Climbers With Christ2013 Fall Belay Training

Minnehaha Rocks Spokane WA September 14, 8am-4pm

Over the years weve run across many in the church body who seem to be wired for, or have been drawn towards the outdoors mission-field butfeel lacking in skills and know-how to go forward. Our intent in offering this belay training is therefore two fold. First: To enable you to help us sharethe gospel here through the work of CWC. Secondly: To possibly spark an interest that may in turn open new doors in your own lives and peer circleson an individual, family and friends, or larger level.

The skill of safely belaying another climber is the most widely used and by far the most needed climbing skill when it comes to our work locally as anoutdoor ministry. This is a single day clinic/class that if completed with competency, fulfills CWC belay requirements, enabling you to confidentlybelay top-roped climbers in managed environments, both on indoor wall climbs and outdoors rock climbing.

Top-rope belay system. The main safety system used on our outings is a top-rope climbing system where the rope is run through an establishedanchor at the top of the climb with both ends of the rope touching the ground. It is a counter-balance system in which the climber ties into (or isclipped into) one end of the rope, and the belayer connects to the other end via a brake device. The belayer manages the rope by removing slackas the climber climbs higher on the wall or rock. When properly implemented the possibility of a top-roped climber falling is really non-existent,though he or she mayswingsomewhat if they have climbed very far left or right of the overhead anchor.
