The Story The spark behind The Grapeseed Company began when the company’s founder, Kristin Fraser Cotte, returned to a landlubber's life after a two-year adventure sailing a 30-foot sloop from Boston to the Caribbean with her partner Peter. Living off solar power, fishing for food and carrying their trash and fresh water supply, they gained a deeper respect for treading lightly on our planet. In her travels, Kristin discovered the benefits of natural oils and plants being used by local islanders. During the ocean passages, she studied herbs, essential oils and the craft of making natural skin care products. In 2004, Kristin launched The Grapeseed Company, a line of bath & body treats created from the byproduct of wine in their new wine-centric hometown, Santa Barbara, California. Kristin & Peter started selling the scrubs, oils and lip balms online and at the local Sunday Beach Market...Today, The Grapeseed Company creates over 80 skin, hair, bath & body products utilizing fresh, local ingredients and operates 2 retail stores in California as well as distributing around the world.

Why Grapeseeds? The Grapeseed Company's skin care products feature the finest quality expeller-pressed grape seed oil, crushed grape seeds and red wine extract- all byproducts of the wine making process. The ecologically sound byproducts are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and resveratrol. Grape seeds are known to help fight free radical damage, the signs of aging, and heal skin exposed to natural elements. Grape seeds are rich in polyphenols, which have been linked to cancer prevention and anti-aging treatments in medical research. Applied topically, grape seed oil is known for its light, nutrient rich composition; an ideal choice for all skin types. The process of applying the byproduct of wine to the skin is known as Vinotherapy in the spa & beauty world.

Organic Ingredients The Grapeseed Company’s products contain 70% to 90% certified organic ingredients. Certified Organic Ingredients have been evaluated by an organic certification agency that examines growing conditions and final product. The Certified Organic ingredients used in our formulations are grown without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. So what’s the other 10-30% of the formula? The simple answer is natural ingredients that are either not available organically, or locally sourced ingredients that are grown organically, but not "certified organic." Some of our locally grown ingredients include: honey, grape seeds, wine extract, and lavender! All other ingredients are either naturally derived or used as less than 1% in the formulation and are needed to preserve the product. We believe in full disclosure on ingredients, and list everything on our product labels and website so you can make an informed choice before purchasing. All oils are naturally expeller-pressed instead of solvent extracted. All colors come from the natural ingredients; there are no artificial additives or "filler" ingredients.

Eco Friendly Not only is the cobalt blue packaging attractive, it is 100% recyclable PET plastic or glass. Our gift boxes are made from recycled materials and can be re-used or recycled. Our gift bags and soap bags can be re-used as gift packaging and are great for travel. The soy candle packaging can be recycled or washed and re-used when the candle has burned down. Glass soy candle packaging may also be returned clean to The Grapeseed Company to be refilled. Every product made by The Grapeseed Company is free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

Delicious Scents

We only use Natural Fragrances! Natural fragrances come from essential oils, fruit and plant essences. Many cosmetic products use fragrance oils or perfumes, which can irritate sensitive skin and noses. Fragrance oils are synthetic chemicals formulated to make an odor. The Grapeseed Co. uses only natural essential oils and fragrances. We are known for our signature scents: blends of botanically derived fruit and plant essential oils and essences with aromatherapy benefits.

Fresh!

We manufacture botanical beauty from wine daily at our production kitchen in Carpinteria, California. The Grapeseed Company products are freshest when used within 12-18 months from opening the bottle. The packaging was selected specifically to work with the essential oils and preservative system by blocking light and keeping the ingredients fresh. Products will stay fresh longer if water is kept out of the container. All of our products are paraben, sulfate and phthalate free. Many of our products are also nut free, gluten free and vegan as noted on the label.

No Animal Testing The Grapeseed Company is member of PETAs Caring Consumer Program. We have a team of willing and able human participants that eagerly test our products. The exception is our Dirty Dog Organics line, which for obvious reasons is tested on dogs.
