This year’s Annual Leadership Institute event includes a multitude of opportunities for learning and discussion
• David Herbel will launch the conference on Wednesday, August 29 with an overview of Association initiatives as a background for the generative thinking that drives our annual Leadership Event.
• On Thursday, Kathleen Griffin will again join us to discuss the latest developments in Medicare payment models, including innovative shared savings and risk plans.
• William Dombi, National Association for Home Care and Hospice, will initiate and participate in an interactive live discussion on the post acute care continuum and how health care reform will affect providers and partners.
• Billing experts Julie Kearney, Betsy Anderson, and Janet Potter will update participants about the current issues in Medicare and Medicaid billing. On Friday, we have invited Leah Killian Smith to provide a detailed overview of the upcoming ICD-10 changes and their effect on nursing home billing.
• Because an effective team approach to revenue cycles is critical to success, we have invited back Clint Maun for a five hour intensive on the four critical elements of the revenue cycle: admissions, rightness, marketing, and sales. Although this track is intended for administrators and program managers, interested billers are invited to attend.

Session 1C/d - preparing for Capitated reimbursementRegardless of the specific program (Medicare/Medicaid) or payment system (ACO/MCO) most providers realize that some form of capitated reimbursement is in their future. This session takes a strategic and organizational look at preparing for health care reform, rather than simply looking at clinical metrics or principles of contracting. We will explore strategic positioning vis-à-vis different types of networks, the leadership challenges of transforming your organization’s business model, and creative ways to maintain the bottom line. virgil hughes, the rackham groupKenneth noreen, the rackham group

Session 1F - medeFenSe plusHealthcare providers including hospitals, physician practices, nursing homes, home health agencies, durable medical equipment suppliers and any other provider or supplier that bills Medicare or Medicaid are now faced with the reality that the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) or Zone Program Integrity Contractor (ZPIC) audits have spread nationwide. Healthcare providers need to understand the authority of the contractors and the consequences of an audit as well as the protection available.margaret Chamberlain, Kitch attorneys and Counselors
Session 2B/C/d/e/F - arms: Implementing Successful revenue teams workshopHealthcare organizations today must have “surefire” results from their efforts to positively affect their budget’s top line (revenue line). Revenue cycle components discussed are Admissions, Rightness, Marketing, and Sales.Clint maun, maun-Lemke

Session 3d - medicare Billing Compliance StrategiesMedicare billing is completed and submitted by the fifth business day each month, payment is received, everything is in good working order, or is it? This session will review the Medicare billing procedures from a compliance point of view. Just because your facility is receiving payments from Medicare, does not mean everything is correct. Each organization should have a triple check process in place to ensure that every claim is accurate. We will help you determine ways to ensure compliance. Betsy anderson, Fr&r healthcare Consulting Janet potter, Fr&r healthcare Consulting
Session 3e - additional development requestsWith all the medical reviews that SNFs have undergone, it is increasingly important to have a strong procedure in place to complete Additional Development Requests (ADRs) timely and accurately. This session will discuss the importance of an ADR team, tracking procedures within the organization, completion of the ADR packet and additional follow up needed.Betsy anderson, Fr&r healthcare Consulting Janet potter, Fr&r healthcare Consulting
Session 3F - medicare CollectionsMedicare payments often account for a large percentage of SNF overall revenue. When claims are not paid timely and collection lags, the facility can be in a big cash flow predicament. This session will help Medicare billers and business offices to streamline their Medicare billing process. We will take a look at potential problem claims and discuss ways to avoid payment delays. By taking a proactive approach to Medicare billing, the cash stream can flow much smoother. Betsy anderson, Fr&r healthcare Consulting Janet potter, Fr&r healthcare Consulting

Session 1I - who Says Financing has to be Conventional?Agency funding for senior living providers has exploded in popularity over the past few years. The non-recourse, low interest and long term/amortization features of agency financing has proven to be a strategic safe haven for senior living providers as traditional sources of capital have become more expensive and less term favorable. This presentation will provide a case-study based discussion of the agency financing environment for providers including FHA/HUD, FNMA and USDA funding alternatives.Kass matt, Lancaster pollard

Session 2J - make the most of development and Implementation of Compliance plansSkilled nursing facilities are required to develop and implement compliance plans no later than March 23, 2013 per Healthcare Reform legislation. The clock is running out and now is the time to review the Compliance Plan Guidance issued by the Office of the Inspector General. This session will review the seven required elements of a compliance plan and provide practical guidance on how a SNF can ensure they have an effective plan. Examples will also be presented for participants to discuss how their existing compliance plans or policies can be updated.Betsy anderson, Fr&r healthcare Consulting
Session 2K - medication management to reduce riskIt is not a secret that resident care issues have become increasingly more complex and in turn, so has the medication regimen. The result is an increased risk for adverse events and polypharmacy to manage side effects, both of which further complicate resident care delivery and medication management. To safeguard against the occurrence of medication-related adverse events, a collaborative team effort among the physician, nurse, pharmacist, and even the resident is key. This session will discuss the overall goal of the pharmaceutical services system within a facility and its usage to ensure the safe and effective use of medications.Brian dimit, pointClickCare
Session 2L - are all Your Bases Covered? what Your In-house or Contracted therapy provider doesn’t Know Can place You at Compliance and/or Financial risk.During this session you will learn the key compliance questions to ask your in-house or contracted therapy provider to determine your potential risks in the provision of therapy services under SNF PPS Part A and Outpatient/Part B. Therapy services continue to be scrutinized and with the population aging, federal and state audits and enforcement efforts will increase. If you do not have an effective partnership with your therapy provider you can be at risk as well as be “leaving money on the table.” Compliance programs will be mandatory for SNF by March 2013 and SNF should incorporate therapy services into any program.Josita dehaan-Kicmal, agility health
