Safety information

The safe use and operation of this boat isdependent upon the use of proper operat-ing techniques, as well as upon the com-mon sense, good judgment, and expertiseof the operator. Every operator shouldknow the following requirements beforeoperating the boat. Before operating the boat, read the own-

er’s/operator’s manual, the Operation In-struction card, and all labels on the boat. Also, watch the Basic Orientation Videoprovided with your boat. These materialsshould give you an understanding of theboat and its operation.

Never allow anyone to operate this boat un-til they too have read this owner’s/opera-tor’s manual, the Operation Instructioncard, and all labels, and, if possible, watched the Basic Orientation Video.Showing them the video may help reinforcethe information contained in these materi-als.

Limitations on who may operate the boat

Yamaha recommends a minimum operatorage of 16 years old.Adults must supervise use by minors.Know the operator age and training require-ments for your state. A boating safetycourse is recommended and may be re-quired in your state. You can find local rulesby contacting the United States CoastGuard (USCG), the National Association ofState Boating Law Administrators, or yourlocal Power Squadron.

This boat is designed to carry the operator,up to 7 passengers, and cargo. Never ex-ceed the maximum load limit or allow morethan 8 persons (or 7 persons if a water-skieris being pulled) to ride in the boat at anytime. Weight distribution affects perfor-mance. Keep weight in the boat low andevenly distributed from side-to-side andbow-to-stern. Remove any unnecessarycargo and store it on shore.

Maximum load:Total weight of cargo, operator, andpassengers:

562 kg (1240 lb)Total weight of operator and passen-gers:

Cruising limitations Scan constantly for people, objects, and

other watercraft. Be alert for conditions thatlimit your visibility or block your vision ofothers.

Operate defensively at safe speeds andkeep a safe distance from people, objects, and other watercraft.

Do not follow directly behind other water-craft.

Do not go near others to spray or splashthem with water.

Avoid sharp turns or other maneuvers thatmake it hard for others to avoid you or un-derstand where you are going.

Avoid areas with submerged objects orshallow water.

Take early action to avoid collisions. Re-member, boats do not have brakes.

Do not pull the remote control lever back toidle when trying to steer away from ob-jects—you need throttle to steer. Alwayscheck throttle, shift, and steering controlsfor proper operation before starting boat.

Operate within your limits and avoid ag-gressive maneuvers to reduce the risk ofloss of control, ejection, and collision.

This is a high-performance boat—not a toy.Sharp turns or jumping wakes or waves canincrease the risk of back/spinal injury (pa-ralysis), facial injuries, and broken legs, an-kles, and other bones. Do not jump wakesor waves.

Do not operate the boat in rough water, badweather, or when visibility is poor; this maylead to an accident causing injury or death.Be alert to the possibility of adverse weath-er. Take note of weather forecasts and theprevailing weather conditions before settingout in your boat.

Never operate in water that is less than90 cm (3 ft) deep from the bottom of theboat, otherwise you increase your chanceof hitting a submerged object, which couldresult in injury.

Leave a “float plan” with a responsible per-son on shore. Tell where you plan to go andwhen you plan to arrive, and provide a de-scription of your boat. Advise this person ifyour plans change and also when you ar-rive to prevent false alarms. A sample floatplan is included on page 131.

Follow navigation rules and state and locallaws that apply to your boat.

Operational requirements All riders must wear a Coast Guard-ap-

proved personal flotation device (PFD).

1 PFD

Eye protection is recommended to keepwind, water, and glare from the sun out ofyour eyes while you operate your boat. Re-straining straps for eyewear are madewhich are designed to float should youreyewear fall in the water.

Footwear is recommended. Never operate the boat after consuming al-

cohol or taking drugs. For reasons of safety and proper care of the

boat, always perform the pre-operationchecks listed on page 77 before operatingthe boat.

Passengers must always sit in a designatedseating area, place feet on the deck, andhold on to the handgrips when the boat is inmotion.

Always consult your doctor on whether it issafe for you to ride in this boat if you arepregnant or in poor health.

Do not attempt to modify this boat. Modifications to your boat may reduce safe-ty and reliability, and render the boat unsafeor illegal to use.

Attach the engine shut-off cord (lanyard) tothe PFD and keep it free from the steeringwheel or other controls so that the enginestops if the operator accidentally leaves thehelm. Failure to attach the engine shut-offcord (lanyard) could result in a runawayboat if the operator is ejected. After operation, remove the engine shut-offcord (lanyard) and the main switch key toavoid accidental starting or unauthorizeduse by children or others.

Required equipmentThe U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has regula-tions which describe minimum standards ofsafety. You must comply with these regula-tions, which apply to boats like your boatwhich are less than 26 feet long. Personal flotation devices (PFD):

Type I, II, or III as required for all people onboard (see “Operational requirements” formore information), plus at least one Type IV(throwable type).

Fire extinguisher: At least one B-1 type hand-held portablefire extinguisher.

Visual distress signals: It is recommended that a USCG-approvedpyrotechnic device be stored on your boat.A mirror can also be used as an emergencysignal. Contact your Yamaha Boat Dealeror the Coast Guard for more information.

Sound signalling device: Your boat is equipped with a horn that canbe used to signal other boats. See “Rules ofthe road” for more information.

Navigation lights: Your boat is equipped with navigation lightsfor use between sunset and sunrise, andduring periods of reduced visibility, such asfog. Be sure these lights are working andare turned on when necessary (see pages43 and 57 for more information).

Additional equipment recommendations

Safety information

14

Hazard informationNever start the engine or let it run for anylength of time in an enclosed area. Exhaustfumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that may cause loss of con-sciousness and death within a short time. Al-ways operate the boat in an open area.It is also important to have the engine offwhen anyone is using the ladder on modelsequipped with one because of the carbonmonoxide in the exhaust gases coming fromunderneath the step.

Boat characteristics Jet thrust turns the boat. Moving the remote

control lever completely back to idle or theneutral position produces only minimumthrust. If you are traveling at speeds abovetrolling, you will have rapidly decreasingability to steer without throttle. You may stillhave some turning ability immediately aftermoving the remote control lever back toidle, but once the engine slows down, theboat will no longer respond to steeringwheel input until you apply throttle again oryou reach a trolling speed. Practice turningin an open area without obstructions untilyou have a good feel for the maneuver.

This Yamaha boat is water-jet propelled. The pump is directly connected to the en-gine. This means that the jet thrust will pro-duce some movement whenever theengine is running. The boat has a “neutral”position, but since the boat is always pro-ducing thrust while the engine is running, some forward or reverse movement mayoccur.

