called me into the ministry Ive asted 3,000 days andover 9,000 meals. People say, You are gited to beable to ast. Its easy or you.

The act is, asting is not easy or me. I dont lookat it as a git, but rather an act o obedience. To betruthul, my esh doesnt like to ast at all. The reasonI ast or long periods o time and encourage othersto do so is the enormous blessing that only comes

when one humbles themselves through prayer andasting. The rewards are hugh and bring bonusesand dividends in ones lie that would have neverhappened i they had not asted.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:16-18, ...when ye ast...thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward theeopenly. The reward or asting so ar exceedsin physical discomort, Ive never looked at asting

here is discomort, headaches and weakness.Continually people reply when you tell them you areasting with the comment, Im sorry. Oten others willsay, Dont hurt yoursel. I know they are being kind,but they are just ignorant o the physical and spiritualblessing o not eating.

Over the years Ive encountered scores o ministers,theologians and lay people who have challenged meon the validity o asting. They say this is not a New

Testament principal, asting is a privative dark agepractice by monks in the Catholic Church and not or

today. Oten one is accused o being legalisticsimply because they ast. At times Ive been

excluded and even persecuted or mystand on asting.

Yet over the last thirty yearsI have asted 50 to 150

days each year.

Fasting brings you to the threshold o a new aith inGod and His Word. Reading the Word o God andasting are the great aith producers. Jesus taughtthat stubborn cases o unanswered prayer can only beovercome by prayer and asting. And nothing shall beimpossible unto you...by prayer and asting. Matthew17:10-21.

Throughout the scriptures deeply spiritual men whoobtained things in answer to prayer, always came toGod on an empty stomach, either completely astingor else living abstemiously. These men made history.These men include Moses who received the TenCommandments on a ast, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah,David, Jesus, all the apostles, Paul and every churchlisted in the New Testament.

You may be surprised to know the word ast occurstwenty times in Scripture. Fasting is used seventeentimes. Fasted is mentioned thirteen times, astingsour times and asted once. This makes a total o fty-

fve reerences to the subject in the Bible.

Our God is a rewarder o those who ast.

In January 1989, I asked our congregation to joinme in asting the frst three days o each month. ByMarch o that year, people began to openly criticizeme or my position on asting. One o my deaconsapproached me and said, You cant tell us to ast!

We would ast on the frst Monday, Tuesday, andWednesday o each month. I decided to end each

them to come in.

There is no room! was the response. I asked orextra chairs and made my way in and began sharing what the Lord put on my heart. In the congregation was a man named Bob. Bobs wie brought him

to the Miracle Service because he had cancer andhadnt eaten in over a week. Ater I prayed or Bobhe went back to his seat and sat down. A ew minutes later Bob leaned over to his wie and said, Ivegot to go home.

Why? she asked.

Im so hungry.

Bob ate and slept. Then he slept and ate. He didthis or one week, and then he went to work. TheLord totally healed Bob.

A short, bright eyed, Baptist lady was also at theMiracle Service. She came because she had ahuge tumor the size o a graperuit on her leg. Weprayed or her. When she returned home her neighbor asked her where she had gone. To the MiracleService, she said. She pulled up her pant leg toshow the neighbor the tumor was gone! That yearthe Lord healed 38 people.

I didnt know what to expect. The church waspacked; over 2300 people were in attendance.

1993 Dr. Cho asked me to sit on his Board oDirectors. This changed the way I looked at everything in ministry. This made me think dierent. The

key to growth is Vision. As a man thinketh so heis.

1994 God spoke to me Walk the City. That yearwe added a prayer walk o 91 miles around our cityto our time o asting. So we walked. I gave peopleoil and we walked neighborhoods. One walk tookus to a neighborhood across rom an area seepedin immorality. As the people anointed the area andprayed, the transormer across the street exploded.God sent a great revival.

1995 - My frst 40 day ast. A prophet came to meand told me that the Lord had said, I you will double your prayer time, God will double your church.

So I began praying twice a day. It occurred to methat i the Lord will do that or me i I double mypraying, what about double my ast too. So my frst

40 day was not planned, but I asted 42 days thatyear. I had never asted that long beore. Amazing

things happened 3 or 4 weeks ater the ast. TheLord began exposing sin in the camp. God beganchanging the leadership. People started leavingthe church. But God was moving or us and many

new people started attending. God sent the poor,Arican-American, Hispanic, multi-cultures and nationalities. God spoke to me that He was changingthe direction o our church and called me to reachthe poor o our community.

It was then that I received the revelation o the 5-oldgospel blessing and is the 3-old blessings o Christ.

I started preaching this and my leadership wentrom all white to multi-cultural. Now my asting pattern changed to 21 days, and 40 days alternatingeach year.

2001 Carried the Cross around Louisville. It wassuch a humbling experience. As we walked peoplewould honk at us in agreement. Our group o walkers grew. Ten joined us, then 20, 40 and we grew to

over 1000 people helping us carry the cross the 91miles around our city. Something changed again.

2002 I was preparing to run a mini marathon. Atthe start o the marathon I positioned mysel close

in water baptism. At the end o the service, the water in the pool barely covered my socks. 600 peoplewere baptized in that service!

God spoke to me to change the name o our church.Evangel Christian Lie Center became Evangel

World Prayer Center.

