Page 2: 2013 Annual Summary

While you may see a few

new faces at the Community

Foundation, the mission

on which we have built our

organization — to promote,

facilitate and expand philanthropy

through responsible giving — has

not changed.

This year, our board of trustees

embarked on a thoughtful and

deliberate process to explore our

position in the community and

determine the role we will play

as we enter our third decade.

Through discussions with donors,

private and family foundations,

professional advisors, and friends,

we learned that the Foundation

is valued for its history of service

and viewed as a trusted partner

in philanthropy. We also learned

that our stakeholders want us to

take on an even greater leadership

role in educating our community

about the importance of giving.

Armed with this information,

and through a rigorous planning

process, our board developed

a strategic plan that defines

our role in the community and

our obligations to fundholders.

Central Carolina Community

Foundation will be:

• The expert in philanthropy

and the catalyst for charitable

growth in the Midlands.

• The trusted steward for

philanthropy.

• The knowledgeable

educator for fundholders.

Our work focuses on making

donor dreams a reality, both now

and after they are gone, so that

their charitable wishes are carried

out into perpetuity. Giving is part

art and part science, and figuring

out the mix involves experience

and dedication. We are up for

the task.

On behalf of the Community

Foundation’s board of trustees

and staff, we thank our donors

and partners for their generosity

and giving spirit, and for making

our community a place we are

proud to call home.

Year Two of $1 MillionLiteracy Commitment

In June, Central Carolina Community

Foundation awarded $377,650 in Impact

Grants to seven organizations providing a

variety of evidence-based programs with

innovative twists on collaboration and

partnerships. Together, these grants reach

out to 10 of the 11 counties within the

Foundation’s footprint and, collectively,

could reach more than 17,000 children

through literacy programs.

The grant awards will benefit hard to

reach rural populations through home

visitation, integrate early childhood

literacy into pediatric practices and

transform communities into those whose

children are ready for school. These

grants are part of the board of trustee’s

three-year $1 million commitment

toward literacy improvement across the

Midlands.
