School & Community Augusta Preparatory Day School was founded in 1960, serving students in grades preschool through 12. The academic year includes 176 days divided into two semesters. Classes meet daily in seven 47-minute academic periods with exams at the end of each semester. Admission is by formal application, interview, recommendation, and standardized testing. Qualified students are admitted without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or national or ethnic origin. Augusta Preparatory Day School is located in Martinez, Georgia, a suburb of Augusta, Georgia. The school serves students from the Central Savannah River Area which includes: Columbia, Richmond, Burke, and McDuffie counties in Georgia, as well as Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina. Students of color represent twenty-four percent (24%) of total enrollment.

Accreditation and Memberships Augusta Preparatory Day School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school maintains membership in the following: National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), National Middle School Association (NMSA), Educational Records Bureau (ERB), National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC), The College Board, National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), Cum Laude Society, and National Honor Society (NHS). Augusta Preparatory Day School is a Malone Family Foundation School – the only school in the state of Georgia to hold this distinction and one of only 50 schools nationwide.

Course Offerings for Graduating Class of 2015: Twenty-two (22) Carnegie units in grades 9-12 are required for graduation. Middle School classes may count as prerequisites. One-half unit is awarded for semester courses, one unit for full-year courses. Departmental requirements are outlined below:

Independent Study and Service Practicum
Independent Studies in various academic areas can be arranged by student-teacher agreement and contingent upon an approved syllabus. Student may request a service practicum to work as a teacher or office assistant.
Senior Speech and Senior Project
In addition to course work, seniors deliver an original speech to the Upper School student body and must plan and execute a five-day (or 20-hour) senior project, culminating in a presentation to their class, administrators, and faculty.
Rank in Class
Augusta Preparatory Day School does not rank students. Grade Point Average
Grade Point Average (GPA)
Only grades earned while attending Augusta Preparatory Day School are included when calculating a student’s official
GPA. Our cumulative weighted GPA is calculated after adding five (5) points for each Advanced Placement course,
four (4) points for each honors course, and three (3) points for each college preparatory course to the end-of-year
numerical grade.
Standardized Testing
All 9th graders take ASPIRE 9 (formerly PLAN), 10th and 11th graders take the PSAT, and 11th and 12th graders
take the SAT Reasoning Test and/or ACT with optional writing section. Students are encouraged to take SAT Subject
Tests after completion of the respective courses.
