We share this journey with youMultiCare has a deep bond with the communities we serve. Our South Sound roots extend to the founding of Tacoma’s first hospital, the Fannie C. Paddock Memorial Hospital, in 1882. Today, our health care mission has evolved into a fully integrated health system composed of five hospitals and a network of clinics serving the health care needs of the entire South Puget Sound region. Though our medical technologies have changed greatly over the years, our devotion to the health, comfort and wellbeing of our patients remains as strong as when Bishop Paddock began his healing ministry in this community 132 years ago.

As the premier health system in our region, we care deeply about improving the health of the people we serve and are passionate about finding new and better ways to help individuals on their path to better health and wellness.

Together with other community organizations, we are focusing on addressing the major health issues in our region. Our efforts include:

• Programsthathelpfamiliesunderstandthebuildingblocksofahealthylifestyle.

• Servicesthatensurethatelderlyandvulnerablepatientsgetthecaretheyneed,withcomfort,convenienceandrespect.

• Partnershipsthroughoutourcommunitytohelpabusedandneglectedchildrenintimesofcrisis.

• Manyadditionalvitalservicesforthebenefitofthegreatercommunity.

In 2013 alone MultiCare provided free and subsidized health care services valued at $152 million at our care sites throughout the region, Of course, the true human value of this investment is immeasurable. As our communities grow and their needs evolve, our dedication to the people we serve remains as strong as ever.

Home Health ResourcesSupport for managing illness and recovery at home

One of the ways MultiCare provides quality patient care is by delivering it where patients are most comfortable: in their own homes. Our Home Health program enlists patients and caregivers to be a part of a medical team that includes physicians, registered and licensed practical nurses, therapists, medical social workers and home health aides. Together they create an individualized care plan to address the patient’s specific care needs, manage their condition more closely (whether it’s a chronic ailment or post-surgical care) and avoid crises that can send them back to the hospital.

Tree House: A Place for FamiliesA temporary home, steps away from a hospitalized child

Founded in 2009, Tree House: A Place for Families enables parents to stay overnight near their seriously ill or injured children at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Tacoma General’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This comfortable family complex includes 42 private sleep rooms, private bathrooms; free laundry services; a living room; a well-stocked communal kitchen; playroom; and a fenced outdoor play area. Thanks to generous donor support, Tree House is able to offer all the comforts of home to families at a trying and difficult time.

The Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT)Reaching out to people with serious and persistent mental illness

Sometimes, for a variety of complex reasons, traditional, clinic-based services prove ineffective for people who suffer from serious, persistent mental illness. For these individuals, the Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) offers an innovative alternative. This comprehensive, voluntary program provides clients with highly individualized services in their home and community — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — in partnership with family members and others. Not only does treatment focus on an individual’s immediate goals, it’s designed to minimize or prevent recurrent acute episodes of mental illness, meet the client’s basic needs and help them secure and maintain housing, employment and an independent life.

“The PACT team has done wonders…we have our son back and a new sense of hope.”

92 clients received mental health services in their home or community in 2013.

5,019 children received free vaccinations

12,512 volunteer hours were donated

$1,242,629 in diabetes services were provided

54 children attended Camp Erin

106 community organizations were sponsored

$320,412 was invested in the fight against childhood obesity

25,388 low-income people received nutritional support through the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program

“I appreciated the many people who dedicated their time and efforts to help me in my goal of becoming physically independent.”

3,877 people received care in their homes and avoided a return trip to the hospital in 2013.

1,100 Tree House guests stayed a total of 6,542 nights.

“We didn’t know we were going to be at the hospital for two weeks,” recalled Marnie Schumaker, whose grand-child, Ripley, was treated at Mary Bridge. “We didn’t have anything—and Tree House had it all there for us.”
