.

“We are honored and very touched that the homeowners love their own pets and are passionate about our cause,” pitman said.

Both organizations are also getting involved with the Inspiration Home through their dedicated volunteers. More than 300 volunteers from each group are set to help in a variety of ways during the eight-day event.

Community members who want to help one of these organizations – while touring an amazing home filled with great ideas – can purchase tickets directly from either organization at their offices, on their websites, or at locations such as Bi-lo, Jeff lynch Appliance and TV Center and postcard from paris Home. There are a limited number of tickets available, so don’t wait!

The exterior of the 2012 Inspiration Home reflects the beauty and attention to detail visitors will find throughout. Don’t miss the natural Indiana limestone, hand-selected and installed by Samson Stone. This is the first time this stunning material has been used in the Upstate. The exterior also features Cypress Forest Brick, a low-maintenance landscape, casement windows and shingles that boast the highest safety rating available while enhancing the home with high-definition color.

The foyer, study and “secret room” welcome guests with a fresh take on traditional style created by linda Mcdougald design | postcard from paris Home. details abound, including heavy wainscoting, custom built-ins and a custom spanish cedar front door. don’t forget to look down – the Burchette & Burchette hardwood flooring was imported from France, cut from the heart of antique French oak to showcase a cathedral pattern. It was then hand-scraped to create a softly aged look. Be on the lookout for a secret door in the foyer – you’ll want to find out where it leads!

The master suite is the definition of relaxed elegance, with a stunning crystal chandelier, large his-and-hers closets and a hidden door that allows that ultimate luxury – privacy. This room also offers a private patio overlooking the resort-style backyard, plus a spa-like bath with

a hydrotherapy shower. There’s even a laundry station with a full-size stackable washer and dryer – perfect for busy lifestyles.

Head upstairs to find two adorable children’s suites, along with plush guest room, all with furnishings provided by Jeff lynch Appliance and TV Center. each room includes its own walk-in closet and bathroom, plus many special features that turn this level into a wonderland for any age.

The little girl’s room includes a large built-in desk, plus a playhouse with custom window and doorway, while the little boy’s room features a built-in desk and a play loft with skylight. There is another convenient laundry room, along with a kitty palace – the ultimate retreat for the family pet. There’s a separate play area as creative as a child’s imagination, with a craft studio, an entertainment stage and even a wall slide, all bathed in natural light thanks to skylights.

sports fans and active types will not want to miss the jaw-dropping gymnasium on the terrace level, or the glass sky box on the home’s main level. This is the perfect spot for a pick-up game or practice, with maple hardwood floors, professional goals and even a locker room! The skybox, with its commanding view of the basketball court, is the ideal spot to watch the action.

The terrace level, furnished by Jeff lynch, is designed for modern living, family relaxation and casual entertaining. The in-home Internet cafe, with its built-in coffee and smoothie bar, is the place for catching up on work and homework or gathering for family game nights. The same Indiana limestone from the home’s exterior shows up here as well in a large stone arched wall, creating a eye-catching focal point. Stay fit with ease in the fitness studio equipped with HdTV and great sound.

Family members and guests will flock to the home theater, which offers luxurious seating and the latest audiovisual equipment, bringing the theater experience home. TThere’s also technology you can’t see throughout the home, including an HVAC system that not only conditions the space, but cleans the air

The resort-style patio and pool offers plenty of wow factor, with a gorgeous 55,000-gallon saltwater pool as the centerpiece. Built by signature pools and patios, this gorgeous pool has something for everyone, including a lap lane for serious swimmers and a shallow area with bubbling wands to delight children, plus a slide, central spa with vanishing edges and a sun area. The large deck, with outdoor furnishings from Jeff lynch, is accented by non-slip pavers and travertine coping. When the sun goes down, this high-efficiency pool has

led lights that create stunning effects. The owners can even manage the pool pump via their iphone or ipad.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this one, designed by postcard from paris Home, continues the sophisticated yet relaxed feel, with striking white and gray Caesarstone countertops, matte gray glass tiles and textural linen upholstery. Cabinets by Mullinax Woodworks and a custom-designed range hood complement the top-quality sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer and 48'' dual fuel Wolf Range. Family cookouts are a snap thanks to the adjacent grilling porch.

