ThankyouforyourinterestinWestminsterCollegeandourTitansoccerteams.Ihopethatyouwillfindthe2012TitanSoccerGuidebeneficialasyoulearnaboutourteam.
Westminstersoccerplayersbenefitfromtheopportunitytocom-peteataregionallevel.Ourteamshavewoneightconferencechampionships(5women’s,3men’s)since2002andmadeeighttripstotheNCAADivisionIIItournamentduringthatspan.Sixteenplayers(9women,7men)haveearned22all-regionselectionssince1998.
Ourregionalsuccessisatestamenttoourchallengingnon-conferenceschedulesthatoftenincludemultipleteamsrankedintheTop10inourregion.
Wedon’tjustrecruitplayerslocally.Manystudent-athletesreal-izethevalueofahigh-levelsoccerprogramandaWestminstereducationandtravelgreatdistancestocontributetooursuc-cess.Thetypeofstudent-athletewerecruitexcelsonthefieldandintheclassroomwithmanyplayersearningrecognitionontheAcademicAll-DistrictandAcademicAll-Americateams.
Ourschoolanditsadministrationhaverecognizedtheimportanceofoursoccerprograms.Sinceaddingourwomen’steamin1998,theyhavemadepositivestridesinimprovingbothourmen’sandwomen’ssoccerfacilitiesincludingnewlockerrooms,anewinternationalsizegrassfield,andafieldwithartificialturfandlightsfornightgames.
WeareproudofoursoccerprogramshereatWestminsterandwechallengemorequalitystudent-athletestohelpcontinueoursuccess.

Heispursuingamaster’sdegreeineducationatWest-minsterwhilecoachingthemen’steam.HeholdsaUSSF“D”CoachingLicenseandisintheprocessofattainingadditionalUSSFandNSCAAcertification.
Heandhiswife,Rachel,currentlyresideinNewWilm-ington.
StephanieRickettsbeginsherthirdseasonastheassistantcoachfortheWestminsterwomen’ssoccerteamin2012.ShecametoWestminsterfromAdrianCollegewhereshewasanassistantwomen’ssoccercoachforthreeseasons,includingtheteam’sinterimheadcoachforsixmonthsduringthespringof2008.
DuringherthreeyearsasanassistantsoccercoachatAdrian,theBulldogsimprovedtheirrecordeachseasonincludingthe2009teamthatwent11-6-2andplacedsecondintheMIAAconferenceandranked10thintheCentralRegionbytheNSCAA.Thatteamalsoproducedfourall-conferenceplayers,oneall-regionplayeranditsstartinggoalkeeper,Rickett’sareaofexpertise,ranked25thinthenation.
Asaplayer,Rickettswasafour-yearstartinggoal-keeperatGoucherCollegeinherhometownofBaltimore,Md.,whereshegraduatedwithhonorsinpsychologyin2007.Shepostedthesecond-highestsavepercentageintheCACconferencein2006andbecamejustthefourthgoalkeeperinschoolhistorytoreach300careersaves.
Sheispursuingamaster’sdegreeineducationatWestminsterwhilecoachingthewomen’steam.SheholdsaUSSFNational“D”CoachingLicenseandanNSCAANationalGoalkeepingDiploma.
HavingcoachedtheWestminsterCollegemen’sandwomen’ssoccerteamsconcurrentlysince2002andthemen’steamsince1998,GirishThakarhaswonacombined283winsandeightconferencechampionships,whilemaking12postseasonappearances.
SinceThakartookoverbothteamstenyearsago,WestminsterhasqualifiedfortheNCAAChampionshipseighttimes,includingthreeforthemen(2002,2004,2008)andfiveforthewomen(2002-05,2007).Inaddition,theeightPresidents’AthleticConference(PAC)titlestheTitanshavecollectedincludesthreeforthemen(2002,2006,2008)andfiveforthewomen(2002-04,2006-07).ThakarwasnamedPACCoachoftheYearfourtimes,threeforwomen’ssoccer(2002,2005,2006)andoneformen’s(2008).
BothteamswonthePACtitleinthesameyearin2002and2006,withthelatterconsideredThakar’sfinestyearofcoachingasbothteamswontheleaguecrownsasunderdogsandqualifiedforthepostseasonintheECACDivisionIIISouthChampionships.
Thakarentershis15thseasonwiththemenand11thwiththewomenin2012foracombinedrecordof283-184-34(.599).
Thakar’s14-yearrecordasWestminster’smen’scoachis146-118-16(.550),includingateam-record17-6markin2008aftertheTitanswonthePACtitleandadvancedtothesecondroundoftheNCAAtournament.
ThakartookthereinsoftheWestminsterwomen’sprogramonaninterimbasisin2002,thenwasnamedpermanentheadcoachpriortothe2003season.Duringthepast10seasons,theTitanwomenareacombined137-66-18(.661)withfivePACchampionshipsandfour-straightNCAAtournamentappearancesfrom2002-05.
PriortocoachingatWestminster,Thakarwastheheadmen’scoachathisalmamater,SlipperyRockUniversity,from1993-96,aftergraduatingfromSRUin1991.Asaplayerat

Duetograduation,Westminsterlostthreeoftheirtopscorersfrom2011,whichwereJake Huey(6goals),Coty Hainsey (4goals),andJames Gross(4goals).Theirgoalsaccountedfor64percent(14of22)ofthegoalsscoredlastseason,howevercoachThakerisoptimisticforthe2012of-fense.
“Ithinkwewouldliketohaveabalancedattackfrombothourforwardsandmidfielders,howeverIfeelthatinordertohaveasuc-cessfulseasonsomeonewillhavetoscore13to15goals,”addedThakar.“Iamveryhappywiththisyear’sforwardsandIbelievethereissomeoneinthisgroupthatisgoingtohaveanoutstandingseason.”
TitangoaliesKephartandBonishwillbothbevy-ingforthestartingpositionbetweenthepipes.Theduosplitdutiesaseasonagoforacombined112saves,withKephartleadingwith58.Bonishhadthewinningedgewiththreewinsincludingashutout,whileKepharthadonevictory.
EightypercentofWestminster’s2012teamisunderclassmenwithsomecom-petingtomakeanimmediateimpact.SophomoreAnthony Humes (Darlington, England, / The Hummersknott Academy)providedasparkinhisfirstyearasheplayedin13gameswiththreestartsandtotaledfivepoints(2goals,1assist).
“Iexpecttheunderclassmentochal-lengeforstartingpositionsandtobringourteamthecompetitionneededtogetthebestoutofeveryone,”saidThakar.“Iamnotsurewhoisgoingtostepupandlead,howevertheplayersthatwillstandoutwillhavetheleadershipqualitiesIwillbelook-ingfor.”

Westminster’s2011all-PAChonorees,Ty-ler Dever(firstteam),Samantha Killmeyer (secondteam),Kelli Michanowicz(hon-orablemention)andShanay Phillian(hon-orablemention),havegraduated,thereforetheTitanswillrelyontheir13returningletter-winners,thatincludes
sixstarters,tocarrythemtothesuccessthattheprogramisaccustomedto.
TeamcaptainandseniorgoalieJenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom)leadsthewaywithtwoyearsofstartingexperienceinthenet.In2011,Cantellawastopfivewithintheconferenceinfivedifferentcategoriesincludingsavepercentage(2nd/.817),saves(2nd/107),savespergame(3rd/5.94),shutouts(3rd/4.5),andgoalsagainstaverage(5th/1.35).
