The Doctrine of the Unity of Scripture

THEOLOGY

Dr. Walter Kaiser 30th June - 4th July

The Bible is incredibly diverse, covering a wide variety of eras, authors, cultures and literary styles. Nevertheless, from Genesis to Revelation, is it possible to read the Bible as one continuous, unified narrative, with a consistent plan and purpose?

The 2014 Cambridge Summer School of Theology will examine:

• Principles for reading and understanding the Old Testament• Old Testament Prophecy and Jesus the Messiah• Our responsibility towards Old Testament Law• How the Old Covenants relate to the New• Recapturing the Old Testament for contemporary Christian growth

Dr. Walter Kaiser previously taught this course in 2008, and his lectures inspired the publication, ‘Recovering The Unity of The Bible: One Continuous Story, Plan and Purpose’ (Zondervan, 2009). Dr. Kaiser is President Emeritus and Distinguished Professor of Old Testament and Ethics at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

A Biblical Approach to Counselling

COUNSELLING

Dr. Richard Winter 7th - 11th July

Returning after a sell-out 2012 course, ‘A Biblical Approach to Counselling’ will examine the relationship between theology, psychology and counselling in order to establish a framework for Christian counselling.

Designed for anyone who would like to develop understanding, discernment and practical application in caring and counselling, the course will explore issues of grief and depression, anger and forgiveness, anxiety and fear, perfectionism, shame and addictions. Theory and practice will be held hand in hand throughout, developing skills in listening, reflecting, paraphrasing, asking good questions and facilitating change.

Dr. Richard Winter is Professor of Practical Theology at Covenant Seminary in St Louis, Missouri. He is the author of ‘Perfecting Ourselves to Death’ (IVP, 2005) and ‘When Life Goes Dark’ (IVP, 2012).

Apologetics in Contemporary Culture

APOLOGETICS

Dr. Ted Turnau 14th - 18th July

The stories, songs and images associated with popular culture shape the collective imagination. As Christians, with our own story to tell, how should we respond to the worldview challenges that arise from popular culture?

Alongside critique and response, there is also a need to develop a distinctively Christian understanding of the imagination and the role of the arts. As a church, we need to be able to speak into this culture in ways that are inviting, challenging, and refreshing. The 2014 Cambridge Summer School of Apologetics is designed for all who want to take on, and think through, these challenges.

Dr. Ted Turnau lectures in Cultural Studies and Religion in Prague, Czech Republic. He is the author of ‘Popologetics: Popular Culture in Christian Perspective’ (P&R, 2012).
