A Proven Program for Council-Wide Unit Fund Raising The Popcorn Sale is a “win-win” situation for everyone! Your Scouts have an opportunity to earn outstanding prizes and your unit can earn much-needed dollars to help deliver a quality program. A successful popcorn sale also helps ensure that our Council can continue to provide the many extras that we provide because popcorn supports our operating budget. Your support is greatly appreciated, by participating in popcorn sales as your unit’s “Popcorn Kernel”. You are helping to make a difference. We want to thank the Scouts, leaders, parents, and “Friends of Scouting” who support popcorn sales. The Popcorn sale plays an important role in supporting our units and the Arbuckle Area Council. A portion of every sale supports your unit as well as the council’s operating budget. Your participation in the popcorn sale helps provide some of the following services from the Arbuckle Area Council:

• Accident & Sickness Insurance for EVERY member of the Arbuckle Area Council

• Subsidized Council Activities: including day camps, resident camps, district and other council events

• Increased inventory in the Scout Shop stocked with more merchandise for your Scouting needs

• Free training so that our Scouts have the very best leadership possible

• Professional staff that is here to help support your unit, district, and council programs

• The Arbuckle Scouter, a quarterly newsletter

Council Improvements to the Popcorn Program

• Council Provided Prize Program

All Scouts who fill up an order form during Blitz weekend, or by the end of the sale will automatically be entered into a gift card drawing. The Arbuckle Area Council will give away over $1500 in Wal-Mart Gift-Cards. Scouts who sell $3,500 will automatically earn a $200 Walmart gift card. The top salesman in the Council will also receive a $100 Savings Bond.

• Pickup Times

In order for us to make the Popcorn Pickup more efficient we are assigning you a scheduled popcorn pick up time. We will have your order ready when you come so you can verify its accuracy. You should bring a check made out to the Arbuckle Area Council in the amount due to Council.

Delivery Method for Popcorn .

Take Order Take Order is where the Scout has a brochure with the product information on an order sheet and takes orders from customers. The Scout can take orders beginning on September, 29th 2012 in Chickasaw and Washita Districts and ending October 29th. Harry Miller District Scouts begin October 27th, 2012 and end November 26th, 2012. Scouts submit their orders to their unit kernel, who enters the order needed for their unit and places this order ON-LINE through the Trails-End Website. The Unit order must be submitted on-line no later than October 31st for Units in Chickasaw and Washita Districts. The pickup date for these orders will be November 10th.

Harry Miller Unit orders must be submitted on-line no later than November 28th, 2012. Pickup date for Harry Miller is December 8th. Your unit kernel delivers a check for the amount due to council on the day of pick-up. If requested we will not deposit your unit check until Monday, November 26th, or Thursday, December 27th, again depending on which district you are in No

orders will be taken over the phone. You must enter your order Online at www.trails-end.com

SHOW and SELL We will be offering the opportunity to participate in show and sell to Chickasaw and Washita Districts. This is a method of popcorn sales in which units in the above districts will have an opportunity to pre-order popcorn by September 12th. Units choosing to do this will have their inventory on hand and, therefore can make a sale, collect fee’s, and deliver the product all at once. It is important to note that units who choose to participate will be responsible for selling or paying for the popcorn ordered for show and sell. This could be a great way to supplement your take order. NOTE: Show and Sell orders must be full case orders; Products that are prone to melting may not arrive until mid- October. (after Blitz Weekend)

Sell On-line, Mobile, or both! Scouts expand their customer base when they sell on-line. By sending e-mails to friends and family who live far away, Scouts reach customers they otherwise would not be able to sell to. Since on-line orders are shipped directly to customers these sales eliminate the need to deliver the product. Scouts using the new Mobile app for I phone or android can sell popcorn almost anywhere. The Mobile app uses the same account that the Scout created to sell online. Step 1- Go to scouts.trails-end.com to create an account, or sign in if you already have one. Step 2- Go to the app store on your smart phone, find the Trails-End mobile app and download. Step 3- Go to Send E-mails page to send e-mails to your customers, Don’t forget to follow-up! Step 4- Go to Track My On-line Sales to see who has made a purchase. NOTE: If you are not using the mobile app just skip step #2 to make sales on-line Remember, on-line sales count towards your prize programs!