Do not use the reverse function to slowdown or stop the boat above trolling speedas it could cause you to lose control, beejected, or impact the steering wheel or oth-er parts of the boat. This could increase therisk of serious injury. It could also damagethe shift mechanism.

Reverse can be used to slow down or stopduring slow-speed maneuvering, such aswhen docking. Once the engine is idling, shift to reverse and gradually increase en-gine speed. Make sure that there are no ob-stacles or people behind you before shiftinginto reverse.

Water-skiingYou can use the boat to tow a water-skier, us-ing the ski tow hook provided. It is the boat operator’s responsibility to bealert to the safety of the water-skier and oth-ers. Know and follow all state and local water-skiing regulations in effect for the waters inwhich you will be operating. The following are some important consider-ations for minimizing risks while water-skiing. The skier should wear an approved PFD,

preferably a brightly colored one so boatoperators can see the skier.

The skier should wear protective clothing.Severe internal injuries can occur if water isforced into body cavities as a result of fallinginto the water or while reboarding. Normalswimwear does not adequately protectagainst forceful water entry into the rectumor vagina. The skier should wear a wetsuitbottom or clothing that provides equivalentprotection. Such clothing includes thick, tightly woven, sturdy, and snug-fitting ap-parel such as denim, but does not includespandex or similar fabrics, like those usedin bicycle shorts.

A second person should be on board as aspotter to watch the skier; in most states, itis required by law. Let the skier direct theoperator’s control of speed and directionwith hand signals. Be sure the seat islocked in place (see page 48) before gettingunderway.

When preparing to pull a skier, operate theboat at the slowest possible speed until theboat is well away from the skier and slack inthe tow-rope is taken up. Make sure that therope is not looped around anything. After checking that the skier is ready andthat there is no traffic or other obstacles, ap-ply enough throttle to raise the skier.

Make smooth, wide turns. The boat is capa-ble of very sharp turns, which could exceedthe abilities of the skier. Keep the skier atleast 50 m (164 ft), about twice the distanceof a standard tow-rope, away from any po-tential hazard.

Be alert to the hazard of the tow-rope han-dle snapping back at the boat when the ski-er falls or is unable to get up on the skis.

See pages 6 and 60 for wakeboard tower use.

Rules of the roadYour Yamaha boat is legally considered apowerboat. Operation of the boat must bein accordance with the rules and regula-tions governing the waterway on which itis used.Just as there are rules that apply when youare driving on streets and highways, there arewaterway rules that apply when you are oper-ating your boat. These rules are used interna-tionally, and are also enforced by the UnitedStates Coast Guard and local agencies. Youshould be aware of these rules, and followthem whenever you encounter another vesselon the water.Several sets of rules prevail according to geo-graphic location, but are all basically the sameas the International Rules of the Road. Therules presented here in this owner’s/opera-tor’s manual are condensed, and have beenprovided for your convenience only. Consultyour local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary or De-partment of Motor Vehicles for a complete setof rules governing the waters in which you willbe operating your boat.Steering and sailing rulesWhenever two vessels on the water meet oneanother, one vessel has the right-of-way; it iscalled the “stand-on” vessel. The vessel thatdoes not have the right-of-way is called the“give-way” or “burdened” vessel. These rulesdetermine which vessel has the right-of-way,and what each vessel should do.Stand-on vesselThe vessel with the right-of-way has the dutyto continue its course and speed, except toavoid an immediate collision. When you main-tain your direction and speed, the other vesselwill be able to determine how best to avoidyou.

Give-way vesselThe vessel which does not have the right-of-way has the duty to take positive and timelyaction to stay out of the way of the stand-onvessel. Normally, you should not cross in frontof the vessel with the right-of-way. You shouldslow down or change directions briefly andpass behind the other vessel. You should al-ways move in such a way that the operator ofthe other vessel can see what you are doing. The General Prudential Rule regarding theright-of-way is that if a collision appears un-avoidable, neither boat has the right-of-way.Both boats must avoid the collision. In other words, follow the standard rules ex-cept when a collision will occur unless bothvessels try to avoid each other. If that is thecase, both vessels become give-way vessels.Rules when encountering vesselsThere are three main situations that you mayencounter with other vessels which could leadto a collision unless the Steering Rules are fol-lowed:Meeting: you are approaching another vesselhead-on.Crossing: you are traveling across anothervessel’s path.Overtaking: you are passing or being passedby another vessel.

In the following illustration, your boat is in thecenter. You should give the right-of-way toany vessels shown in the white area (you arethe give-way vessel). Any vessels in the shad-ed area must yield to you (they are the give-way vessels). Both you and the meeting ves-sel must alter course to avoid each other.

MeetingIf you are meeting another power-driven ves-sel head-on, and are close enough to run therisk of collision, neither of you has the right-of-way. Both of you should alter course to avoidan accident. You should keep the other vesselon your port (left) side. This rule does not ap-ply if both of you will clear one another if youcontinue on your set course and speed.

CrossingWhen two power-driven vessels are crossingeach other’s path close enough to run the riskof collision, the vessel which has the other onthe starboard (right) side must keep out of theway of the other. If the other vessel is on yourstarboard (right) side, you must keep out of itsway; you are the give-way vessel. If the othervessel is on your port (left) side, rememberthat you should maintain course and direction, provided the other vessel gives you the right-of-way, as it should.

OvertakingIf you are passing another vessel, you are thegive-way vessel. This means that the othervessel is expected to maintain its course andspeed. You must stay out of its way until youare clear of it. Likewise, if another vessel ispassing you, you should maintain your speedand direction so that the other vessel cansteer itself around you.

19

Other special situationsThere are three other rules you should beaware of when operating your boat aroundother vessels.Narrow channels and bendsWhen navigating in narrow channels, youshould keep to the right when it is safe andpractical to do so. If the operator of a power-driven vessel is preparing to go around abend that may obstruct the view of other watervessels, the operator should sound a pro-longed blast of four to six seconds on thehorn. If another vessel is around the bend, ittoo should sound the horn. Even if no reply isheard, however, the vessel should still pro-ceed around the bend with caution.Fishing vessel right-of-wayAll vessels fishing with nets, lines, or trawlsare considered to be “fishing vessels” underthe International Rules. Vessels with trollinglines are not considered fishing vessels. Fish-ing vessels have the right-of-way regardlessof position. Fishing vessels cannot, however, impede the passage of other vessels in nar-row channels.Sailing vessel right-of-waySailing vessels should normally be given theright-of-way. The exceptions to this are:(1) When the sailing vessel is overtaking the

power-driven vessel, the power-drivenvessel has the right-of-way.

(2) Sailing vessels should keep clear of anyfishing vessel.

(3) In a narrow channel, a sailing vesselshould not hamper the safe passage of apower-driven vessel that can navigateonly in such a channel.

