ADULT CLASSES

ESSENTIAL ACTOR TRAINING For the adult actor, we offer a series of classes designed to prepare actors to succeed in the profession, focusing on skills that are basic, yet essential, ongoing techniques in the actors’ toolbox. It is strongly recommended that actors take all three sessions of Essential Actor Training before enrolling in Session Four: Advanced Scene Study and Monologue Work Out, as we are seeking to build a common foundation for ongoing classes. However, admission to Session Four is by permission of the instructor, and actors with extensive theater experience/training may apply directly.

ADULT CLASSES

ESSENTIAL SHAKESPEARE TRAININGIf you are an actor who is afraid of Shakespeare, you just haven’t met the right classes. It’s truly not intimidating once you learn the basics. With that in mind, we’ve distilled the essential techniques into three classes designed to eliminate your “Shakesfeare”. These classes need not be taken in order, however paraphrasing is the crucial first step, so we will review it at the beginning of each session. No Shakespeare experience is required. For each class, students must choose and bring a speech in verse, 12 - 20 lines in length. Suggestions are available by instructor prior to the class.

PARAPHRASINGThe first rehearsals of any Orlando Shakes production are devoted to paraphrasing. In this class, actors will learn how to paraphrase Shakespeare into modern speech, find an emotional connection to the lines, and translate those discoveries to Shakespeare’s text. l DATES:October 9 - 30, 2012 (4 weeks) l TUITION:$150l TIMES:Tuesdays, 7 - 10 p.m.

BREATHActors will explore the differing techniques of Grammatical Breath and Verse Line Breath, the benefits of each, and how to choose and use each when acting Shakespeare.l DATES:January 29 - February 19, 2013 (4 weeks) l TUITION:$150l TIMES:Tuesdays, 7 - 10 p.m.

COMPARISON & CONTRASTActors will identify antithesis, key words, and word play, and learn to find in them clues to characterization, motivation, and staging.l DATES:April 16 - May 7, 2013 (4 weeks) l TUITION:$150l TIMES:Tuesdays, 7 - 10 p.m.
