Recycling on UC Berkeley Tennis Courts There are three tennis facilities that are frequently being used by the Cal men’s and women’s team, the club team, students, faculty members and other tennis programs. The facilities make up 21 courts. This project addresses recycling as there are numerous balls, ball cans and plastic bottles that are discarded each year: Ball cans are made from a minimum of 25% post consumer recycled PET and consist of the can, top and wrapper, which are plastic and a rim and pull tops that are made of aluminum. Tennis balls are mostly made from natural rubber and can be recycled for use as other surfaces such as athletic surfaces, play grounds and equestrian turf. The TGIF grant provided 20 recycling bins to be placed on and outside the courts of the tennis facilities to reduce the environmental impact of the sport and to promote sustainability.

Recycling on UC Berkeley Tennis Courts

There are three tennis facilities that are frequently being used by the Cal men’s

and women’s team, the club team, students, faculty members and other tennis programs. The facilities make up 21 courts. This project addresses recycling as there are numerous balls, ball cans and plastic bottles that are discarded each year:

Ball cans are made from a minimum of 25% post consumer recycled PET and consist of the can, top and wrapper, which are plastic and a rim and pull tops that are made of aluminum.