Reading buoys and other markersThe waters of the United States are markedfor safe navigation by the lateral system ofbuoyage. Simply put, buoys and markershave an arrangement of shapes, colors, num-

bers, and lights to show which side of thebuoy a boater should pass on when navigat-ing in a particular direction. The markings onthese buoys are oriented from the perspectiveof being entered from seaward (the boater isgoing towards the harbor). Red buoys arepassed on your starboard (right) side whenproceeding from open water into port, andblack buoys are to your port (left) side. Aneasy way to remember the meaning of thecolors is the phrase “red right returning.”When navigating out of the harbor, your posi-tion with respect to the buoys should be re-versed; red buoys should be to port and blackbuoys to starboard. Many bodies of water used by boaters are en-tirely within the boundaries of a particularstate. The Uniform State Waterway MarkingSystem has been devised for these waters.

This system uses buoys and signs with distinctive shapes and colors to show regulatory or ad-visory information. These markers are white with black letters and orange borders. They signifyspeed zones, restricted areas, danger areas, and general information.

Remember, markings may vary by geographic location. Always consult local boating authori-ties before riding your boat in unfamiliar waters.

Control function operation

Boat control functionsEngine shut-off switch

WARNING

Always attach the engine shut-off cord(lanyard) to your PFD before starting theengine. Failure to attach the cord couldresult in a runaway boat if the operator isejected.

Do not attach the cord to clothing thatcould tear loose. Do not route the cord insuch a way that it could become entan-gled, preventing it from functioning.

Avoid accidentally pulling the cord dur-ing normal operation. Once the enginehas stopped you have no steering con-trol of the boat which could result in anaccident. Also, without engine power, the boat could slow rapidly from planingspeed. This could cause people and ob-jects in the boat to be thrown forward, which could cause injury.

The clip on the end of the engine shut-off cord(lanyard) must be attached to the engine shut-off switch for the engine to run. The cord mustbe attached to a secure place on the opera-tor’s PFD. Should the operator fall overboardor leave the helm, the cord will pull out the clip, stopping ignition to engine. This will preventthe boat from running away under power.

START:The starter motor will turn to start the engine.(When the main switch key is released, it re-turns automatically to “ON”.)

TIP:The engine will not start when the clip is re-moved from the engine shut-off switch. Thestarter motor will turn over without the cord at-tached.

Remote control lever

WARNING

Before shifting, make sure there are noswimmers or obstacles in the water nearyou.

When operating in reverse, go slowly.Do not open the throttle more than half.Otherwise, the boat may become unsta-ble, which could result in loss of controland an accident.

Do not shift into reverse while travelingat planing speeds. Loss of control, boatswamping, or damage to the boat couldoccur.

Moving the remote control lever forward fromthe neutral position into the forward position, and then as the lever is moved farther, accel-erates the engine for more thrust. Moving thelever back from the neutral position into thereverse position, and then as the lever ismoved farther, accelerates the engine formore thrust.

1 Neutral position2 Forward position3 Reverse position4 Shift5 Fully closed6 Throttle7 Fully open

This boat is equipped with a “start-in-gear”protection. The engine will not start unless thelever is in the neutral position. The lever controls the direction of travel. This boat uses a direct-drive propulsion sys-tem. Therefore, jet thrust is always being pro-duced while the engine is running. Thedirection of the boat is controlled by the shiftgate, which directs the flow of the jet thrust asfollows:

NeutralThe shift gate is dropped down part way overthe jet thrust nozzle. Some jet thrust is to therear and some jet thrust is redirected forward. This balance of thrust acts like “neutral” tokeep the boat from moving.

1 Shift gate2 Jet thrust nozzle

ForwardWhen the remote control lever is moved to theforward position, the shift gate is lifted upslightly from the neutral position and jet thrustis redirected downward. This function, whichis called the thrust directional enhancer(TDE), helps to stabilize the forward travel ofthe boat at low speeds. When the remote control lever is moved far-ther forward, the shift gate is lifted all the wayup. All jet thrust is to the rear, which movesthe boat forward.

1 Shift gate2 Jet thrust nozzle

ReverseThe shift gate is dropped all the way downover the jet thrust nozzle. Jet thrust is redirect-ed toward the bow of the boat, which movesthe boat backward.

SteeringYour boat can be steered by turning the steer-ing wheel the same direction you wish to trav-el, to the right or left. When the steering wheelis turned, the angle of the jet thrust nozzle atthe rear of the craft is changed, and thechange in direction of the jet thrust nozzlechanges the direction of the boat accordingly.

1 Steering wheel

Since the strength of the jet thrust determinesthe speed and direction of a turn, the throttlemust always be opened above idle when at-tempting a turn, except at trolling speed.Because boats steer from the stern, the sternof the boat swings out in the opposite directionof your turn. If you turn to starboard, for exam-ple, the stern of the boat will swing to the left.Keep this in mind when navigating near a per-son in the water, such as a down skier, or anobstacle, such as a dock.

Tilt lever

WARNING

Never touch the tilt lever during opera-tion, otherwise the steering wheel couldsuddenly change position, which maylead to an accident.

Be sure the steering wheel is locked inposition after adjustment. If the steeringwheel is not locked in position, it maysuddenly change position during opera-tion, which may lead to an accident.

The tilt lever is located under the steeringwheel and is used to adjust the tilt of the steer-ing wheel. There are 5 positions.

1 Tilt lever

To adjust the tilt:(1) Push the lever down, and then move the

steering wheel up or down to the desiredposition.

(2) The lever will lock into place when thesteering wheel is moved into one of the 5available positions.

(3) Make sure that the tilt lever returns to itsoriginal position and that the steeringwheel is securely locked in place.

Engine overheat warning systemThis model is equipped with an engine over-heat warning system. If the engine starts tooverheat, “Engine Over Temp” will appear onthe LCD. The buzzer also begins to sound. The engine speed is automatically limited tohelp prevent damage. If this occurs, immedi-ately reduce the engine speed, return to shoreor maneuver to a safe location, and check forwater discharge at the cooling water pilot out-let.There is a cooling water pilot outlet on thestarboard side of the hull. Check that watercomes out of the outlet while the engine isrunning, particularly while applying throttle. Ifyou do not see any water at the outlet, coolingwater may not be circulating in the engine.

1 Cooling water pilot outlet

TIP:If cooling water passages in the engine aredry, it will take about 20 seconds for water toreach the pilot outlet after starting.

If water is not circulating, something may beclogging the intake grate. Refer to “Jet pumpclean-out procedure” on page 123.f

Operation and handling requirements

Fuel requirementFuel

WARNING

Gasoline and gasoline vapors are ex-tremely flammable. To avoid fires andexplosions and to reduce the risk of in-jury when refueling, follow these in-structions.

