The group was later joined by Tony DaSilva, a first generation Portuguese-American and Mineola native who currently is an instructor and dancer. The repertoire of these traditional dances has its origin in the cultural roots of the Minho region of northern Portugal. The beautiful and richly embroidered costumes, as well as the dancers’ castanholas (castanets) are also native to this region. In its 28th year, the Ranchos now consists of five concertina (diatonic accordion) players, along with seven singers and a multitude of dancers.
