COEUR D’ ALENE
AFTER THE REIGN
This is Coeur D’Alene, ID when gasprices reach $7/gallon in the year 2035. The north Idaho town is an established tourist community that is threatenedby its isolation like many modernby its isolation, like many modern
f suburbs. The town is composed of several planned developments and a resort community. Our design solutionis a sustainable system that relies on community rather than technologicalstategies-localized reuse of cul-de-sac developmpmenentstss a andnd s trategic infi ll betweenn tract homeses. CONCEPTS & EXAMINATIONS
I make sense of the world througgh theextension of my hands.
f“The creative process is a coocktail ofinstinct, skill, culture and a highlyy creativeeeeeeefeverishness. It is not like a drug; it is aparticular state when everything hhappensvery quickly, a mixture of consciousnessand unconsciousness, of feear andpleasure; it’s a little like making llove, thephysical act of love.”

SERPENTINE PAVILION
1 DAY CHARETTE WITH ARUP ASSOCIATES
The basic principle of sustainability is the concept of adaption vs. mitigation. This proposed pavilion physically demonstrates these two opposing
rconcepts towards the greater population of London. On one side, the large central door can be easilymoved as more people in habit thespace (mitigate). On the other side the people are forced to adapt to thefl ct ating spatial conditions the ha eflfl fl flflflucuu tuating spatial conditions-they have nononononnonon control of their environment and mmumumumummmm st adapt to what is given to them. PIONEER SQUARE
HOMELESS ASSITANCE SHELTER
fPositioned along the original “skid road”, the corner of r Yesler Way & Western Ave, this is a community center
that combines the residents, commuters, tourists, f & homeless of Pioneer Square, with the process of
preparing homeless residents for independence.Historically, this location is the convergence of Seattle’s
rupper-class with a lower, poorer class. Today, Pioneer Square continues to withstand this relationship between various social groups: the homeless, drug dealers, neighborhood residents, tourists, commuters,& business owners. This neighborhood needs a placefor interaction between this diverse set of user types to strengthen the growing social relationships that couldmake this area a thriving neighborhood.Communal spaces are woven through pods (supported by a modular, tensegrity steel frame). The pods respond to signifi cant moments along the process of adjustingfrom being homeless to returning to the social normof living. Social interaction occurs spontaneouslybetween, on top, & underneath these pods allowing for informal and meaningful relationships to occur-learning is not only through the programs offered, but
g ppalso through social support.