Gasoline is poisonous and can cause in-jury or death. Handle gasoline with care.Never siphon gasoline by mouth. If youshould swallow some gasoline, inhale alot of gasoline vapor, or get some gaso-line in your eyes, see your doctor imme-diately. If gasoline spills on your skin, wash with soap and water. If gasolinespills on your clothing, change yourclothes.

NOTICE

Do not use leaded gasoline. Leaded gas-oline can seriously damage the engine.

Avoid getting water and contaminants inthe fuel tank. Contaminated fuel cancause poor performance and enginedamage. Use only fresh gasoline thathas been stored in clean containers.

GasoholThere are two types of gasohol: gasohol con-taining ethanol and that containing methanol.Gasohol containing ethanol can be used ifethanol content does not exceed 10% and the

fuel meets minimum octane ratings. E-85 is afuel blend containing 85% ethanol and there-fore must not be used in this boat. All ethanolblends containing more than 10% ethanol cancause fuel system damage or engine perfor-mance problems.Yamaha does not recommend gasohol con-taining methanol because it can cause fuelsystem damage and engine performanceproblems. To fill the fuel tank:(1) Before refueling, turn off the engine. Nev-

er refuel while smoking, or while in the vi-cinity of sparks, open flames, or othersources of ignition.

(2) Refuel the boat in a well-ventilated area.If the boat is in the water, be sure it is se-curely moored to the fueling dock. Allpassengers must be out of the boat dur-ing refueling.

(3) Press the fuel tank filler cap button, andthen open the fuel tank filler cap.

(6) Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.(7) Close the fuel tank filler cap by pushing it

until it locks in place. Make sure that thefuel tank filler cap is securely closed.

Ring Free Fuel AdditiveGasoline is a precise blend of many differentsubstances, each chosen to give certain char-acteristics. Gasoline blends have beenchanging in recent years in response to con-cerns about pollution and resulting emissionsregulations. One of the most obvious changeshas been the elimination of lead from fuels. As gasoline has changed, the amount of addi-tives such as aromatics and oxygenates hasincreased. These additives are important forthe engine in passenger cars, but they canhave detrimental effects in marine engines. While many additives available may reducedeposits, Yamaha recommends the use ofRing Free Fuel Additive, available from aYamaha Boat Dealer. Ring Free Fuel Additivehas repeatedly proven its ability to clean com-bustion deposits from inside the engine, nota-bly in the critical piston-ring-land area, andfuel system components. Follow product la-beling for use instructions.

Engine oil requirementEngine oil

NOTICE

Use only 4-stroke engine oil. Usage of 2-stroke engine oil could result in severe en-gine damage.

Select an oil grade according to the averagetemperatures in the area where the boat willbe used.

Checking the engine oil

WARNING

Engine oil is extremely hot immediately af-ter the engine is turned off. Coming in con-tact with or getting any engine oil on yourclothes could result in burns.

Draining the bilge water on waterThis model is equipped with a self-drainingdeck and bilge pump to drain the bilge wateron water.

Self-draining deckMost water which enters the deck area drainsautomatically out the stern through the largedrain hole in the deck.A one-way check valve in the drain preventswater from traveling back to the deck whilethe boat is moored or moving in reverse.

Bilge pumpYour boat is equipped with a drainage systemthat channels water that enters the boat fromthe storage compartments to the bilge underthe engine compartment. When the bilgepump switch is turned on, the bilge pump willdetect when there is excessive water in thebilge and will automatically drain most of itthrough the bilge water outlet. For normal op-eration, turn the bilge pump switch on duringboat use and turn it off when leaving the boat.NOTICE: If the boat is to be left in the waterafter use, leave the bilge pump switch inthe on position. The pump will activate ifneeded to drain any water accumulating inthe bilge.

Engine break-inNOTICE

Failure to perform the engine break-incould result in reduced engine life or evensevere engine damage.

The engine break-in period is essential to al-low the various components of the engine towear and polish themselves to the correct op-erating clearances. This ensures proper per-formance and promotes longer componentlife.(1) Check the engine oil level. (See page 71

for information on checking the engine oillevel.)

(2) Launch the boat and start the engine.(See page 87 for information on startingthe engine.)

(3) For the first 5 minutes, operate with theengine at trolling speed.

(4) For the 30 minutes, operate with the en-gine speed below 5000 r/min.

(5) For the next 1 hour, operate with the en-gine speed below 8000 r/min.

After the engine break-in is complete, the boatcan be operated normally.

Fire extinguisher checkAs an inboard boat less than 26 feet in length, your boat must be fitted with one B-1 type fireextinguisher when navigating waters con-trolled by the U.S. Coast Guard. In addition, most state and local boating laws require thatthe craft carry a USCG-approved fire extin-guisher whenever the boat is operated.Make sure at least one fire extinguisher isaboard and full; two fire extinguishers are rec-ommended. See the instructions supplied by

the extinguisher manufacturer to determinethe indication of the condition. A fire extinguisher is not standard equipmentwith this boat. If you do not have a fire extin-guisher, contact your local Yamaha BoatDealer or fire extinguisher dealer for onemeeting the proper specifications.

Storing the fire extinguisherOne fire extinguisher is to be mounted in theport console storage compartment. The fireextinguisher recommended for this location isa chemical-type extinguisher with a capacityof two pounds or more.

If you choose to have two fire extinguishers, the other fire extinguisher is to be mounted inthe rear underseat storage compartment(port). There is a location label outside thecompartment. This fire extinguisher locatednear the engine compartment should be a“clean agent” type designed to displace oxy-gen, with an inert gas, such as CO2, or FE-36™, and have a capacity of five pounds ormore.

Operating the fire extinguisherA chemical-type fire extinguisher may nothelp when sprayed into the engine compart-ment through the FIRE-PORT™ because thattype needs to be aimed directly at the base ofthe flames to be effective. See below forFIRE-PORT™ information.

1 FIRE-PORT™

A FIRE-PORT™ is mounted below the rearcenter seat. Use this port to spray the con-tents of a fire extinguisher into the enginecompartment if a fire breaks out in the enginearea. WARNING! If there is a fire in the en-gine compartment, opening the hatch willadd more oxygen to the fire, increasing therisk of a larger fire or an explosion. If you see smoke or otherwise suspect a fire, you can look through the transparent flaps ofthe FIRE-PORT™ to look for signs of flames. If there is a fire, push the nozzle of the fire ex-tinguisher through the FIRE-PORT™ and fol-low the manufacturer’s instructions to emptythe contents of the fire extinguisher into theengine compartment.A “clean agent” type fire extinguisher is rec-ommended; a chemical-type fire extinguishermay not be adequate in this application.