Popcorn Sales Tips to Help Increase Your Sales!!!!! Share these tips with your Scouts and parents:

• Set up a popcorn booth after your religious service(s). Ask permission to do so prior to selling.

• Ask your chartered organization for their support in helping you with your sale (bulletins, newsletters, location for popcorn posters announcing your sale and contact persons).

• Ask parents to consider popcorn as an employee holiday gift or other form of recognition or appreciation gift for their fellow employees.

• Contact your customers from last year and ask them if they had any friends who wanted to support Scouting by purchasing popcorn.

Popcorn Pick Up Locations

This year, all popcorn will be picked up at the listed locations only. If you need to pick up your popcorn at another time other than the scheduled time, please call the Council Service Center. We will try to work with you. Location: Chickasaw/Washita Harry Miller

Soil & Forage Receiving Building

Pontotoc Vo- Tech Center

@ the Noble Foundation 2510 Sam Noble Parkway 601 W. 33rd

Ardmore, OK Ada, Ok

You will pick up your popcorn along with other units/groups. Bring some other adults with you to assist in loading your order. Bring enough vehicles or a vehicle large enough to pick up your order. A good rule of thumb is a mid-size car holds 20 cases, a Jeep Cherokee holds about 40 cases, and a mini van holds 60 cases. Please plan accordingly. A Dock High Ryder truck is the best for Large Orders.

Suggestions to help make your sale a GREAT Success

Goal-setting: Successful Units always set a Unit goal, but the really successful Units also set “per-boy” goals. One Unit Leader explained her Unit’s success by saying that she asks every boy to sell $500 in popcorn, and explains how to do it, whom to ask, etc. She said almost all boys made the goal easily, BUT there were lots of boys (ambitious ones) who went well above that mark… and they made all the money they needed for the year. Another suggestion is to set a goal of going to 35 houses. Specific Unit and/or Den Kickoffs: Earns you extra Commission because this is crucially important. Units that are successful with Popcorn sales have a kick-off where they show and explain the Unit program to parents and boys while telling them how they can pay for it, have fun with a theme, games and skits, explain how to sell, safety tips, and show prizes the Unit is planning to give boys for selling. They encourage ALL boys and parents to participate, and give the Unit AND per-boy goals here. Units who have poor sales, typically just announce at the end of a meeting that Popcorn materials are at the back, and to pick stuff up on the way out the door. Large units are encouraged to break things down at the Den/Patrol level (kickoffs, goals, etc.)

Blitz Weekend Participation: Earn extra commission by participating. Explain how getting ALL your boys to participate in the Blitz Weekend can help them get most (or all) the way to their Unit Goal, and more importantly, can allow their boys to have more fun when selling (as a team). The Unit should make it fun: have a hot dog roast afterwards or go to a Pumpkin Patch that afternoon, for instance.

Communication to Parents: Research shows that Parents are interested in 3 things: What’s in it for my boy, what’s in it for our Unit, and how do we become more successful? Be sure you are able to explain these at your Unit Kickoff, and if they all give a strong effort, they won’t need to constantly pay for programs throughout the year, or do other fundraisers.

Fill Up

Take Order Form Fill up just ONE Take Order Form, and have your name placed in a drawing for each take order form they fill up throughout the sale. Those chosen in the drawing will receive a Wal-Mart Gift Card.

The drawings will take place the Friday following Blitz Weekend and again at the conclusion of the sale. Of course, you’ll also get the prize ie. gift card of your choice at the level of sales you reach (prize levels are on the back of your Family Sales Guide). All Scouts that “fill-up” one or more Take-Order Forms will be eligible for the gift card drawings.

Participate in the “Blitz Weekend”

Sell popcorn during the “Blitz Weekends”, and you and your buddies can win additional

prizes. To qualify to have your name entered into the Council’s Blitz Weekend “Big Prizes”

Drawing, you must have filled up ONE sheet during that weekend and let your Scout leader know how much you sold. It should be noted that your name will be entered into the drawing for each order form that is filled thereby increasing your chances of being selected from the drawing! Your Scout leader will then need to fax in a copy of the blitz weekend report sheet to the Arbuckle Area Council 580-223-4991 by noon on the date listed on the calendar section of this book.
