Once a student herself at Lee’s Summit Elementary, third grade teacher Kristen Merrell was named Lee’s Summit R-7 Teacher of the Year by the school district and the Chamber of Commerce. Merrell later went on to be named Missouri State Teacher of the Year.
Did you know?The Lee’s Summit R-7’s 2011 Teacher of the Year Kristen Merrell went on to win Missouri Teacher of the Year! A Lee’s Summit Teacher has won this prestigious award two out of the last three years.
Cindy Miller has been the director of Columbia College-Kansas City since December of 2008. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

In April, John Knox Village resident, Flora Guarino, a holocaust survivor, uses a map to show fifth graders at Underwood Elementary where she and her family lived in Poland before being displaced by the Russians and taken to a work camp in 1945. She and her family eventually escaped into post-war Germany.
