Title: The Global Financial Crisis: Lessons Learned

Abstract: The Global Financial Crisis, which began in the United States in 2007-08

and quickly spread to other countries across the globe, led to the loss of trillions of

dollars in wealth worldwide and continues to adversely impact millions of people

globally. With the benefit of hindsight, we now understand many of the main causes

of the Crisis as well as some of the actions that made the Crisis worse. In this paper,

the author will highlight three main lessons learned from the Crisis and discuss

strategies that governments and businesses can use to dampen and/or prevent

similar financial crises in the future.

Title: Effectiveness of In-Game Advertisements: A Review

Abstract: Commercial organisations have shown an increasing interest in

advertising their products in computer games. The aim of this review is to examine

the effectiveness of in-game advertisements and suggest how this medium can be

used more effectively by commercial organisations. The majority of studies have

shown that the rate of recall and recognition of in-game advertisements have been

low. Prominence of the in-game advertisement within the game has been

consistently found to be correlated to the rate of recall and recognition. This can be

due to the location of the in-game advertisements; whether theadvertised brand

plays an important role in the game; familiarity of the brand to the gamer;

congruence of the brand to the game; and finally, the size and colour of the

advertisement. In contrast, the effects of game characteristics and gamer experience

on the recall and recognition rate of in-game advertisement are less consistent

across studies. The review suggests that commercial organisations should consider

ways to increase the prominence of their in-game advertisements so as to increase

the effectiveness of their advertising strategy.

Keywords: In-game advertisements, computer games, advertisement recall,

advertising medium, advertising strategy.

Abstract -This study dealt with the correlation between the levels of Sternberg’s components of

love (intimacy, passion and commitment) and the level of marital satisfaction of selected

married couples in Batangas. Moreover, the levels of components of love and levels of marital

satisfaction based on the varying profile of the respondents are compared. A survey method

using questionnaires (Triangular Theory of Love Scale (TTLS) and Couples Satisfaction Index

(CSI-32)) translated in Filipino language were used to collect the data. There were 400

married couples who participated in the study. The result of the correlational analysis revealed

a very strong positive and significant relationship between the level of intimacy and marital

satisfaction of both male and female respondents, while strong positive and significant

relationships on levels of passion and commitment and level of marital satisfaction of the male

and female respondents. Furthermore, several significant differences are enumerated: a) on

the level of intimacy of the male respondents when they were grouped according to their age of

Abstract--Teacher approachability is an important, albiet, under researched constituent of the

teacher-student relationship. It is considered a positive attribute in Pakistan and is important in

that culture as the universities lack counseling support for the students and turn to their

traditional means of support, their teachers. The purpose of this research was to study teacher

approachability and unapproachability as perceived by final year undergraduate students

completing a computing science degree at a Pakistani University. Data was gathered by

semi-structured interviews. The results of this research will inform practices and policies

relating to approachability for pre-service and in-service teacher training at universities within

Pakistan. More general conclusions beyond Pakistani culture will also be made where

warranted.

Abstract: This paper examines the characteristics of tourism entrepreneurs in Malaysia. In

recent times, Tourism Small and Medium Enterprises (TSMEs) have played crucial role in

sustaining economic growth and development in Malaysia. The Malaysian government has

implemented programmes and policies aimed at ensuring the success of the tourism industry.

The paper explores the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of tourism

entrepreneurs in Malaysia to determine which of the characteristics promote success of a

tourism business based on a survey of 346 TSMEs. The study finds that, overall, a tourism

entrepreneur in Malaysia is often a male, aged 30 years and above, with a tertiary education

and mostly a diploma, practices an informal business plan, engages in business alliances, and

uses the Internet to convey information to customers. The paper also finds that most

entrepreneurs do not avail the assistance schemes and support provided by the Malaysian

government. The paper concludes with the policy implications drawn from the study.
