Sclerotherapy In ject ions

Sclerotherapy is a medical treatment for small thread veins, also known as

talangiectasia. I t involves injecting the t iny veins with an irr i tant solution (general ly

a salt solution) using a very f ine needle. It is suitable for most areas of the body, but

most commonly the legs and face.

Laser Hair Removal

Tradit ional methods of hair removal can be t ime-consuming and have undesirable

outcomes. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a modern alternative for hair removal with

longer last ing results to that of shaving, waxing and chemical depilator ies.

The system works by producing l ight energy which is taken up by melanin, the

pigment in the hair. When the melanin absorbs the l ight, the l ight energy is converted

into heat energy which is then transferred to the hair fol l icle, leading to destruction

of the hair shaft and neighbouring cel ls responsible for regrowth of the hair.

Acne

Acne is a very common condit ion affecting nearly every teenager at some stage. The

distr ibution of acne occurs mainly on the forehead, cheeks, chin, upper chest and

upper back. It is considered a medical condit ion when it is more than just occasional

pimples or when appearing in later l i fe.

Assessment by a dermatologist ensures the appropriate treatment is prescribed for

each patient. The treatments include special ised skin washes, gels and creams,

systemic treatments (tablets) including antibiot ics, hormonal treatment and

Roaccutane (which can only be prescribed and monitored by a dermatologist) . We

also offer Medical Microdermabrasion, peels and the Obagi Clenziderm system at The

Westbourne Centre to minimise and control acne f lare ups.

Dermatology

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common rash found on the central part of the face, usually of a middle

aged person. A tendency to f lush easi ly is fol lowed by persistent redness on the

cheeks, chin, forehead and nose and by crops of small inf lamed red bumps and pus

spots. Topical treatment and systematic (antibiot ic) treatment is recommended such

as the Obagi System Rosaclear to control rosacea.

Mole Screening and Removal of Moles

Your mole screening consultat ion wil l be with our experienced cosmetic nurse.

Detection of early change into either an atypical mole or melanoma is extremely

important. With the aid of a dermatoscope (an i l luminated hand-held lens with

magnif ication) moles are checked. If required, you wil l be referred to one of our

consultant plast ic surgeons who would then remove any moles that are suspicious

looking. They can also remove moles for cosmetic reasons.

Semi-Permanent MakeupSemi-Permanent Makeup (SPMU) has gained in popularity exponential ly in the last

f i f teen years. I t involves implanting the r ight colour in the r ight place so you look

better, natural ly. I t is not an extreme art, but one of subtle harmony. I t is the

implantation of a pigment suspended in a medium into the dermis, or under the skin,

instead of on top as with tradit ional makeup. SPMU is an alternative to cosmetic

pencils applied to the eyebrows, eyel ids, l ips and other parts of the face.

saved not applying makeup. Those who previously applied pencil can go swimming,

The intradermal pigmentation procedure for l ip colour is beautiful. I t can appear to

change the size and shape of the l ips as well as the colour. This procedure helps

prevent l ipst ick from bleeding into the surrounding skin. A soft pink, similar to the

l ip colour of a new born baby is popular for those wanting a natural look. A more
