Rodney JoslinPresident, P-C Section S71, SPE

The 2013/2014 SPE-Piedmont Coastal Section year is beginning and I would like to welcome everyone back. My name is Rodney Joslin. I have the privilege of returning for a second year as President of the section and I am looking forward to working with the great board of directors we have this year. During our summer planning meeting we’ve identified a number of interesting tour opportunities and a tentative calendar is included in the newsletter. Updates will be made throughout the year as we finalize details and confirm tours.

A major change this year is that the Annual Martin A. “Marty” Ryba Memorial SPE Golf Outing is being held on September 17, 2013 which is one month earlier than in past years. Jackie Ryba and Walt Carey have done another fantastic job organizing this great event. I ask that you help support their efforts with attendance and hole sponsorships. Contact information and details are included in the newsletter. Another change is that Tim Earley has taken over the duties of Membership Chair. Tim has done an outstanding job so far. I have faith that he will continue to drive the increasing growth that George Millington was able to accomplish. Please contact Tim if you have any membership ques-tions.

Last year was very successful for the Piedmont-Coastal section as we earned the Pinnacle Award (Gold) from the national SPE office. We also enjoyed growth in membership and increased participation at monthly meetings. I want to thank all of our members for help-ing us to accomplish that. One of my goals for the year is to see that continue. I ask that you please help us by identifying potential new members and interesting locations for monthly meetings.

I have a major goal for the next year to see more participation and interaction with students and young professionals. I joined the NEXT Generation Advisory Board at SPE ANTEC this last year. I have been participating in planning for various national events with that group. We have initial plans for the next ANTEC which I believe will get a lot of attention from students and young professionals. Locally I am planning to visit each of the schools we support and meet with the student members along with one or two other veteran members who are willing to help relay the benefits of belonging to SPE.

Thank you all for supporting our chapter.
