Golf TournamentMonday, November 18, Noon – 5:00 p.m.

It’s like no other golf experience in the Southeast Texas area. The preferred golf club of Houston’s professional sports teams, Wildcat’s two spectacular golf courses — designed by Roy Case — are located just south of Houston. Both courses feature elevations of up to 100 feet providing spectacular views of Houston’s downtown skyline, the Galleria and the Reliant Stadium complex. Wildcat combines links layouts with Texas Hill Country topography, Houston hospitality and the fun, competitive spirit of Houston’s sports teams.

The tournament will take place at the Wildcat Golf Course. We are set for a shotgun start at noon. Registration for the ITS Texas Golf Tournament will include 18 holes of golf and a boxed lunch, as well as a great opportunity to spend some time with clients. Vendors and consultants, this is a great opportunity to build and strengthen relationships.

2013 ITS Procurement WorkshopMonday, November 18, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

All state and local agencies that deploy ITS projects are challenged to find ways to acquire ITS technologies and deployment services in ways that meet their objectives, fulfill requirements emerging from those objectives, minimize adversarial relationships with providers, and reduce the risk of stalled, delayed or unsuccessful projects. Many agencies struggle to fit ITS deployment projects into product acquisition molds, while other agencies struggle to fit them into conventional construction molds. Both of these often lead to projects that do not fulfill the expectations of the agencies undertaking them.

This course will provide an overview of strategies for successfully deploying ITS projects that build on existing systems engineering principles and practices. The course will first lay a foundation of systems engineering principles to provide a common ground for later discussion. Then, it will present the following general outline of topics: how to buy software, how to buy infrastructure, and how to manage projects.

Some of the questions answered will include:

• Howdoweknowwhenwearedone?

The workshop will take place on Monday, November 18, at the Omni Hotel from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch at noon. In keeping with this year’s theme of Projects: Where Technology Hits the Road, this session will focus on two key projects in the Houston metropolitan area and how ITS is integrated into them. The first project is the reconstruction of US 290 (Northwest Freeway) and the interchange between US 290 and IH 610. The second project is the expansion of light rail throughout Houston by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County.

SESSION 2B: INCIdENT MANAGEMENT

Congestion on our highways can be attributed to planned and unplanned incidents such as crashes, stalls, road debris, special events and construction. Incident management is increasingly seen as a cost-effective approach to alleviating this component of congestion and maintaining the operation of our roads. When an incident occurs during high travel demand or on a facility without adequate capacity, the resulting congestion has even greater impact on the transportation network. This session will focus on the implementation of incident management and ITS programs to help detect incidents; identify necessary response; manage, clear and even prevent some secondary incidents to improve safety; maintain traffic flow; and reduce congestion.