Access port cap checkMake sure that the access port cap is secure-ly installed. To check the access port cap:(1) Open the rear platform hatch. (See page

Takethe time to learn the basic techniques well be-fore attempting more difficult maneuvers.Boating with your new boat can be a very en-joyable activity, providing you with hours ofpleasure. But it is essential to familiarize your-self with the operation of the boat to achievethe skill necessary to enjoy boating safely. Before operating this boat, read this own-er’s/operator’s manual, the Operation Instruc-tion card, and all labels on the boat. Payparticular attention to the safety informationbegining on page 10. Also, watch the BasicOrientation Video provided with your boat. These materials should give you an under-standing of the boat and its operation. Thisboat is designed to carry one operator and upto seven passengers.

Learning to operate your boatBefore boating, always perform the pre-oper-ation checks listed on page 77. The short timespent checking the boat will reward you withadded safety and reliability.Know and follow U.S. Coast Guard, state, andlocal laws when operating your boat.Select a wide area to learn in, where visibilityis good and other boat traffic is light. Keep theproper distance from other boats and vehi-

cles. Do not operate where people are swim-ming.

Always attach the engine shut-off cord (lan-yard) to your PFD before operating. You and all other passengers must alwayswear a USCG-approved PFD when riding inthe boat. You should consider wearing watershoes, eye protection, and other protectiveapparel. Water sports increase your risk of in-jury from contact with your boat, other ves-sels, docks, rocks, or coral.Grip the steering wheel firmly and keep bothfeet on the deck when driving the boat.

Do not apply throttle when anyone is atthe rear of the boat. Turn the engine offor keep it at idle. Water and debris exit-ing the jet thrust nozzle can cause se-vere injury.

(1) Always make sure the boat is launchedand used in waters that are free fromweeds and debris, and at least 90 cm(3 ft) deep from the bottom of the boat.WARNING! Never operate in water thatis less than 90 cm (3 ft) deep from thebottom of the boat. You increase yourchance of hitting an underwater ob-stacle. You could be injured. Pebblesor sand can also be sucked into the jetintake, damaging the impeller.

If the engine does not start after 5seconds of cranking, release the switch.Wait at least 15 seconds before trying tostart the engine again.

NOTICE

Never turn the main switch to the startposition while the engine is running. Thestarter mechanism could be damaged.

If the starter motor is engaged continu-ously for more than 5 seconds, the bat-tery will become quickly discharged andit will be impossible to start the engine. The starter motor may also be damagedif it is engaged continuously for morethan 5 seconds.

On this boat, the engine is connected directlyto the drive unit. Starting the engine gener-ates some thrust immediately. Only enoughthrottle should be applied to keep the engineat a fast enough idle to stay running.

Stopping the engine

WARNING

Once the engine has stopped, you haveNO STEERING CONTROL over the boat. You could collide with another boat, adock, or other obstacle.

Stopping the engine immediately after operat-ing at high engine speeds is not recommend-ed. Let the engine cool off at idle or low speedfor a few minutes first. To stop the engine:(1) Return the remote control lever to the

neutral position.(2) Turn the main switch to the off position.

TIP:The engine can also be stopped by pulling theengine shut-off cord (lanyard).(3) Remove the main switch key and the en-

gine shut-off cord (lanyard) if the boat willbe left unattended.

Leaving a dockBecause boats steer from the stern, the sternfirst moves in the direction opposite your de-sired turn. It is especially important to under-stand this characteristic when leaving a dock.If you simply turn the steering wheel to steerthe bow away from the dock, as you wouldwhen driving a car out of a parking space, youwill drive the stern of the boat into the dock. The following steps are basic maneuveringtechniques which can be used in most circum-stances:(1) With the engine idling and the bow still

moored to the dock, turn the steeringwheel toward the dock. This will start tomove the stern of the boat away from thedock.

(2) When the stern is out a few feet, releasethe bow mooring, and then steer in the di-rection you want the bow to move. Openthe throttle slightly and begin to moveaway from the dock.

Turning the boat

WARNING

Do not pull the remote control lever backto idle when trying to steer away fromobjects — you need throttle to steer.

Be sure passengers are holding on be-fore making turns. An unprepared pas-senger could lose balance and fall.

Steering control depends on the combinationof steering wheel position and the amount ofthrottle.Water sucked in through the intake grate ispressurized by the impeller in the jet pump. Asthe pressurized water is expelled from thepump through the jet thrust nozzle, it createsthrust to move and steer the boat. The higherthe engine speed, the more thrust is pro-duced.The amount of jet thrust, in addition to the po-sition of the steering wheel, determines howsharply you turn.A. More throttle produces high thrust, so the

boat will turn more sharply.

B. Less throttle produces low thrust, so theboat will turn more gradually.

C. Pulling the remote control lever back toidle or neutral position produces onlyminimum thrust. If you are traveling atspeeds above trolling, you will have rap-idly decreasing ability to steer withoutthrottle. You may still have some turningability immediately after pulling the re-mote control lever back to idle, but whenthe engine slows down, the boat will nolonger respond to steering wheel inputuntil you apply throttle again or you reacha trolling speed. At trolling speed, the boat can be turnedgradually by steering wheel positionalone using just the amount of thrustavailable at engine idle.

D. If the boat is moving and the remote con-trol lever is in neutral position, or if thereis no thrust because the engine isstopped, the boat will go straight eventhough the steering wheel is turned. Youneed throttle to steer.

Your boat is designed for one operator and upto seven passengers only. Never have morethan eight people in the boat. Passengersmust sit in one of the seats and hold onto thehandgrips. Passengers should sit so theweight in the boat is balanced from side-to-side and bow-to-stern as much as possible. Ifthe passenger seat in front of the helm isused, be sure the operator’s view ahead is notobstructed.

Stopping the boat

WARNING

Allow adequate stopping distance. Take early action to avoid collisions. Re-

member, boats do not have brakes. Operate defensively at safe speeds and

keep a safe distance away from people, objects, and other boats to give you timeto stop.

Do not shut the engine off when slowingdown in case you need engine power tosteer away from a boat or other obstaclethat comes into your path.

You will lose steering control if youcompletely pull the throttle back to idle. You need throttle to steer.

Do not use the reverse function to slowdown or stop the boat from planingspeed as it could cause you to lose con-trol, be ejected, or impact the steeringwheel or other parts of the boat. Thiscould increase the risk of serious injury.

