Dear Families,

The New Heights Board and Staff are thrilled to present the 2014-15 school year programs. For the first time, school-year activities will be provided at both the New Heights Exeter and New Heights Portsmouth locations. This means New Heights overnight adventure trips to national parks, young inventors series, FIRST LEGO robotics, stilting, mean cuisine, GirlTalk and team building will be available to Portsmouth, Exeter, and Southern Maine youth in 5th grade through high school.

New Heights is proud of the experiential learning programs we have developed over the last 27 years and we work hard to make them accessible to all participants and families. Thanks to generous sponsors and funders, financial need is never a barrier to participation. Participants may apply for financial assistance through our scholarship program. Payment Plans can be arranged through the New Heights office by calling 603-422-8235.

New Heights exists to serve the community. Our programs provide opportunities for youth to make choices, fail in a safe environment and ultimately experience success—under their own power, on their own terms—so they learn to manage themselves and to sense, empathize and react to others. If you have a program idea, feedback, or a question we want to hear from you.

New Heights has been providing experiential learning programs for youth in the greater Seacoast region since 1987. Over the years, we have helped literally thousands of 5th through 12th grade youth develop friendships, discover talents and lifelong passions. We are proud to have shaped generations of community members and leaders.

As of January 1, 2014, New Heights and New Outlook Teen Center in Exeter merged to create a single, stronger organization in order to provide the highest quality programs for as many 5th through 12th grade youth as possible. Programs will continue to be provided at the Portsmouth Community Campus as well as in Exeter.

WELCOME TONEW HEIGHTS

New Heights staff are expert trip leaders and can work with school staff to design expeditions that incorporate service learning or academic components worthy of academic credit. For example, students have hiked and worked with Zion National Park Rangers on much-needed service projects and researched adaptations of fauna while kayaking the Channel Islands off the coast of California.

The New Heights In the Know Speaker Series is designed for parents, grandparents, coaches or others who work with youth in pre-adolescence and adolescence. In the Know discussions are facilitated conversations with a panel

of experts on topics chosen by parents so that together we can be informed and do our best to help our kids gain the confidence and independence they need.

The topics for this year were generated by parents and those who attended discussion groups in 2014. Given the rapidly changing world of technology, we will continue the conversation about Social Media and technology including a primer on what kids are using and best practice for parents; we will continue to talk about helping our middle school

students navigate cultural pressures and form healthy relationships with peers, and the developing adolescent brain.

In the Know will be held at the Community Campus in Portsmouth and at the Exeter Town Hall in Exeter.