open spaces suit the way people live today, and this wide-open great room makes this point with style to spare. open to the kitchen and the second-floor, the room makes a dramatic statement and is perfect for relaxing with groups large or small. And it gets even more open from there – the unique folding door system by Jeld-Wen opens to create a 12-foot opening to the outdoors, seamlessly blending with the screened patio.

It’s the season to get inspired, and there’s no better place than the Inspi-ration Home. At this magnificent show-case home, decked out in unique holi-day style, visitors will find more than 11,000 square feet of luxury, packed with ideas on how homeowners can enrich their living experience.

Milestone Custom Homes owners Jerry Fay and Chris Rogers were en-thusiastic about the chance to show the Upstate community what their company can do through the Inspira-tion Home. They have poured plenty of their creativity and ingenuity into the home, which features complex roofli-nes, stunning outdoor spaces, a re-sort-style pool and terrace, a smoothie bar, home theater, children’s playland with skylights and much more.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on being at the forefront with new products and new technology,” Rogers said. “We like bringing those things to greenville more quickly than anyone else.”

The Inspiration Home project is a collaboration between Milestone Custom Homes, Verdae – the devel-oper of the 1100-acre master planned community, postcard from paris, and many more sponsors and project partners.

debbie Wallace, director of market-ing for Verdae, said, “We’re excited to be a part of such an exceptional tour and we’re ready to show off all that’s happening here.”

The Manor is one of several active neighborhoods within the 300-acre residential community and it brings

larger lots and luxury homes to the mix of home options.

Besides being an ideal location, it’s also a walkable community connected by sidewalks and bike paths and a 20-acre central park.

Tour visitors will see “an incredible example of luxury living during the tour, but we don’t want people to miss the fact that neighboring streets offer homes from the $200,000’s as well. This is a wonderfully unique place to live, with something for just about ev-eryone.” Wallace said.

linda Mcdougald, principal and lead designer at linda Mcdougald design | postcard from paris Home, was pleased to be involved because “Milestone and Verdae do an incred-ible job, bringing the best of every-thing,” she said.

she enjoyed working with Milestone on its previous iHome Tour in 2009, and also appreciated that the tour is a charity event that raises funds for worthy causes.

she and her team oversaw all of the interior design specifications of the home, choosing materials for floors, wall finishes, tiles, countertops, plumbing and much more. They also furnished and accessorized the main level, including outfitting it with rugs and window treatments.

since the home already has own-ers, Mcdougald and her team worked to “support the clients’ desires from a style perspective, while creating a fresh approach to traditional for the greenville market to see.”

That included cool neutral tones and a look that is traditional, but with a

cleaner, more contemporary feel. And because the Inspiration Home Tour coincides with the holidays, the home features decor, provided by embassy Flowers and nature’s gifts, that puts a new twist on traditional decorating.

Jeff lynch Appliance and TV Cen-ter pitched in to provide furnishings and interior design services on the second floor and terrace level of the home, where comfortable furnishings and european-style fabrics overlook the 55,000-gallon saltwater pool, which includes a lap lane and hot tub. A unique folding-door system opens the main-level to the resort-style backyard.

Wallace, Fay, Rogers and Mcdou-gald said their teams, as well as other key contributors, put a lot of time into the Inspiration Home project, but the final results show the work has paid off. All are proud to showcase a jaw-dropping home that will leave area homeowners dazzled and inspired.

And each member of the develop-ment team is proud to help the fund-raising efforts of two important chari-ties.

“It’s fun to hear people’s com-ments when they see the home,” Rogers says. “It’s very satisfying. And the charities can raise a tremen-dous amount of money through ticket sales. That’s a cool way to tie in with something that is more important than building an amazing house.” •
