PRODUCT: UNITASK OUTPUT DIRECTOR QUOTE: “PURCHASING OUTPUT DIRECTOR WAS AN EASY THING TO SELL TO THE CFO. WE JUST PRESENTED THE FACTS AND IT WAS A GOOD FINANCIAL DECISION TO MAKE.” SUSAN WILSON INFORMATION SERVICES DIRECTOR, TNEMEC UNITASK|SUCCESS STORY TNEMEC LEADING INDUSTRIAL COATINGS MANUFACTURER MEETS ORACLE E BUSINESS SUITE IMPLEMENTATION DEADLINE BY SIMPLIFYING PRINTER SETUP THE SITUATION Tnemec has a reputation for superior performance of its Specialty Paint and Coatings products. Its corporate IT department expects similar performance from its systems. In an effort to maintain its stringent IT standards, Tnemec elected to replace its legacy corporate system and upgrade to the Oracle E Business Suite. “We simply decided that it was time for a technology refresh. We chose Oracle running on Linux servers in a multitiered environment,” said Susan Wilson, Information Services Director for Tnemec. “In implementing Oracle EBusiness Suite, we started with Financials have brought on other modules as part of a multiyear, phased approach.” THE CHALLENGE One of Tnemec’s key technical objectives was to mitigate impact on their user community. This included enabling the same printers that were available on the legacy system so as to minimize disruption to endusers and not interfere with daytoday productivity. As their initial implementation deadline approached, Tnemec’s IT department found the task of linking their existing enterprise printers to their Oracle instance significantly more difficult than anticipated. “It took us nearly four hours to setup our first printer. We learned that each printer needed to be defined individually and at an IP level.” Added Wilson, “I even spoke with a colleague familiar with Oracle and he confirmed that setting up printers in the EBusiness Suite could be difficult and timeconsuming.” Given the number of printers in its environment, and the associated service goals mandated as an organization, Tnemec needed a better way. THE SOLUTION Tnemec sought out a thirdparty solution to help simplify their printer project. To validate the solution, Wilson was able to test Output Director on the Unitask instance of the Oracle EBusiness Suite. “Unitask provided me logon credentials to their internal instance and I printed a report from the Unitask instance to my desktop printer at home. Needless to say, I went to work the next morning excited to show everyone the solution to our printing problems,” she said.

UNITASK|SUCCESS  STORY  TNEMEC  LEADING   INDUSTRIAL   COATINGS   MANUFACTURER   MEETS   ORACLE   E-‐BUSINESS  SUITE  IMPLEMENTATION  DEADLINE  BY  SIMPLIFYING  PRINTER  SETUP

THE  SITUATION  Tnemec  has  a  reputation  for  superior  performance  of  its  Specialty  Paint  and  Coatings  products.  Its  corporate  IT  department  expects  similar  performance  from  its  systems.  In  an  effort  to  maintain  its  stringent  IT  standards,  Tnemec  elected  to  replace   its   legacy  corporate  system  and  upgrade  to  the  Oracle  E-‐Business  Suite.

“We   simply   decided   that   it   was   time   for   a   technology   refresh.   We   chose  Oracle  running  on  Linux  servers   in  a  multi-‐tiered  environment,”  said  Susan  Wilson,   Information  Services  Director   for  Tnemec.   “In   implementing  Oracle  E-‐Business  Suite,  we  started  with  Financials  have  brought  on  other  modules  as  part  of  a  multi-‐year,  phased  approach.”

THE  CHALLENGE  One   of   Tnemec’s   key   technical   objectives   was   to   mitigate   impact   on   their  user   community.   This   included   enabling   the   same   printers   that   were  available  on  the  legacy  system  so  as  to  minimize  disruption  to  end-‐users  and  not  interfere  with  day-‐to-‐day  productivity.

We  learned  that  each  printer  needed  to  be  defined  individually  and  at  an  IP  level.”

Added  Wilson,   “I   even   spoke  with   a   colleague   familiar  with   Oracle   and   he  confirmed  that  setting  up  printers   in  the  E-‐Business  Suite  could  be  difficult  and  time-‐consuming.”

Given  the  number  of  printers  in  its  environment,  and  the  associated  service  goals  mandated  as  an  organization,  Tnemec  needed  a  better  way.

THE  TRANSITION  The  Tnemec  team  knew  it  had  to  act   fast   to  get  Output  Director   installed   in  order  to  meet  the  go   live  date.  The  first  step  was  to  evaluate  the  product   in  the   Tnemec   test   environment.     Within   one   hour,   Tnemec   was   printing  successfully.   Output   Director   even   printed   Tnemec’s   checks,   which   are  produced  with  Oracle  XML  Publisher,  flawlessly.

“Given  that  some  of  our  printers  didn’t  even  have  updated  drivers  available,  it  was  an  easy  thing  to  sell  to  the  CFO.  We  just  presented  the  facts  and  it  was  a  good  financial  decision  to  make,”  said  Wilson.

Final   user   testing   proved   that   the   product   would   work   as   successfully   in  production  as  it  had  during  the  evaluation.

THE  RESULTS  By   deploying   Output   Director   in   their   production   instance   of   the   Oracle   E-‐Business  Suite,  Tnemec  was  able  to  achieve  its  implementation  objectives.

“We’re   very   happy  with   the   software,”   said   Tnemec’s  DBA.   “It’s   a   real   time  saver.   It’s   an   important  piece  of   software   that   just  works  without  worrying  about  it.”

ABOUT  TNEMEC  Tnemec   (pronounced   tah-‐KNEE-‐mick):   an   unusual   name   for   an   unusual   coatings  company.   In   1921,   Albert   C.   Bean,   Sr.   made   an   unusual   discovery   that   ultimately  marked  Tnemec's  beginning.  Bean  noticed  a  reinforcing  bar   in  the  midst  of  concrete  rubble  that  hadn't  rusted  in  decades  and  decided  to  further   investigate.  Through  his  investigation,   not   only   did   he   discover   that   the   alkaline   condition   of   the   cement  inhibited  rust,  he  used  this  information  to  patent  a  revolutionary  coatings  formula.  As  a  tribute  to  this  discovery,  he  reversed  the  letters  of  cement  and  changed  the  name  of  his   company   from   Armor   Oil   and   Chemical   to   what   it   is   known   as   today.   Having  gained   a   worldwide   reputation   among   specifiers   and   contractors   for   quality   and  consistency,   Tnemec   also   has   the   most   knowledgeable   sales   force   in   the   coatings  industry.  Representatives  provide  support  and  industry  expertise  from  start  to  finish.  For  more  information  please  visit  www.tnemec.com.