The boat is not equipped with a separatebraking system. It is stopped by water resis-tance after the remote control lever is movedback to idle. From full speed, the boat stops inapproximately 96 m (315 ft) after the remotecontrol lever is moved back to idle. The stop-ping distance varies depending on grossweight, water surface conditions, and wind di-rection. The stated straight-line stopping dis-tance should be used for a reference. Theboat slows down as soon as the remote con-trol lever is returned to idle but will coast for adistance before fully stopping. If you are notsure you can stop in time before hitting an ob-stacle, apply throttle and turn in another direc-tion.

Boarding from the water

WARNING

To avoid severe injury or death, do notboard from the rear, use swim platform, orswim behind boat if engine is running. Severe internal injuries can occur if wa-

ter is forced into body cavities as a re-sult of being near the jet thrust nozzle.

Exhaust gases coming from underneaththe swim platform contain carbon mon-oxide, a colorless, odorless gas whichmay cause brain damage or death wheninhaled. Symptoms include nausea, diz-ziness, and drowsiness.

(1) Be sure the engine is off, and then moveto the stern of the boat.

(2) Pull out the ladder and climb up onto theswim platform. (See page 59 for informa-tion on ladder.)

(3) Return the ladder to the stowed position, and then sit in one of the seats provided.

Boarding from a dock or landing jetty(1) Board the boat from the side. One person

should board at a time by stepping intothe boat. Never jump in. Avoid steppingon slick gelcoat surfaces on the boat’sgunwales, especially if wet.

(2) Sit in one of the seats provided and putboth feet on the deck.

Docking(1) Make sure no obstructions, boats or

swimmers are close to the boat. Come toa stop before you reach the dock.

(2) Notice how wind and water currents areaffecting boat movement as you attachyour mooring lines and fenders.

(3) Approach the dock at idle speed. Use re-verse as necessary during slow-speedmaneuvering to help control speed anddirection. Position the boat according towind and water conditions. WARNING!Do not use your hand, arm, or otherparts of your body to try to keep theboat from hitting the dock. You couldbe injured if the boat pushes againstthe dock.

Beaching

NOTICE

Small pebbles, sand, seaweed, and oth-er debris can be sucked into the jet in-take and impair or damage the impeller.Always stop the engine before beachingthe boat. Be sure the boat is in water90 cm (3 ft) deep from the bottom of theboat before starting the engine again.

Do not beach the boat on rocky beach-es. The hull gelcoat and exposed pumphousings can be damaged.

Pay attention to shifts in tides. Beachingat high tide may make it impossible tore-launch the boat if the tide recedes.

(1) Make sure no obstructions, boats orswimmers are near the beach.

(2) Approach the beach slowly and stop theengine when the water is about 90 cm(3 ft) deep from the bottom of the boat.Remember: turning is impossible with theengine stopped.

(3) Get out of the boat and pull the bow up onthe beach.

(4) When leaving the beach, push the boatout into water that is at least 90 cm (3 ft)deep from the bottom of the boat beforestarting the engine.

Anchoring

WARNING

Always anchor from the bow. Anchoringfrom the stern will make the boat un-steady. A strong current can pull a stern-anchored boat underwater.

Select an anchor appropriate for your boatand water conditions. A “Danforth” (or fluke)type anchor is suitable for most applications;your Yamaha Boat Dealer can help youchoose an anchor.(1) Make sure the anchor line is securely tied

to the anchor and to the bow eye or a bowcleat.

(2) Move the boat to the spot where you wantto lower the anchor, heading the boat intothe wind or current. Stop the boat, andthen lower the anchor until it hits bottom.

(3) While keeping tension on the line, slowlyback up the boat until you have let out linethat is 4–6 times the depth of the water. For example, if you are anchoring in 10feet of water, let out 40–60 feet of line.Secure the line.

(4) Pull on the line to be sure the anchor isholding. Also, periodically check yourboat’s position against the shoreline tomake sure it is not drifting and draggingthe anchor. Reset if necessary.

(5) To pull in (“weigh”) the anchor, start theengine and move forward, keeping ten-sion on the line as you pull it in. When theanchor line is straight up and down, pullhard to lift the anchor from the bottommaterial.

(6) If the anchor is stuck on the bottom, trythis: Let out a few feet of anchor line andsecure the line to the boat, again. Slowlymaneuver the boat around the anchoruntil the anchor pulls loose. Keep the linetaut during this procedure.

Crossing wakes and swellsYou will not always have flat, smooth water. There will be swells and wakes from otherboats, etc.The best way to cross wakes and swells iswith the least jolt to you and the boat. Smallswells are not as difficult to cross as largerswells or wakes. Crossing a sharp wake givesmore of a jolt than a broad swell.

96

To cross a wake or swell, change your speedand choose the angle at which you cross thewake or swell. Usually, a slower speed and“quartering” the wake (crossing at an angle)will reduce the jolt. Two other things you may notice. The first isthat crossing a group of wakes or swells is notas easy or smooth as crossing just one wake. The second is that when you quarter the wakeor swell, the boat will try to steer away fromthe wake or swell. When crossing at a 45° an-gle, you may not notice this, but at a smallerangle, say 10°, it can be very strong. Be pre-pared to steer and balance as necessary.

Post-operation checksThese post-operation procedures are devel-oped to help preserve the long-term appear-ance and reliability of your boat. Performthese procedures as soon as possible afterthe boat is loaded back on the trailer after theday’s use. Some owners prefer to moor their boat sea-sonally, rather than keeping it on the trailerbetween uses. Extended mooring is not rec-ommended. Proper flushing of the coolingsystem is not possible with the boat in the wa-ter. In addition, conditions such as stray elec-trical voltage in the water, marine organisms, and saltwater corrosion can adversely affectthe life of many boat components. NOTICE:Leaving the boat in the water for extendedperiods will accelerate the rate of normaldeterioration of the jet pump components, sacrificial anodes, hull finish and othercomponents. If you do decide to moor your boat, be sure toremove it from the water periodically to cleanthe hull and jet pump area. The frequency ofmaintenance required will depend uponwhether the water is salt water or fresh waterand other local water conditions.(1) After putting the boat on the trailer, flush

the cooling system to prevent the coolingsystem from clogging up with salt, sand,or dirt. Refer to page 102 for the coolingsystem flushing procedure.

(2) Drain residual water from the exhaustsystem by starting the engine, and thenalternately pushing the remote control le-ver up to half throttle and back to idle for10 to 15 seconds. NOTICE: Never runthe engine at full throttle or for morethan 15 seconds while the boat is outof the water. The engine may overheatand/or seize.

If the boatwill be transported on the trailer any dis-tance, temporarily reinstall the cap andclose the hatch until you get home. Openthe hatch again when you arrive and re-move the cap as before. Leave the caploose until you plan to transport the boaton the trailer again. NOTICE: Leavingthe access port cap out when you arenot using or transporting the boathelps keep it from becoming stuck inthe access port.

