General informationIf you have questions about our courses, please phone Grace Conway at 815-802-8207 or email [email protected]. Unless noted otherwise, participants must be at least 16 years of age.

Pre-registrationPre-registration is required. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to minimum enrollment requirements, you are encouraged to sign up at least seven business days before the first session. In all classes except online classes, once the minimum enrollment requirement is met, registrations will be accepted until the start date if space is available. For online classes, the registration deadline is one week before the class begins.

Registering a friend or co-workerYou may register yourself and others. A separate form (or online registration) must be submitted for each person. Information required for each person – such as address, birth date and Social Security number – must be included.

Registration confirmationKCC will send a confirmation of each registration. The confirmation will include a receipt, your beginning and end course dates, classroom location and any additional information.

Waiting listsIf the class you want to take is full, ask to be placed on a waiting list. If another class is opened, you will be contacted.

Instructor absencesInstructors rarely miss classes, but if a session is unexpectedly canceled, every effort will be made to call you. However, since this often happens on short notice, a sign will be posted at the class location.

Weather cancellationsWhen KCC campus closes due to inclement weather, Continuing Education and Career Services classes are postponed. Classes canceled due to weather will be rescheduled. Visit www.kcc.edu/severeweatherclosings for information on notifications.

Cancellation policyIf a class must be canceled by KCC, those who have enrolled will receive full refunds. The college will make every attempt to notify participants in advance of cancellations. Refunds from credit card payments will be made in the form of a credit to the cardholder’s account.

Withdrawal policyParticipants may withdraw and receive full refunds, minus a $3 service fee, until two working days before the first session of class. After that point, no refunds will be given. Withdrawals are accepted by phone at 815-802-8207, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Medical Spanish InterpretationInterpreters are needed in medical environments to assist clients unable to communicate in English or who have limited English proficiency. Language barriers can prevent some clients from accessing services and leaves them at risk for receiving inappropriate medical care. This course is designed to prepare bilingual individuals to be interpreters in a medical environment. The course focuses on listening, analysis, memorization skills, interpreting techniques, medical terminology and ethical guidelines. Instructor: Lupita Sorich.

Our instructorMarcia Reed-WoodardMarcia Reed-Woodard is Principal of MAR Consulting CSR, offering corporate social responsibility consulting, nonprofit management assistance and private/public/social sector services. In addition to working as an adjunct professor at Prairie State College, Woodard regularly teaches grant writing, nonprofit management and corporate responsibility courses at Chicago-area corporations and organizations. IndustryElectrical Safety Awareness NFPA 70E QualifiedThis workshop in advanced electrical awareness is designed to provide electrical safety certification for your employees who require the skills, knowledge and abilities to work safely in an environment of energized electrical equipment. It fulfills the OSHA mandate stated in 29CFR 1910 for electrical safety training for “qualified” personnel who work on energized circuits.

OSHA 10 HourThis course will introduce participants to the OSHAct and OSHA’s general industry standards. It is based on the OSHA 501 seminar and materials used at the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration Training Institute. Participants will learn how to apply specific OSHA safety and health standards, policies and procedures to their workplace, use the OSHA regulations to establish or supplement an effective safety and health program, identify common OSHA violations and propose appropriate corrective actions. Seminar materials include a manual with outlines of the OSHAct and the standards. Participants will receive certification upon completion. This seminar is intended for small employers who do not have safety/health professionals on staff and for re-training of existing staff for larger companies.

Inattentive ADHD: New Approaches in Assessing and Treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is defined as a condition affecting children and adults that is characterized by problems with attention, impulsivity, and over activity. The inattentive-type ADHD often gets overlooked. It is characterized by difficulty focusing for extended periods of time; distractibility; lack of organization; and, hypo- rather than hyper-activity. Proper diagnosis of inattentive-type ADHD is important to a child’s academic and social success. Tai Chi Instructor CourseTherapeutic Tai Chi In-A-Chair, a full-body/full-range fitness routine for daily physical activity, was developed for people who have balance, standing, vision and other issues or disabilities. This course covers the history, development and adaptations of traditional Qi Gong and Tai Chi. America’s Boating Course (3rd Ed.) This is an introductory course for all boaters produced by the United States Power Squadrons (USPS) and taught by USPS certified instructors. Topics include boat and hull types, required safety equipment, operator responsibilities, boat handling, personal watercraft operation, fueling procedures, water sports safety, trailering, nautical rules of the road, navigation lights and sound signals, emergency equipment and procedures, homeland security regulations, state of Illinois regulations, and more. These classes offer credit toward completion of a traditional high school diploma. Algebra I – MATH 550G.910This math course covers expressions and formulas, integers, solving equations, exponents and polynomials, functions and graphs, graph and systems of equations, inequalities, roots and proportions, and factoring and quadratic equations. Location: KCC, Iroquois County Satellite Center, 1001 E. Grant Street, Watseka. Days/times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-4:30 p.m. H.S. credit/cert. credit: 1 semester high school credit; or 1.5 cert. credits. Cost: $126, plus $20 for textbook, payable at registration.

General English – ENGL 541G.910This is a basic grammar and composition course which focuses on parts of speech, vocabulary development and the mechanics of developing compositions. Location: KCC, Iroquois County Satellite Center, 1001 E. Grant Street, Watseka. Days/times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30-2:30 p.m. June 11 to July 26. H.S. credit/cert. credit: 1 semester high school credit; or 1.5 cert. credits. Cost: $126, plus $25 for textbook, payable at registration.

GED predictive testing

Before paying a fee and sitting for the GED tests, you can take the free GED predictive test. This test is especially useful for those who have not taken tests for awhile.

• The test is available by appointment.

• The test takes approximately 4 hours, and it covers the same 5 areas as the actual GED exam.

• Participation in GED preparation courses is recommended but not required prior to taking the predictive test.

• Results are available within one hour.

Note: Although the GED predictive test is free, there is a charge to take the actual GED exam.