It was during this ast that the church was in the process o purchasing the property on Billtown Road.It was my habit to write Deuteronomy 11 on mychecks as I gave in the oerings. At that time I wastrying to sell my house. I put $100.00 in the oering and claimed my promise. Ater that service thevisiting preacher told me that he needed $25,000.I told him I would help him raise the money and hecould take up an oering the next night at church.I told the Lord when I sell my house; I would giveto help raise that oering. The truth o the matterwas that in six months we had not gotten even oneinquiry about the house. The next night (Thursday)during the service I put in $1000.00 in the oering.By Sunday I had 3 oers on my house. That week Igave $100,000.

2002 was also the year I built two radio stations inLiberia. It was a very bad time or the nation o Li

beria. They were in a civil war. I went to Liberia andmet with the rebel leader. He had accepted Christas his Savior. He asked me to speak to the President o Liberia on his behal and deliver a messageo peace. I did so and the United Nations got in

volved in the peace settlement and used our stations to broadcast peace to Liberia and throughoutmany nations in Arica.

2007 In February ater the ast, the Minister oTourism in Israel contacted me to start a radio station in the Holy Land. While I was there, I met a lady.She approached me and asked i I was Bob Rodgers. I said yes and she gave me this prophecy. God

said that He would use me in the Holy Land andHe would give me a great ministry there. That yearI smuggled suitcase radios in Israel and we beganbroadcasting the Gospel.

Cut vegetables in small to medium pieces and cover withwater. Boil ast or ten minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. This can be eatenanytime you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want at any time o the day.

summer day camp director, youth pastor, and associate pastor. CurrentlyKevin serves as Executive Pastor.

21 Meals In 21 DaysThat was the admonition o Pastor Bob toour congregation; the frst January he was

the pastor o Evangel Christian Lie Center.(We later changed our name to EvangelWorld Prayer Center.) In years past, we haddesignated the week between Christmasand New Years as our time to ast and seekthe Lord or the New Year. It was encouragedwithin the church, but it was not promotedas a unction o the church.

It was a new day, under Pastor Bobs leadership, and anew approach to asting was emerging. It was the way to

start the New Year. It elt like a frst ruits kind o season

to kick o a new year and a new beginning under Pastor

Bob.

In those days we had a prayer retreat called Prayer

Mountain. So, our sta went there to spend time in

prayer to get Gods direction or 1989. It was during frst

week Pastor Bob thought he should go ahead and astall twenty-one meals in seven days. Most o us did not

realize exactly what was happening, but we sensed that

our time there at Prayer Mountain was something special.

Little did we know it was the birthing o something that

would take on signifcance or churches here in America

and around the world. It, defnitely, would become the

thing or which Pastor Bob Rodgers and Evangel World

Prayer Center would be known around the world.

What happened was this. Ater the frst seven days,Pastor Bob elt lead o the Lord to continue another seven days o a complete ast. As you may have guessed,when that week was over he elt lead to ast the third

week and thus twenty-one days o asting and prayerhad begun. It was the next year that a public ast was

called or our congregation.

I had never asted or any length o time. Fasting wasnot prevalent in the church I grew up in. It was taughtvery little and exercised even less. I do not say that tobe critical. It was just dierent in those days. The astingthat was done was mostly a meal at a time, or a day,maybe three, etc. My ather and a ew others I knew hadasted or long periods o time, but that was out o their

personal pursuit o God. When I was in college I asteda little, very little. So, now we were to ast or twenty-one days. How was I going to do that? I did not have apersonal rame o reerence to base it on. I was not surei I could do it.

You have asted or one day, right? That was a questionthat came up rom within me. The answer was yesand that became the basis or how I would get through

twenty-one days o asting. I decided to ast one dayat a time. I made it through the frst day and thought,Praise the Lord! So, I asted the second day. I was soglad when I got to the end o that day and it was time tosleep. The easiest way to ast is to sleep. Obviously, youcant sleep all the time, but when you hit a tough spot itcan help you get through.

Finally, the twenty-one days had passed and I was amazedthat I had asted the whole time. There was such an incredible level o expectancy in my heart that God woulddo miracles. I was not alone. Many others had asted thewhole time. When we had our Miracle service to concludethe ast, it was electriying in the church. Every year it con

tinues to be one o the most exciting services we have.As a minister o the gospel, I have been changed throughasting. Fasting is one o the biblical disciplines. Now, wedo not like hearing the word discipline, because it meanswe have to bring our esh into submission. Like any discipline, the process has to be worked out, but the end resultbrings joy.

Fasting brings about a confdence that nothing is impos

sible with God. I began to pray with greater boldness andauthority. I had a new sensitivity to the spiritual realm. Theassurance o Gods promises seemed to be amplifed in

I know the Bible tells us, faith comes by hearing andhearing by the Word of God,Romans 10:17. However, Ihave come to believe that asting and prayer ertilizes theWord o God you have taken into your heart. It causes anincreased growth o aith where you begin to believe Godor impossible things.

Dewayne and his amily came tochurch one midweek service. Ihad never met him beore. He hadthree small children. They hadbeen sleeping in their car or two

nights. They had been evicted andDewayne had lost his job. I helpedhim get a room and prayed withthem.

We were beginning the 21 Day Fastand I encouraged Dewayne to joinin. I talked with him about his jobskills. He had worked a lot o jobs,but as a teenager his grandatherhad taught him to detail cars.