(6) Remove the hull drain plugs, the enginecompartment drain plug, and the fuel tankcompartment drain plug. (See page 73.)

(7) Rinse the engine compartment with asmall amount of fresh water. Be carefulnot to get water on the air filter area orelectrical components. Allow any water inthe bilge to drain out. After the water hasdrained, wipe the engine compartmentand bilge with dry rags.

(8) Reinstall all drain plugs. NOTICE: Tight-en the hull drain plugs securely beforelaunching the boat. Otherwise, watermay flood the boat and cause it to sub-merge. Clean any foreign material, such as dirt or sand, from the threadsbefore installing the drain plugs.

(9) Spray a rust inhibitor, such as YamahaSilicone Protectant and Lubricant, on me-tallic parts to minimize corrosion.

Trailering

Trailering the boatWARNING

Avoid accident and injury from impropertrailering: The trailer must be matched for the

boat’s weight and hull. The towing vehicle must have the capac-

ity of pulling the load. Pulling a load thatexceeds the towing capacity may causeloss of control.

Be sure the boat is secured to the trailerand the trailer is properly hitched to thetowing vehicle before towing.

A trailer is provided as standard equipmentwith your boat. If you need to obtain anothertrailer, choose one that is manufactured tocarry a boat of the size and weight of yourboat. Check the certification label on the leftforward side of the trailer. This label is re-quired to show the Gross Vehicle Weight Rat-ing (GVWR), which is the load carryingcapacity of the trailer plus the trailer’s weight.Be sure that the total weight of your boat, anycargo, and the trailer weight itself does not ex-ceed the GVWR.

HitchThe trailer hitch ball must match the size ofthe socket on the trailer hitch coupler. Hitchesare divided into classes that specify the GrossTrailer Weight (GTW) and the maximumtongue weight. Always use a hitch rated forthe same or higher class. Use a bolted-on orwelded-on hitch; clamp-on bumper hitchesare not recommended. Be sure the trailerhitch’s release handle is latched with the lockpin installed before towing.Use safety chains between the towing vehicleand the trailer so the trailer will not detachcompletely from the towing vehicle if it acci-

dentally comes loose from the hitch ball.Crisscross the chains under the trailer tongueso the tongue will not hit the road surface if itfalls loose. Rig the chains as tightly as possi-ble while allowing just enough slack to permittight turns.Be sure the tongue weight (vertical weight onthe hitch point) is correct. Generally, 5% to10% of the combined weight of the boat andtrailer should be on the tongue. Too much ortoo little weight can cause difficult steering ortrailer swaying.

Trailering checklist Check your state laws to be sure your trailer

meets all regulations, such as proper li-censing, brake, axle load, and safety chainrequirements.

Check the trailer for any loose fasteners ordamaged parts.

Check the tires for proper inflation. Check the wheel bearings and wheel lug

nuts before each trip. Check the tail, brake, and turn signal lights

for proper operation.

Secure the bow of the boat to the trailer withthe winch line and also with the chain. Se-cure the stern eyes to the trailer with tie-downs.

1 Bow eye

1 Stern eye

Take down and store the bimini top, if used. The bimini top is not designed to stay unse-cured on the boat at highway speeds. Seepage 66 or 69.

Carry a spare tire for the trailer, along withsufficient tools to change the tire.

While traveling, check the wheel hubs onthe trailer whenever you park. If a hub feelsabnormally hot, have the bearing inspectedbefore continuing your trip. On longer trips,it is a good idea to carry a set of sparewheel bearings, seals, and races.

When making a turn, do not cut corners. The trailer has a smaller turning circle so it

turns more sharply around the corner thanthe towing vehicle.

Backing your trailerIt takes practice to back a trailer successfully. If you are not familiar backing up with a trailer, practice first in an open area away from ob-stacles.

Keep the following points in mind when backing up Back slowly. Make steering adjustments in

small steps. Turn the towing vehicle’s wheels opposite

the direction you want the trailer to go. After the trailer begins moving, turn the tow-

ing vehicle to follow it. Have a second person stand by to help di-

rect you with hand signals.

LaunchingAs a courtesy to other boaters, prepare yourboat for launching before using the ramp. Each launch may have particular differences, such as ramp angle, prevailing wind, waves, and water currents. If possible, watch a cou-ple of boaters launch their boats first to noticeany problems. While every boater develops apreferred launch procedure, here is a recom-mended general procedure:

(3) Disconnect the trailer lights from the tow-ing vehicle.

(4) Back the trailer down the ramp as closeto 90° to the shoreline as you can. If pos-sible, have a second person stand asideas an observer. Stop when the wheelsare at least halfway submerged. Set theparking brake.

(5) Remove the bow line from the bow eye.(6) Back the trailer farther into the water until

just the tops of the fenders show, andthen reset the parking brake. Board theboat and start it. If possible, remain on thetrailer until the engine is warm and is re-sponding to throttle.

(7) Back the boat out into the water, watch-ing carefully for people, other boats, orobstacles.

Loading(1) Disconnect the trailer lights from the tow-

ing vehicle.(2) Back the trailer down the ramp as close

to 90° to the shoreline as you can. If pos-sible, have a second person act as an ob-

server while standing to the side of thetrailer. Stop when the tops of the trailer’sfenders are about 3 inches above the wa-terline.

(3) With the boat moving at the slowest idlespeed, guide the boat onto the supportrails. Use throttle only if necessary forsteering ability. WARNING! Using toomuch throttle can cause the boat tojump over the front of the trailer whichcan result in injury to the boat opera-tor and bystanders.

(4) Make sure the boat is centered on thesupport rails and is headed straight forthe bow stop (bumper board). Ease theboat forward until the bow rests againstthe bow stop. NOTICE: The winch lineis not designed to pull the boat ontothe trailer.

(5) Attach and tighten the winch line.NOTICE: The winch line should not bethe only line securing the bow duringtrailering. Use the chain along with thewinch to secure the boat to the trailer.

NOTICE

Do not attach lifting cables to the bow eye, cleats, stern eyes, ski tow hook, or hand-grips. Serious damage to the boat can oc-cur. Use only a sling designed specificallyfor lifting boats.

If you need to remove the boat from the waterwithout a trailer, use these guidelines: Use a sling-type lifting mechanism de-

signed for lifting boats. The sling should becovered with a protective material to pre-vent damage to the hull gelcoat.

Use spreader bars to avoid side stress tothe hull that may cause cracks in thegelcoat and fiberglass.

Attach guidelines to the bow eye and sterneyes to control movement of the boat dur-ing lifting.

Remove all people and all cargo from theboat. Drain any excess water from the bilgeusing the bilge pump.

