TOWN HALL MEETING INFUSING THE PASSION BACK INTO IFBW

What do we stand for? ¢  Professional development – a safe place to learn

¢  Working on women’s issues

¢  Pay equity

¢  Legislative issues

¢  Can’t take a stand on any political issues like abortion or planned parenthood

¢  Networking?

¢  Pat said is pro-choice an issue for us – part of our

¢  Maybe we can provide a forum for resolving differences when it comes to political issues

¢  Being supportive not divisive – any details??? – an organization like ours has an opportunity to provide a safe environment where we can express our opinions and issues without being judged – our common experiences as working women should allow us to support and encourage each other.

TOWN HALL MEETING INFUSING THE PASSION BACK INTO IFBW

What do we stand for? ¢  Part of our charter says we support availability of reproductive choices,

coverage of preventive maintenance, pre-natal care, long term care and medicaid & medicare and research on medical issues that affect women.

¢  Are we for ERA? Our platform & preamble says we support ERA for all.

¢  ERA is our preamble – there are 6 items   Equal employment opportunities   Actively work to pursue health issues for women   Work for victims rights   Work to have affordable, quality care for all ages   Support the election of qualified women to public office   Support to insure that veterans have full benefits and job opportunities

Are we a political organization or not – confusion about this

The 6 items are very generic and thus ?????

TOWN HALL MEETING INFUSING THE PASSION BACK INTO IFBW

How to infuse the passion back into our organization and region.

¢  We need to get specific, each person needs to figure out what each of us feel passionate about and then put groups together to actually start working on the area – the big key is we need to get specific.

¢  How do we get specific and put that into motion?   Is there a strategy that we could develop to take our message to the community colleges

– what level do we come into them and how do we reach out to non-members?   How do we actually implement the college programs that we have developed. Maybe we

need a marketing plan, etc so that it will be successful?   At the State Convention, members can bring up changes to the legislative platform. We

have a broad set of guidelines to accept lots of different opinions.   The organization has historically worked on legislative issues that affect women. It

may not be who we are now. That is why we have such a wide platform and that is why as local, region or state we can not support one view over another. However, we can as individuals.

TOWN HALL MEETING INFUSING THE PASSION BACK INTO IFBW

How to infuse the passion back into our organization and region.

¢ We need to start talking about this. It is a long term discussion

¢ We can add comments to the Region 1 Private Group. ¢ We can send out an email to our members to let them

discuss. ¢ We need to realistically think about this and move it

forward into next year’s “todo” list of issues to solve.