Be sure all people are standing clear, andthen lift boat slowly and just far enough toverify that the boat is securely held andproperly balanced. If necessary, lower theboat again and adjust the slings.

Long-term storageStoring your boat for prolonged periods oftime, such as winter storage, requires preven-tative maintenance to ensure against deterio-ration. It is advisable to have the boat servicedby an authorized Yamaha Boat Dealer beforestorage. However, the following procedurescan be performed by the owner with a mini-mum of tools.

Fuel systemFill the fuel tank with fresh fuel, adding oneounce of Yamaha Fuel Conditioner and Stabi-lizer or an equivalent to each gallon of fuel.(See page 70 for information on filling the fueltank.) Do not “top off” the tank, because fuelcould spill. A full fuel tank is less likely to allowcondensation to collect in the tank, reducingthe chance of contaminated fuel. Running theengine with treated fuel during cooling systemflushing will also help protect the fuel system.

TIP:Use of Yamaha Fuel Conditioner and Stabiliz-er eliminates the need to drain the fuel sys-tem. Consult a Yamaha Boat Dealer or otherqualified mechanic if the fuel system is to bedrained instead.

LubricationIt is advisable to take the boat to a YamahaBoat Dealer to have the engine fogged forlong-term storage.

Grease pointsTo keep moving parts sliding or rotatingsmoothly, coat them with water-resistantgrease.

Throttle cableGrease the throttle-cable inner wires at thepulley wheel of the APS.

Steering cable ball joints and inner wireGrease the steering cable and shift cable balljoints at the jet thrust nozzle. Extend the steer-ing cable and shift cable inner wires and applya thin coat of grease to them.

Checking the sacrificial anodeAn aluminum alloy anode is mounted on thejet pump outlet on your boat. Galvanic corro-sion can damage metal surfaces below thewaterline on any boat, particularly in salt wa-ter. This sacrificial anode is designed to erodefirst, before metal components of your jetpump outlet are seriously damaged.

1 Anode

Check the anode each time the boat is re-moved from the water. It is normal for it to lookcorroded and rough. Replace the anode whenit is approximately one half of its original size.

NOTICE

Failure to replace the anode when nec-essary can result in permanent damageto the jet pump outlet and other metalcomponents on the boat.

Never paint the anode. A coating of anykind will prevent the anode from func-tioning, exposing other components togalvanic corrosion damage.

Replacing the sacrificial anodeWhen the anode has eroded to approximatelyone half its original size, it should be replaced.Ask a Yamaha Boat Dealer for this service oryou can do it yourself if you have a torquewrench of the proper type.(1) Unscrew the two mounting bolts that se-

cure the anode to the jet pump outlet.(2) Clean the mounting-bolt threads, and

then coat them with Loctite® 242, avail-able from a Yamaha Boat Dealer.

(3) Install the new anode. Tighten the mount-ing bolts to the specified torque.

These general guidelines apply to many com-monly used battery types (but not, for exam-ple, to maintenance-free batteries). Consultthe battery manufacturer’s instructions beforeperforming battery maintenance.Check the level of the battery fluid and see ifthe terminals are tight. Add distilled water ifthe fluid level is low.

NOTICE

Be careful not to place the battery on itsside.

Remove the battery from the boat beforeadding distilled water or recharging.

Before replenishing the battery fluid and re-charging the battery, remove the battery fromthe boat. After completing the procedures, in-stall the battery. (See page 106 for battery re-moval and installation procedures.)

Replenishing the battery fluidA poorly maintained battery will deterioratequickly. The battery fluid should be checkedbefore every outing.Fill to the manufacturer’s recommended levelwhen necessary. Top up only with distilledwater (or pure de-ionized water) suitable touse in batteries. NOTICE: Normal tap watercontains minerals which are harmful to abattery; therefore, refill only with distilledwater.

Recharging

WARNING

When charging the battery, keep it wellaway from sparks and open flames, as itgives off explosive gases.

When using a battery charger, connectthe battery to the charger before youturn on the charger. This will preventsparking at the terminals that could ig-nite battery gases.

(1) Remove the caps from the cells. Add dis-tilled water if necessary to top up theelectrolyte to the proper level.

(2) Follow the battery manufacturer’s instruc-tions for charging.

Severe injury or death may result if you ig-nore any of the following: Turn off and remove the main switch

key, remove the clip from the engineshut-off switch, and wait for all move-ment to stop before removing the ac-cess port cap.

Never override the interlocks to run theengine with the rear platform hatchopen.

The impeller has sharp edges. Be care-ful when reaching into jet pump area.

If weeds or debris get caught in the intake orimpeller, cavitation can occur, and though theengine speed rises, forward thrust will de-crease. If this condition is allowed to continue, jet pump damage can occur and the enginemay overheat and seize. If there is any signthat the jet intake or impeller is clogged withweeds or debris, follow this clean-out proce-dure.(1) Turn off and remove the main switch key,

remove the clip from the engine shut-offswitch, and wait for all movement to stop.

to be inspected and re-registered by an authorized Yamaha Boat dealer for the policy to remain effective.

Yamaha Service MarketingP.O. Box 6555Cypress, CA 906301-(866)-YES-EXTD(1-866-937-3983)

• Y.E.S. is flexible. You choose the plan that’s right for you: 12 months, 24 months, or 36 months beyond the 1-year warranty cover-age period. That means you can get up to 5 years of coverage on the power train, controls, and other components to match the comforting 5-year standard protection on the hull.

• Y.E.S. is designed and administered by the same Yamaha people who handle your war-ranty–and it shows in the comprehensive coverage benefits. There are no limitations on hours of use. Coverage isn’t limited to “moving parts” or the “drive train” like many other plans. And Y.E.S. covers manufactur-ing defects just like the warranty. See the sample contract at your Yamaha dealer to see how comforting uninterrupted factory-backed protection can be.

• You don’t have to pay anything for cov-ered repairs. There’s no deductible to pay, and repairs aren’t “prorated.” You don’t have any “out-of-pocket” expenses for covered repairs.

• In addition, Travel and Recreation Interruption Protection (TRIP) is included at no extra cost. TRIP gives you up to $250 reimbursement per occurrence for any rea-

sonable expenses you incur because your Yamaha needs covered service: replace-ment vehicle rental, emergency towing, phone calls, even food and lodging when you are away from home. This superb cov-erage goes into effect when you purchase Y.E.S., so it applies to any warranty repairs as well as covered repairs during your entire Y.E.S. plan period.

• Y.E.S. coverage is honored at any autho-rized Yamaha dealer nationwide.

• Y.E.S. coverage is transferable to a new owner if you sell or trade-in. That can make your Yamaha Boat much more valuable!
